1) What major wars has your nation fought in or contributed to?
2) Has your nation ever had a civil war (in relatively recent history)?
3) What was the biggest crisis for your nation to face in its modern history?

1) There have been two particularly large conflicts that have defined modern Verdant Haven:

The first was a long-running series of on-again, off-again hostilities spread over more than a century, during a period generally referred to by Havenian historians as the Unification Wars. This time period, from around 500-350 years ago, was first was characterized by a number of border conflicts between rival states, which led to unification or subjugation of smaller states into larger ones for mutual defense or advantage - the creation of the Grand Duchies. By the end of this period,with no unclaimed lands left into which to expand, the grand duchies were turning on each other and engaging in all out conflict. The final stage of the Unification Wars began when the Haven dynasty was overthrown by their cadet Tattven branch 347 years ago. Duke Michael V Tattven was an extremely gifted military commander, and over the following decade conquered and pacified the entire rest of the country, leading to its unification and his declaration as Prince Michael I, first prince of a united Verdant Haven.

For the second major conflict, see question 2...

2) The Tattven dynasty of princes held power for almost 300 years, but grew increasingly corrupt and decadent. The final sovereign, Prince Eric IV, was an out-and-out psychotic who suffered from paranoid delusions, and in his madness finally pushed the populace too far, triggering nation-wide uprisings 51 years ago. Though initially the royalist forces were dominant, they were affected negatively both by purges from within and by the defection of increasing numbers of security forces to the rebels. After six years of warfare, the royal family was removed from power and the country fell back into a dozen somewhat distrusting and independently-acting republics - this is called the Free State Period. Politicians all worked for around two years to establish a peaceful and cooperative country, eventually succeeding under the guidance of General Iskandar Viridi, a prominent wartime commander who was elected as first president of the newly established Federated Bailiwicks of Verdant Haven.

3) Certainly the civil war described above would be the biggest crisis - warfare across the entire country, the overthrow of a centuries-old monarchy, a complete overhaul of the way of life, and a new direction for the country. The 43 years that have passed still leave plenty of senior Havenians who grew up suffering under the old system, and who fought for its abolition. The scars of that war and the experiences of those who fought are massive influences on all policy presently found in the bailiwicks.

1) in recent history, Roless defeated Thellione to conquer North Sealia and Eqaers in 1217. Generally, Roless fought in The Wars of Rolessian Expansion (672-814) and the 50-year war (882-934) the latter of which removed all progress made by the former.
2) not in recent history, but there was a small one in 668 and 669.
3) The Atchta forest fire (1236), which burned a large part of the Atchta national park. The park has been completely off limits since, with only a few paths remaining open, which are now heavily supervised by park rangers.

I’m so glad that you are in Forest. I’ve always admired your nation. You’ve got an awesome lore and history, your flag is beautiful, and it’s always cool to get to learn about some new religion or sect, such as the Mazdakites.

Just a question: didn’t you also once say you had some Karaite and Dravidian influences?

Karaites from Yemen and Somalia and the Tuluva Yapaniya Jains from Western Karnataka AND the Safiloan Austronesians (= made up Kibushi-speaking Sakalava Malagasy people). Nation was inspired by both Euhemerus’ account of Pankhaia, Sinbad’s voyages and various other minor myths and legends about the mysteries that hide in the Indian Ocean.

Cretox State wrote:It's the HIV problem. Let's say an author tries to pass a resolution on HIV/AIDS. That would be fine and dandy in real life, but what about NS? How do you know that HIV even exists in NS? How do you know that it's widespread enough to warrant a WA resolution on the matter? What about nations whose populations aren't human? Then what? Rather than attempting to legislate on HIV/AIDS, authors have legislated on infectious diseases or simply healthcare in general.

This is a similar situation. How do you know that 6 weeks is sufficient paid leave? What if a worker's unique situation necessitates greater leave? What if a worker's species has a lifespan that would make 6 weeks an absurd duration of leave? Using concrete numbers in proposals is generally frowned upon because they make little sense in the context of international law with a low word count limit in the NS multiverse. Using flexible language is often simply a necessity. Many WA regulars believe that the particulars of employment law should not be legislated on by the WA at all, the logic being that such resolutions will either be too specific or too ambiguous. I can't say I disagree with them.

This makes sense if we accept the convention that the WA aspect of the game has to accommodate everybody's RP no matter how outlandish it is. I'm not sure why we do accept that, however, and I can't find any basis for it in the rules. HIV is an issue because of the rule on real-life references, not because of species-wank, and it's not at all clear to me that this rule entails multiple species. The basis of NS, and the first thing a player encounters, is the issues game and the issues make it clear that nations are assumed to exist in the modern era and be populated by humans. They talk about relations with Bigtopian immigrants but not with settlers from Tau Ceti, and conflict with Blackacre not the Galactic Trade Federation. The GA legislates on CFCs and carbon emissions without worrying that these laws won't make sense on planets that have a methane atmosphere and no ozone layer. In that spirit I feel the best response to species-wank, and an entirely legal one, it to simply ignore it. Players can do what they like when taking part in RP but it doesn't mean that everyone has to treat it all as canon.

1) Making justice to it's name, MSR rarely - if ever - engages in any sort of warfare. The only exception was the independence war fought during the 1960's, which nearly escalated into a civil war between the two leading factions of the independence movement (the Communist and Serenity parties).
2) Even though the post-independence kerfuffle never escalated into violence, a brief period of civil war was declared during the 1980's, resulting in the partial independence of Gura and Matos. The attrocities commited during this war by the Serene Army shocked the radically pacifist population, and led to deep reforms in the military and in fact nearly abolished it. The military abolition movement is still relatively big today.
3) Honestly, currently, things are going well in MSR. The mostly communist-led government collectivised most private industry in the form of self-managed co-ops, similar to how things were in the 70's and 80's, which jives well with MSR's council-democracy and, so far, has led to economic growth. However, it's unclear if this period of prosperity is a bubble and, if so, when it's gonna burst.

The Bhexian captain was the protagonist of numerous decisive defensive interventions and the final goal. The match between Bunkaiia and Lannistter, on the other hand, was described by the audience as the most beautiful since the start of the Comrades Cup. The 0-0 lasted for 90 minutes, thanks mainly to the great saves of Lannistter's goalkeeper Jan Obølsnen. Bunkaiia scored the first goal at the 90th minute. Desperate for the goal, the Lannistter manager threw 19-year-old forward Branizlav Zuber into the fray. Zuber managed to score less than two minutes after entering the field. At the last breath, however, the Bunkaiian defender Danilo Šàbein, who had suffered a nose injury in the first half, managed to take advantage of a series of rebounds after a corner kick and pierced Obølsnen for the definitive 2-1."

The 2021 DSAFF Comrades Cup, also known as 2021 Comrades Cup or simply Talamia 2021, is the inaugural edition of the Comrades Cup, the first initiative launched by the newly formed football federation of Delusia, the DSAFF (Democratic Socialist Assembly Football Federation). It is scheduled to take place in Talamia from 14 May 2021 to 3 June 2021.

Initially launched as an exclusive tournament for Delusia nations, the tournament has subsequently expanded, becoming an invitation-only event. Sixteen took part to the tournament, coming from five different regions.

History

In February of 2021, Talamia was the only nation to have its own football federation on Delusia: the TSS (Talamia Sports' Summaka), governing a national football team and a Talamia's own domestic league: the Alfa League. The strong cultural football tradition of Talamia pushed Talamian sports' minister Antheo Karabos to propose the formation of a body to govern football at an international level, at that moment absent on the planet.

On 5 February 2021, the DSAFF was born, as can be read in the official statute of the federation:

"[...] with the aim of organizing football tournaments for clubs and national teams, of spreading the interest in association football, of ensuring football is accessible to everyone, and of advocating for integrity and fair play."

Karabos appointed Oiktirmon-Nicao Paidarion president of the newly-born federation. Paidarion had already been president and founder of the Talamian club Afestosja and he is known for his revolutionary approach to sports organization in general.

The very first goal of the federation was to organize a tournament for national teams for the summer of 2021, the Comrades Cup. A first announcement of the organization of the tournament was released on March 30 of the same year. Three countries from Delusia responded positively: Syndic Australia, Bhexa, Tuthar, Nia's Port, Itini and Veyoris. When it became clear that the lack of interest in the first edition would not attract further attendees, Padairon decided to turn the Comrades Cup into an invitation-only competition. The Forest region was initially involved, from which the national teams of Blueea, Chan Island, Kepler-0085, World Wildlife Fund and Arklanda joined the competition. Subsequently, the national teams of New Ordiel Kalibleland (from The Internationale), Bunkaiia (from the Council of Constructed Languages) and Lannistter and Jerno (The Socialist Syndacalist Union) also joined the tournament.

Host nation
As the only founding member of the DSAFF and the first promoter of the tournament, Talamia was chosen as the host nation. The Talamian people welcomed the news with great enthusiasm. In short, the cities that would host the matches were chosen and the starting month was set: May 2021.

Venues
The interest in football in Talamia was such that the stadiums, at the time of the tournament's inauguration, had all been modernized, despite the short timing. TSS selected a total of six stadiums to host the Comrades Cup matches. Many of them were refurbished in recent years and the older ones were modernized for the occasion. The capacity of the venues potentially allow a total of 322,000 spectators to be able to attend a match at the same time. The smallest stadium counts 31,000 seats, the largest 84,000.

The chosen stadium were the following:

  • The Ebdemar Au'tokra Stadium in the capital city Clinepalas - the biggest one, to host both the first and the final match of the Cup;

  • The Pagos Arena in Acroscope - the smallest one, a beautiful structure nestled in the cliff of Scopel; it was renovated thanks to the city modernization process started in 2020 thanks to the DSA Ocean Race;

  • The Dionùso Stadium in Anen - an ancient structure that stands on the ashes of a 5000 year old amphitheater;

  • The Basi Als Arena in Epacra - a field that floats on the water of the city harbor, which has the wonderful skyscrapers of the center as a backdrop (chosen to favor the inclusion of the Chan Island team formed by non-professional pirates);

  • Toxeutà in Fofokoy - home of the latest winner of the Alfa League, Alla Fofokoy;

  • DORU in Geitorisma - a structure built entirely of wood, as a sign of respect for the nearby Forest of Pento.

Qualification

Between the announcement of its creation and May 8th, 2021, the tournament collected fifteen entries, in addition to Talamia, the host nation. The most represented region will be DSA (seven teams), followed by Forest (five teams), the Socialist Syndacalist Union (two teams) and the Council of Constructed Languages and The Internationale (one team each).

Thanks to the number of answers, since there was no need for qualifying matches, the tournament will be organized with a first round, or group stage, in which the sixteen teams will be divided into four groups of four teams. Each group will be a round-robin of three games, where each team will play one match against each of the other teams in the same group. Teams will be awarded three points for a win, one point for a draw and none for a defeat. The teams coming first and second will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Ensem Eio in Clinepalas
at the Comrades Cup draw

Format

For many of the qualified national teams, this was the first official tournament. Being also the first edition of the Comrades Cup, there was no ranking and consequently no seeds system. DSAFF decided that this tournament would kick off an official football ranking system. Therefore, for the first group stage the teams were all randomly drawn. It had been predetermined that, as the host, Talamia would be placed in Group A.

On May the 4th 2021, Padairon announced that the competition would kickoff on Friday May 14th. The 16 teams were divided into three groups of four teams each, within which the teams competed in a round-robin tournament to determine which two of those four teams would advance to the eight-team knock-out stage. In total, 32 games will be played.

The draw was held on 8 May 2021 at 20:30 CEST at the Pro Diorux TV studios of Clinepalas. The teams were drawn by Ensem Eio, top goalscorer of all time of the Talamian national team, as well as coach of the reigning champions of the Alfa League, Alla Fofokoy.

On the same occasion, the full schedule was announced by DSAFF. Talamia was placed in position A1 in the group stage and played in the opening match at the Ebdemar Au'tokra Stadium in Clinepalas on 14 May against Chan Island.

Ranking criteria
If teams will level on points, they will be ranked on the following criteria in order:

  • Most points earned in matches against other teams in the tie

  • Greatest goal difference in matches against other teams in the tie

  • Greatest number of goals scored in matches against other teams in the tie

  • If teams will remain level after those criteria, a mini-group would be formed from those teams, who will be ranked on:

    • Greatest total goal difference in the three group matches

    • Greatest number of goals scored in the three group matches

    If teams will remain level after all these criteria, NAFF will hold a drawing of lots.

Group A

The first matchday of group A kicked off the competition and saw the hosts of Talamia drawing against Chan Island 1-1, and the Itinian national football team winning 3-1 against Kepler-0085. After the opening ceremony, Talamia's forward Lignus Fonè scored the very first goal in the history of the Comrades Cup at the 43' of the first half. The nervousness caused by the unorthodox behaviors of the drunken Chan Island players, however, allowed the parrot Craw to score an incredible equalizer just a stone's throw from the end. Thanks to a save on the line in injury time, the parrot was even elected Man of the Match, giving his team a sensational draw that no one would have believed before the match. On the evening of May 14, however, Itini annihilated Kepler-0085 by winning 3-1 thanks to the great performance of Kimpton Castin, who scored the first double in the history of the Comrades Cup. In the same match the first penalty of the cup was also whistled. (wrong by Keplerian player Oslin Mezinin). The end of the game was marked by the bad performance of the Keplerian defender Gestil Ïlmo and his fight with the coach Ward Olinaw.

Group B

In the first matchday of Group B, Arklanda and Nia's port drew 2-2. The Nia's port national team recovered the disadvantage twice, while Arklanda's striker Rahmi Chafi wasted an easy game-winning chance at the last minute. In the evening game, Veyoris won by comeback against the World Wildlife Fund. The talented Veyorian midfielder Matías Laguna suffered a bad injury in the second half, which forced him off the pitch. The foul committed on him, however, allowed Veyoris to earn a penalty, scored by the midfielder Ernest Duchamp.

Desperate for the goal, the Lannistter manager threw 19-year-old forward Branizlav Zuber into the fray. Zuber managed to score less than two minutes after entering the field. At the last breath, however, the Bunkaiian defender Danilo Šàbein, who had suffered a nose injury in the first half, managed to take advantage of a series of rebounds after a corner kick and pierced Obølsnen for the definitive 2-1.

Middle Barael wrote:Lore Question of the Week
1) What major wars has your nation fought in or contributed to?
2) Has your nation ever had a civil war (in relatively recent history)?
3) What was the biggest crisis for your nation to face in its modern history?

1) Gandenia has fought in two major wars, WW1 and WW2. During WW1 in 1916, a German U-boat and a battle ship accidentally sailed into the waters of Gandenia with a few planes following the two boats. A small battle was fought on the coast between theGandenia National Army and the German army in the Gandenian city of Vistain and in the mountains surrounding the city. During World War Two, in 1943 a very similar occurrence happened when two troop transport ships, a tank transport ship, a battleship, and an aircraft carrier sailed into Gandenian waters near the Gandenian port of Costachen. The Gandenian National Army immediately responded with two thousand troops marching to the front lines. A large battle, the Battle of Costachen was fought. It resulted in the German capture of Costachen, until it was liberated in 1945 in the second battle of Costachen.

2) In 1970, Mohammed Al-Artza came to power. Over the next few years, he gradually became more authoritarian, autocratic, and nationalist, until it became safe to say that he was a dictator. In 1975, the north of Gandenia seceded from the south and with that came a two month war, the first Gandenian Civil War. It was not that long, but the war was bloody and very important historically-speaking. Over the next 50 or so years, South Alta (the southern part of Gandenia ruled by Al-Artza) was constantly firing mortars over hills and mountains towards North Alta, along with small clashes and skirmishes, such as the constant tit-for-tat along the border in the 1990s. In 2010, South Alta invaded the north and within a year, Gandenia was reunited under the Al-Artza regime. North Alta’s government went into exile in Middle Barael. However, rebel groups began to pop up in both the north and south of the country, resizing Al-
Artza’s authoritarian rule and conquests. Middle Barael provided recognition, logistic also support, economic aid, diplomatic help, and training to the rebels. In 2012, the major rebel groups in the south united to form the South Altman Resistance. The General of the SAR was Nonta Ytbaum (who later became the Sovereign). The SAR continued to wage war against the Al-Artza regime in the Second Gandenian Civil War. In March 2020, the South Altman Resistance and the North Altan Government-in-Exile officially merged, to create the Free Gandenian Army. Finally, on May 2nd, 2020, the Free Gandenian Army captured Al-Artza, and he was executed soon after, along with his major commanders. The Free Gandenian Army founded the Commonwealth of Gandenia, led by General Nonta Ytbaum. Still today, small terror groups who were part of Al-Artza’s army, fight against Gandenia. In March, Gandenia liberated the last populated city from the rule of the Al-Artzan holdouts. The remains of Al-Artza’s army now only control some areas in the wilderness. On May 16th, 2021, Sovereign Ytbaum declared a National Peace and ended the martial law, although there is still a large amount of military resends in some areas.

3) The biggest crisis Gandenia has ever faced was for sure the Gandenian Civil War, as it lasted for 45 years. Technically, there were two civil wars, although the Gandenian Conflict includes the First and Second war and the border skirmishes between both wars. For years, soldiers fought, tanks drove, shots were fired, blood was shed, rockets were fired, buildings collapsed, and even now the scars can be felt

1. There are smalls wars happened in Myordas during the Hundred Kingdoms Period but the major one is the Myordan-British Wars, a war that change Myordan history and loss from it. The war was between 50,000 British grenadiers vs. ~200,000 Myordan Hazaborany (Irregular Units, similar to rebels) across ~250 kingdoms. There is lot to cover but to grossly oversimplify, British killed most of the Myordan forces due to British strategies and guns plus they captured them and forced to capitulate the other kingdoms. Also, Myordans during that time only uses spears and trebuchets.

2. Luckily none.

3. Sea Water Levels, Myordas is mostly flat, as flat as Denmark but Myordan government have plans to survive water levels such as constructing floating cities and walling coasts.
