What is a common stereotype about people from your country? Like how people think British people always drink tea.

Hospe wrote:What is a common stereotype about people from your country? Like how people think British people always drink tea.

There are a number of stereotypes associated with people from Nagakawa.

- "Nagakawans are short" - this stereotype is true, as the average male height for Nagakawan adults is 171cm, while the average female height is 161cm, both of which are slightly below the world and regional average.

- "Nagakawans have bad teeth" - it is not known where this stereotype emerged. However, former Prime Minister Seiji Itō, who was Prime Minister from 1999 to 2008, had famously crooked and tobacco-stained teeth which were often parodied in political cartoons, while the main supporting actor in the long-running sitcom Knives on a Thursday Evening, Yasutaka Amamiya, had a prominent underbite. It is likely that these may have contributed to foreign perceptions about Nagakawans' occlusion and dental health.

Incidentally, the Nagakawa Dental Association has noted a decline in the amount of money spent by Nagakawans on dental services from 2017 to 2020. While this may not necessarily indicate anything, the Nagakawa Dental Association would like to remind everyone that oral hygiene and regular dental appointments are important to overall health.

- "Nagakawans like to fight" - this is arguably true, as Nagakawa's national sport is judo, and an estimated 15 million Nagakawans actively practice judo or have practiced judo at some point in their lives, according to the Nagakawa Judo Federation. It is taught as part of the physical education curriculum in many schools across the country, and the breaking-fall component, ukemi, is sometimes taught to elderly people at care homes to prevent fall injuries.

In addition, MMA is extremely popular, and draws the highest TV ratings and viewership of any sport. Nagakawa has three large MMA promotions: Musha Legends, Ronin FC, and Scramble MMA. Together, these three promotions draw almost 32 million viewers a year.

Hospe wrote:What is a common stereotype about people from your country? Like how people think British people always drink tea.

The biggest stereotype of Hospeans is that they are jingoistic. This is true to some degree, a lot of Hospeans have an absurd amount of national pride, this is mostly because there are compulsory civic education courses throughout all stages of education and most of the media tends to be super patriotic(the government don't have a hand in this*wink*). Anyway some Hospeans are always going on about how life in Hospe is better than anywhere else but this is because a lot of them actually believe it.

It is also a common conception that Hospeans are cold. There is also some truth in this but this is because showing excessive emotion is frowned upon by most Hospean cultures and telling a stranger personal information like where you live is seen as taboo.

Hospe wrote:What is a common stereotype about people from your country? Like how people think British people always drink tea.

The Department of Social Concern asked Octonovites what stereotypes they know about themselves. These are a few examples:

"Octonovites are heavy drinkers".

"Octonovites are very affectionate.".

MMA: Musha Legends 176 to air in more countries than ever

Nagakawan MMA promotion Musha Legends' 176th season, its biggest event ever, is set to be aired in over 60 countries, including Hospe, France Europe, The Union of Costa Rica, and many others. Scheduled for 10 May 2021, Musha Legends 176 is projected to be the largest sports event in Nagakawa's history.

"It's all very exciting", said Shigeru Yamazaki, President of Musha Legends, speaking to various international media at a press conference. "We're happy that Musha Legends will now be available to a larger audience than ever before, and that our amazing fighters can get the recognition they deserve."

Musha Legends 176 features a total of seven fights, with its main card comprising the long-awaited battle for the Lightweight title that sees undefeated jiu jitsu fighter Alfric "The Eel" Kurachi (24-0) challenge the wrestling master and reigning LW champion Ben "Hospean Matador" Townley (28-5) for the LW belt, as well as an epic clash in the open weight division between kurash champion and submission artist Zeke "Raven" Lee (18-1) and veteran ground-fighting specialist Naruhiko "Animal Wrangler" Akagi (34-12). The main card also features the MMA debut of the Kyokushin pioneer Michiko Shirazu, who will be facing off against Cethleann Ní Tuathail (15-4) in the Women's Middleweight division.

"We hope that our foreign viewers will enjoy this event that our fighters have been working so hard for", said Mr Yamazaki.

LGBT: Parliament to hear debate on marriage definition change on 28 May
Prime Minister Hideyoshi Kaburagi has announced that the Republican Party will be opening a debate on the definition of marriage in the constitution on 28 May 2021, in a major step forward for LGBT equality.

“The time has come for us to put this matter to rest once and for all”, said the Prime Minister, speaking to reporters outside Parliament. “It is not enough that we stop discrimination- we must also fight to ensure that all citizens are equal, and that includes in marriage.”

At present, because the Constitution defines ‘marriage’ as ‘a union between man and woman’, same-sex marriage is technically still not recognised in Nagakawa, although gay couples may enter civil unions which carry the same legal benefits as marriage. The constitutional amendment proposed by the Republican Party would change the wording to ‘a union between consenting adults’, thus recognising same-sex unions as legal marriages, and also further clarifying the age at which one may legally enter a marriage (i.e. 21, or legal adulthood).

Nobody Cares: Asuka Iruka’s new album breaks chart record
Nobody Cares, the 8th studio album by glam rock singer-songwriter Asuka Iruka, has topped the Nagakawa Records Chart for 89 consecutive days, breaking the record formerly held by punk rock group F#KKU’s 13th studio album Swing Both Ways (2006). Previously, Swing Both Ways had been No. 1 on the NRC for 88 consecutive days, before dropping to second place upon the release of boy group Jumping Jack’s Tell Me to Go Home (2006).

33-year-old Asuka Iruka, whose real name is Asuka Hiranuma, is known for her elaborate instrumentation and her distinctively boyish and vulnerable vocal quality, as well as her use of a violin bow on acoustic guitars to produce a unique sound. She does not reveal her face to the public, and always appears in public wearing a kitsune mask that covers her whole face, along with traditional kimono. Her fifth album, Yamata no Orochi (2011), became the first album by a solo female artist to remain on the NRC’s top spot for more than a month, having remained No. 1 for 47 days total.

“What Asuka has achieved is phenomenal”, said Miyuki Yamamoto, the drummer of F#KKU, who goes by the stage name ‘Dirty B!tch’. “I hope all the girls who listen to her music see this and know that they can achieve anything.”

Nobody Cares is Asuka Iruka’s shortest album to date, comprising only 6 songs and with a length of 36 minutes. It is a concept album detailing the story of a nameless and masterless female assassin on a revenge mission against her master who had betrayed her and left her for dead.

Question of the day: What is the most prestigious university in your country?

Octonovem wrote:Question of the day: What is the most prestigious university in your country?

The RIN group of universities, also referred to as the Big Three, are generally considered to be the top universities in terms of research output, graduate employment rate, and historical reputation. The acronym “RIN” stands for:

  • The University of Rushima (柳島大学 Rushima daigaku) located in Tōdō City in Rushima Prefecture. Specialising in economics as well as political and social sciences, the University of Rushima’s alumni includes Prime Minister Hideyoshi Kaburagi, CEO of Kimura Motor Works Nanako Sugata, and novelist Yūji Akiyama.

  • The Imperial Institute of Science and Technology (帝国工科学院 Teikoku kōka gakuin), located in the Inada capital area. Originally established as an institution for the education of the nobility, the Imperial Institute has, since 1973, accepted commoner students. Notably, it is the default school of choice for members of the Imperial Family; other notable alumni include Defence Minister Iehisa Morita, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Hideki Motobu, and theoretical physicist Tsubasa Uchishige.

  • The Nichirin Academy of Medicine (日輪医科大学 Nichirin ika daigaku), located in Yurihara City in Gobōda Prefecture. While considered to be the top medical university in the nation, Nichirin, which was founded in 1521, also holds the distinction of being the oldest active university. Notable alumni include oncologist Akira Uemura, statistician Yosaku Nagano, former Health Minister Sadayuki Muranaka (2012 - 2013), and chief Imperial physician Tetsurō Minamoto.

Octonovem wrote:Question of the day: What is the most prestigious university in your country?

We don't really have an Ivy league, but the "big four" universities in terms of quality, reputation and successful alumni are:
• Mirus Institute of Science and Technology(MIST)
• Arundel University, Azura.
• Prince University, Freeland.
• Azura State University(ASU)
