What is "North Korea" on Nationstates?

North Korea (or NK as many of us call it) is a reality based region of political philosophy, current events, geopolitical news and gameplay military strategy. Politically this is a "revolutionary communist" or "Marxist-Leninist" region and we adhere to the revolutionary teachings of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, V.I.Lenin, J.V.Stalin, Kim Il-sung, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Mao Tse-tung, Ho Chi Min and Thomas Sankara just to name a few. The region is also heavily involved in real life activism from Black Lives Matter to Idle No More, and many of the people here are members of their local real life communist movement. North Korea has an active military in the 'Korean Peoples Army' which plays a role on the world stage joining leftist militant action on Nationstates.

Does this region support the real life North Korea (DPRK) ?

Yes, and no. North Korea on Nationstates is inhabited by 'comrades' from all over the world and while we support the DPRK in terms of anti-colonialism, anti-imperialism, the right to self determination and socialist construction, some of us may have contructive criticisms of the DPRK. We are however unanimous in upholding its right to exist and to oppose western imperialist strangulation. It is also a general belief here that the western capitalist press paints a dark picture of the DPRK with many politically motived misdirections and mistruths, generally with very poor source material.

Why would I want to join NK?

North Korea offers an experience unlike any other on Nationstates, upon entering NK the first thing you will notice is socialist imagery heavily inspired by the DPRK and other 20th century socialist states, you will meet comrades with whom to discuss history and news, politics and political activism with and an entry into military gameplay if you're interested.

What is an "Armed Citizen"?

These are the 'regional officers' in our region, they are appointed by the Korean Peoples Army leadership and steer the direction of our region. Among the Armed Citizens you will find the most actively participating nations in the region, as well as the most politically knowledgable and trustworthy. In our region the founder nation is simply a tool for the Armed Citizens to use to guide the region. The Armed citizens work under democratic centralism and consensus, as well as using the democratic voice of the region at large. To become a regional leader in North Korea is to understand revolutionary socialism on at least a basic level and show an ambition to lead and be active in the game!

How do I join the Korean Peoples Army and who is our enemy?

The Korean Peoples Army (or KPA as we call it) is the armed wing of the region. It is made up of comrades from North Korea who have an interest in military gameplay. To join the KPA you must be an active resident in North Korea, have a basic understanding of revolutionary socialism, have a WA nation and be active once a day. You may request membership from the General of the Korean Peoples Army Zulanka.

Enemy regions include those that spew anti-communist and imperialist, colonial rhetoric. Regions embracing capitalism, fascism, Western chauvanism and racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, Sinophobia and Islamophobia have been targetted in the past. Regions such as Nazi Europe were crushed by the joint effort of the KPA and other Nationstates leftist forces.

Antiquity - The dawn of Nationstates (2002-2008)

Predates my time and knowledge on Nationstates. No trusted nations exist that can give me a solid definition of North Korea's history at this time. It is not foggy but completely unknown. Archive sites show it did exist but was never a region of size or notability, sometimes being conquered by barbarians at others a colony of USSR.

The benevolent dictatorship - Under the rule of comrade Kim Yong Il (2009-2011)

Under the rule of comrade Kim yong il the seriousness of the region was established, this was the first North Korea as we know it. North Korea had links to the Korean Central News Agency in the WFE for example, links to the national anthem on Youtube were also included in the WFE.

There was no democracy in the region at this time, there were only two WA delegates for the region in this four year period and they lasted less than ten days each.

The Sovereign Socialist States became involved with North Korea at this time, the two founders worked together on educational projects for spreading socialist discussion on Nationstates. When Kim Yong Il ceased to exist the S.S.S. sent their WAD Marxist-feminists (V Ming) over to keep the region safe.

The occupation - Inter-regional left forces and leadership (2011)

Marxist-Feminists and S.S.S. troops were met by The Red Fleet in North Korea who also had an interest in keeping the region safe from fascists and right wing forces.

North Korea is effectively saved by the cooperation of these organizations (under the umbrella of Antifa) combined efforts and then handed over to the S.S.S. for future purposes. During this operation comrade Drex of TRF CTE's.

Trouble begins as one of the natives East Pyongyang, opposes the change of power but the vaccuum left without the founder and a functioning community leaves the rest of the natives backing Marxist-feminists in her attempts to refound the region and forge a safe future. Driven by the desperation to keep the region in communist hands refounding is waited on for four months

The dark times - Reactionary rebirth (2011-2012)

With Marxist-Feminists as the delegate she goes to refound the region and is beaten to it by another nation, THE DEFENDER ALLIANCE. The Defender Alliance was a Falangist nation, a right wing and reactionary, enemy player in the game. The enemy held the region from early to mid 2012. Marxist-Feminists and the communists that joined her found refuge in Revolutionary North Korea until North Korea once again came under communist control. Pyongyang is founded around this time.

The second dictatorship - Under the rule of comrade Marxist-Feminists (2012-2013)

The Defender Alliance gave North Korea and the nation "The Defender Alliance" over to Marxist-Feminists (V Ming) after realizing the wrongness of their ways and the backstabbing of their right wing cohorts. The efforts of the communists to keep an active community and not let this setback hurt their morale proved to be the undoing of the enemy's hold, with a respect for our tenacity and undying spirit the region is returned.

Comrade Marxist-Feminists, fearful for the future of the region holds onto it tight, the region is locked and only the rebels and resistance fighters from the old North Korea are welcome, comrade Rodong is essentially left in charge. Marxist-Feminists leaves North Korea to form the CPNS (The Communist Party of Nationstates) as the nation "Rebel youth" and North Korea sits idle with 7 nations for the last of 2012 and early 2013

A constitution is formed during this period as well as the Korean Peoples Army is organized in August 2012.

The era of growth and revolutionary democracy - Regional elections and an opening up of the region (2013-2014)

The password lock comes off and North Korea is open after almost a year, V Ming leaves The Communist Party of Nationstates and hands over the nation "Rebel youth" to her comrades in the CPNS, returning to North Korea as Marxist-feminists once again.

A revised constitution is formed and regional elections begin. The Korean Peoples Army blooms with four full time fighters, two reserves and North Korea grows exponentially from 7 to 20 nations. Tight regional ties are formed with Communist China and The Communist Party of Nationstates, as well as with The Internationale.

There were 9 regional elections during this one year period, 7 of them won by Marxist-Feminists.

The paper "The New Way Forward" is written which outlined North Korea's inter-regional foreign relations. The central tenet of the document being a forever war not only against fascism but against all right wing and reactionary forces on Nationstates including imposters and opportunists, Monarchists, liberal bourgeois imperialists and anti-communist elements in general.

The limited retirement of Marxist-Feminists to the founder position (Choosing to do so to relieve herself from political power and organizing and convert to simple regional defense as founder) required a change in how the region was governed. In the face of this, North Korea democratically reformed the constitution to remove the coveted WAD seat from a single nation and replace it with a central committee - a joint leadership for the most active and politically advanced comrades of North Korea to discern the region's direction, organize its agenda and military in a cooperative fashion.

The first central committees and the world stage - The rise of the KPA as a powerful force (2014)

Comrade Chaego distinguishes himself as the region's longest serving single democratic WAD 62 days (after Marxist-Feminists' 90 days) and as a part of the regional Central Committee twice. A new "Four month plan" is established by the region where an elected CC will rule for four months and have definite objectives.

Under the new leadership of General Comradeland the Korean Peoples Army continues to burn as a bright and cohesive unit capturing a hundred enemy regions and on the ground in several successful fighting missions - most notably as part of the inter-regional effort to shut down Nazi Europe and a large inter-regional operation led by North Korea to shut down the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

In numbers the KPA reaches 11 volunteer WA comrades and North Korea distinguishes itself on the world stage of NS by being one of the most militant and political regions on the left of Nationstates.

An assault is made on Benevolent Capitalism essentially ruining the founder's trust there in anybody and shutting the region down. KPA forces occupy the WAD seat twice in 72 hours (to the horror of REATO, Libertatem and the founder there.)

It is the capture of Slavya which catches world attention though, as openly fascist and homophobic elements from Slavija align with forces in Libertatem to craft WA condemnation SC 158.

This is later repealed with 74% of the Nationstates World Assembly backing North Korea in a repeal, seeing the original WA condemnation as politically motivated and hypocritical as well as conflating the real life DPRK as North Korea

Promising beginnings of a new year - regional growth and military cooperation (2014-2015)

In early 2015 the Korean Peoples Army restructures and many of the nations occupying military victories are replaced with more numerical placeholder nations - the former placeholders are moved to North Korea and it grows from 100 nations to 125. New nations too have flocked to North Korea as it posits itself on the world stage and regional population continues to grow to reach 150 nations in mid February 2015.

The heavy fighting of the KPA under the most recent central committee has brought us once again into cooperation with the newly reformed and evolved old organization of "The Red Fleet". Through December 2014 to the end of February 2015 inter-regional history is made with uncountable strikes against the right wing reactionaries and fascist collaborators of Nationstates.

North Korea takes over administrative control of dozens of regions notably Communist China once a budding fraternal region attacked by the political right and saved by the KPA and inter-regional leftist forces.

New educational links are added to the WFE including the DPRK's official website, "My Socialist Country" a documentary made in the DPRK, and an article titled "Korea resilient! Socialism in the DPRK" which dispels left communist criticism's of the DPRK and debunks western propaganda.

During this period of early 2015 many public troubles are caused by an ultra-left few in The Internationale who migrate to Libcom eventually fighting themselves into a corner. These few have been a thorn in the side of North Korea's relations with The Internationale for a long time and their demise from that region went on to further the cooperation between The Internationale and North Korea.

The capture of Right Wing Uprising during a refound is a huge success for the Korean Peoples Army as it establishes itself as the fighting vanguard of the Nationstates left. The KPA, though younger as an organization than the most respected comrades in The Red Fleet, is (in this period of history) more tenacious and driven on the world stage than any other leftist fighting force.

As 2015 comes to a close so does the most fierce fighting and 2016 ushers in an age of growth for North Korea, comrade General Godless munky, after 6 months of leadership steps back the KPA in favor of recruitment efforts. A regional recruitment telegram is developed and program established, North Korea breaks historical regional records of over 200 nations, more than 20 actively participating in polls and rmb discussion.

Marxist-feminists takes leave from the region on account of late real life pregnancy and limited availability, she remains partially active with the founder, "The Defender Alliance" but is no longer in a leadership position. The new "Peoples Democratic Dictatorship" is established wiping out the old form of government, the CC, then the CC returns in her absence.

Hard times and contractions - Traitors, limited activity and resting on our laurels (2016)

2016 was a difficult year for North Korea which went through serious changes. The loss of Marxist-feminists's leadership (having a child) left a power vacuum that was never properly filled, the traitor Sciecia worked it's way into NK's inner circle and stabbed us in the back. The leaving of valuable comrades such as Communal Earth and Kim yong il and the fallout with the politically astray USSD are some of the events that marked this as a difficult year in North Korea's history.

Marxist-feminists returns to lead the region in early December, the "Peoples Democratic Dictatorship" is re-established after a short return of the Central Committee through her 8 month absence and the region ends the year on a quiet note. Several comrades leave to found the Revolutionary Socialist League, the KPA is active and successful under General Zulanka in NK however only half the size of what it was a year ago.

The North Koreans enter 2017 cautiously but with purpose, the real life presidency of the reactionary Donald Trump in the United States of America and the rise of the political "alt-right" and right wing movements around the world demand revolutionary action now more than ever. Solidarity, inter-nationalism and anti-fascism are the only way to beat the politics of reaction, hate and fear - and North Korea is lucky to hold those very keys in the Marxist-Leninist ideology.

Trained by Proletaurus, the original founder of Antifa, Marxist-feminists took up arms at a time when Neo-Nazis were very active on NS. With the majority of the left on NS being either Trots or role players, divisions and sectarianism ran rife; the KPA was slandered as a "Stalinist gang" and initially unwelcome among The Red Fleet (TRF), International Socialists, Democratic Socialist Assembly and The Internationale (TI). The rise of the KPA and its smaller allies such as Communist China and First Nations saw the establishment of Marxism-Leninism as a formidable force on NS in antifascist work; the early respect the KPA gained was fought incredibly hard for. In late 2013 La passionaria, the original founder of TI, was deleted in an example of extreme moderator overreach. Taking a step to move past old grievances, the KPA was deployed in defense of TI, beginning the process of reconciliation between the KPA and the NSLeft. After a long year and 100 days of service, Marxist-feminists retired as the first General. Recorded from her time serving are approximately 26 victories, some done in tandem with TRF, The MT Army, and assorted other leftist/antifascist forces.

In March 2014 Comradeland arrived from the Juche Union and began working alongside Marxist-feminists in the KPA. His dedication and prowess quickly lead to his appointment as the KPA's second General in June 2014. It is under his command that the KPA earns its sitewide reputation. General Comradeland oversaw no less than an astonishing 352 recorded victories in 1 year and 40 days, with hundreds of regions seized from Nationalsozialistische Volksstaaten as well. Spurred into action by Libertatem's capture of the Congress of Armed Proletarian States, this was the beginning of the KPA's struggle against Libertatem and their military front, REATO. This era also saw the KPA participating in the destruction of Nazi Europe, the defense of Anne Frank, the seizure of the Right Wing Uprising, and most notably North Korea being condemned by the World Assembly for the KPA's attacks on so-called "free speech" through the capture of Slavya.

In August 2015 Comradeland retired to the position of Field Marshall and Godless munky became the KPA's third General. Under General Godless munky the KPA grew to its largest size so far and the groundwork for closer cooperation with others was laid through his establishment of the Korean Peoples Navy (KPN), the KPA's update-ready wing in TRF (currently on hiatus). While unfortunately record-keeping around this time is incomplete, the destruction of The Greater German Reich, the continued victories against and occupation of Libertatem, and thorough trouncing of Libertatem's short-lived offspring, anticom, will frame the legacy of this excellent General.

In June 2016 General Godless munky retired to the position of Vice-Marshal and Zulanka was elected by the rest of the KPA leadership as the fourth and current General of the KPA. Under the command of General Zulanka the KPA has seen a further integration with TRF and The MT Army. The terrible sectarian divisions on the left that once plagued the landscape around the founding of the KPA are now long gone. Though record-keeping has continued to be incomplete, this era has seen the KPA's participation in the destruction of The URAP and The NSIA, the Union of the Fascist Nations, and The Fascist State among numerous other operations.
