The Empire of Chair Co is a huge, orderly nation, renowned for its rum-swilling pirates, multi-spousal wedding ceremonies, and vat-grown people. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical, humorless population of 489 million Charians are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

The relatively small, corrupt, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Industry, Defense, and Law & Order. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Thronestown. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 22.8%.

The frighteningly efficient Chairdaic economy, worth 58.8 trillion Corporate Credits a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Retail industry, with major contributions from Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Uranium Mining. Black market activity is frequent. Average income is an impressive 120,225 Corporate Credits, but there is a large disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 525,691 per year while the poor average 17,345, a ratio of 30.3 to 1.

Personal injury lawyers are demanding compensation from the government after recent reductions in manufacturer liability, military parades quietly tiptoe their way through the streets, the news of budget cuts leaves a sour taste in Chairdaic mouths, and the homeless more often beg for mercy than money. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Chair Co's national animal is the Chair Horned Moose, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

Chair Co is ranked 255,540th in the world and 530th in 10000 Islands for Most Primitive, scoring -170.89 on the Scary Big Number Scale.
