The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 3.035 billion Hesterverians are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The large, corrupt, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Administration. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Burgerville. The average income tax rate is 71.9%, and even higher for the wealthy.

Hesterverian military drills look more like joint-Starlight exercises than anything else, Hesterveria isn't what it used to be, Hesterveria's children are widely acknowledged as the most foul-mouthed in the region, and weather forecasts are accurate but nobody has the bandwidth to view them. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Hesterveria's national animal is the Hamburglar, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its national religion is Burgerism.
