It's a fun puppet of mine :) Figured it was appropriate here, given my nation name.

All of those shows are middle of the road cop dramas. Honestly, they're ten a penny. The other choice here is the myriad of crap dramas set in hospitals or schools, yawn. Adam Curtis, whose documentaries I would commend to anyone, is one of the few people working in TV who actively questions why the world is the way it is. That's the main problem with modern TV. Shut up and consume you silly plebs, don't think, whatever you do.

*yawns* A Panther by another name.

I really enjoy QI, Quite Interesting, especially when Steven Fry hosted it.

I mean, yes, you are correct. Procedurals are, well, rather procedural... But those shows I mentioned are pretty quality storytelling, which is why I brought them up. It's good writing, insightful and interesting characters, set in stories that make you think. The landscape is a bit more optimistic than just being polluted by reality shows. And you can't watch educational documentaries all of the time...sometimes you need to turn your brain off with some comfort television :P

I'll look into that Adam Curtis fella, though. Hadn't heard the name before.

A panther by any other name would taste as tart.

I love Stephen Fry. I might even go so far as to say I adore the man. But I didn't ever see him on the game show. But he's great in just about everything he touches, so I'm sure your appraisal is correct.

I will recommend his work in podcasting, if that's a medium you're interested in.
"Seven Deadly Sins" is a delightful romp through the human condition, but through the lens of our "sinful" nature. It's all highly irreverent and surprisingly personal.
"Great Leap Years" is a look at some of the major turning points of human history, when things "leapt" forward in terms of technology and progress. So there's an episode on the beginnings of railroads, for instance, or computing power. Being a history buff, this was pretty choice for me.
"Stephen Fry's Podgrams" are a kind of collection of his writings and thoughts from all sorts of avenues. Anecdotes, lectures, musings. He's a very good storyteller.
And, of course, I would be remiss if I did not mention his excellent narration of the entire "Harry Potter" series for the audiobooks :)

The bodensee is coming on as a Regional Officer, taking up the mantle of "Court Jester," a role I recently abdicated. Recognizing the need for such a position in our esteemed Kangaroo Court, they have stepped up to perform this necessary duty.

I hope, like the Shakespearean Fools before, they may whisper the harsh truths to me that the rest of the court have become too fearful to do (having been cowed by my oppressive regime into accustomed silence). May this Fool's spirit never be broken by my Iron Sceptre.

I love trees. My grandfather was a forester and I live in the North East. I love trees very much so I wanted to see what ones you guys like :))

Oh, that's a quite thorough poll (though there will inevitably be those who lament omissions). Forest, appropriately enough, had a similar poll awhile back, and I greatly enjoyed to hear people relay stories of their favorite trees -- whether that meant their favorite species of tree, or just their favorite individual trees they've known in their lives.

I believe my favorite tree is the birch. We had a small stand of them in our yard growing up, and I always found them fascinating. The color, the way the bark peeled away...and you can derive birch syrup and birch beer from them. Not entirely sure which species of birch they were, but I'd guess paper birch based off appearance and region.

They also look absolutely stunning if you come across a whole forest of them:

And please just take a moment to admire this breathtaking photo, which I can only assume is from a fairy forest:

I am fortunate enough to live in the "Flower City", and the sheer amount of flowering trees is just beautiful. Unfortunately they bloom around the time of the Lilac festival so you can't just appreciate them in solitude. Red maples are a close second for me.

I don't have a favourite tree, as such.... but I just love greens (whether they be trees or vegetables). 😍

I didn't know Rochester had that name. I looked up pictures, and it is quite pretty.

I don't live somewhere that could be called a "flower city," but Philadelphia has lots of Cherry Blossoms -- I believe for the same reason that D.C. does, donated by the Japanese government way back when.

I put together a little album of the city when the trees are in bloom (obviously, these photos are taken rather artfully, and the city doesn't always look like this):

Yeah, agreed. Although I live in a dense urban environment, in an apartment with no yard, I really love having plants inside. I don't know much about caring for plants, but I did a bit of research on the easiest to care for, and for a number of years now I've kept alive something called a "Pothos" that kind of vines out all over the place and I've got it stretched out all over my kitchen. Quite nice.

That's fine for a rose, but we're speaking of a gamey smelling Panther here.

Oh, you know...same ole, same ole. Wife and kids won't give me a break, boss riding me hard, and the kraken showed up again to threaten all of our maritime shipping lines. After a lengthy sea battle, where we lost half our fleet to davy jones' locker, we managed to chase the beast off and began to regroup from our losses and recover our dead...and what do we see coming in on the horizon? The frickin' Leviathan, that's what! Ain't that just the way it is? One problem quashed, only to have the next pop right up after... 'course, I get home at the end of the day, and the ole lady drops a pipe wrench in my hand and tells me the toilet's broke. Figures...

Sounds horrible. My toilet is also always broken and I have to fix it quite a bit. Hope it’s alright now.
