The plundering capitalists are crying
Worker, do you not hear it?
The victims of the Kraken are are shrieking
Worker, do you not hear it?
They cry from their joy of tyranny
Their hunger for power, you can clearly see
These actions are simply very sick
They’re against you and the South Pacific!

Workers and peasants, form your battalions
Fight for equality now!
Let’s clean up the mess left by the corrupt tyrants
The red star will radiate now!
If we shall complete the revolution
And ensure equality for all
Rise up from your slumber and please meditate on
Voting for LC Melicorium!

Seriously...
I am Stan Melix, Chairperson of the United Socialist States of America Melicorium, and I am campaigning for a position in the Union of Southern Socialist Republics South Pacific Local Soviet Council (LC).

About Me
-I first joined NationStates back in June 2016 as Melicoria. However, I was not very active on that nation, so I let it CTE.
-I created my main nation, Melicorium, in February 2020.
-Despite my nation age, I have become an active member of the TSP community, posting on both the RMB and Discord.
-I like to participate in discussions, and sometimes might even start one myself.
-I also like to do roleplay. It’s just... fun.
-This probably won’t matter to you, but some of Melicorium’s political attributes include being democratic socialist, leftist, egalitarian, libertarian, environmentalist, anti-capitalist, anti-fascist, and anti-imperialist.
-I may or may not be a mourning dove.

What I Will Do
-During the past LC term, I have gotten to know the Regional Message Board (RMB) rules and etiquette well. My friend Proctethia, who was one of the previous Local Soviet Members Councillors, has done a great job moderating the RMB and suppressing posts as such. I will maintain this good practice in order to keep the RMB clean and healthy.
-Another thing Proctethia has done is send out friendly greetings to new nations. I have sometimes assisted him in doing so, and I plan on continuing to greet new nations.
-I will continue to be an active member of the RMB and Discord, promoting and engaging in friendly discussion and roleplay.
-I am sick and tired of Auphelia’s horrendous, self-centric, and egotistic polls. If Auphelia gets elected as an LC (which she definitely will), I promise to beat her to poll-making to make polls that will actually let the NationStates community know more about each other. Even if Auphelia is not elected, I will still make better polls than her.
-I will protect innocent nations from imperialist tyrants — even if it has to be by force.
-I will burn the cans and bottles of every ripoff of South Pacific Iced Tea (SPIT). Looking at you, Briteannia...

-Basically, I will make The South Pacific a more fun and welcoming place.

What I Agree With My Opponents On
-Rules XIV and XV (ban on one-word posts and roleplay without dialogue), and possibly the revision of Rule V (ban on double instead of triple posting), have served their purpose of curbing spam on the RMB, and that players should be allowed to do all of the aforementioned things again, so that there can be more freedom of posting on the RMB.
-Auphelia, however, is against legalizing double posting again. Fortunately, I and most of my opponents want to bring it back.

Why I Am Better Than My Opponents
-I am generally more engaged in RMB discussion than my opponents, as well as even the previous term's LCs. (At least, I think...)
page=dispatch/id=1412528
-Briteannian ripoff SPIT brands are horrible.

Cons
Reasons you might NOT want to vote for Melicorium:
-I like every single RMB post that doesn’t need a suppression, so expect your notices to be flooded.
-You never know when I will take something as a joke or not. Proctethia and Laamiva know this well.
-I will hastily interfere if you’re an autocracy and you try to take over small, innocent nations.
-If you force me onto a boat to fall in love with another male, I will bring hellfire onto you. Looking at you, Proctethia and Laamiva... >:(

Clarification
I apologize to Volaworand for my pretitle.

Q&A!

Proctethia wrote:Hello! I'd like to ask you some questions about your LC campaigns. Please note that these may be answered in your campaign dispatches already, but these few questions aren't meant to be specific for anybody.

1. Why are you running for LC?

2. What are your stances on double posting and roleplay?

3. Are you able to adapt to situations, or, to serve among those you'd rather not?

4. Do you have any 'big' plans for your term, if you suceed?

5. What sets you apart from the other candidates?

6. What experience do you have (if any)?

7. Cake or Pie?

Thank you for your time.

1. I've greeted new TSPers and pointed out rule-breakers so many times that I want to suppress said rule-breaking posts already, and that I want to use my own greeting (instead of yours) already. I am also already an engaged member of the TSP community.

2. BRING BACK DOUBLE POSTING! I still don't like triple posting, though.
Roleplay is a perfectly good, fun part of our community. However, it should still go to our roleplay regions, Knowhere and Psomewhere Over the Rainbow, if it becomes excessive, or if it is simply two new nations nuking each other or whatnot. I also support the abolishment of Rule XV, as stated above.

3. I am able to exploit most situations to suit my needs, as well as the needs of others.

4. I will try to dominate Auphelia in poll-making. Towards the end of my term, I also plan a Socialist coup.

5. I have been pointing out rule-breaking posts ever since I became active on the RMB, and summoning the LC to suppress them. As stated above, I have come to know the RMB rules well. Not important, but I seem to be the only truly Socialist candidate this eleciton.

6. See the first two sentences of my response to the fifth question.

7. What kind of nonsense is this? ICE CREAM IS CLEARLY SUPERIOR!
*Eats Nestle Drumstick cone*
*Proudly waves Amerionian flag*
(Not related, but WA members, remember to endorse Amerion if you haven't already!)

Kerlodia wrote:Question fer other LC candidates:
What is one flaw you have people should know?

As stated above, whether I take something as a joke or as serious is totally random.
I also don't like it when someone interrupts a roleplay I'm in without my consent.
Both of those can lead to me getting angry - like, really angry.

North prarie wrote:What is your ideal RMB?

What is your view on RMB RP?

What makes you fit to govern the RMB?

Do you support gameside representation in the Cabinet?

How active are you offsite? (forums, discord)

Would you support abolishing the LC? Would you support restructuring it?

Do you think that Cabinet members should be required to be active on the RMB?

Do you think that LCers should be required to be Legislators?

What is your view on Defenderism?

-An RMB that is active and is full with friendly discussion, but at least is not full of rule-breaking posts, trolls, and spammers.

-As stated above, it is an extremely normal, fun part of the RMB community. It should still go to Knowhere or Psomewhere Over the Rainbow if it gets too much, though.

-Also as stated above, I know the rules well, and I have been calling out rule-breakers for the LC to suppress ever since I became active on the RMB.

-Of course! There are different communities on different platforms, but we are still one TSP.

-I am quite active on the Discord. I never go to the forums, tough.

-No, and no. The LC is perfectly fine the way it is.

-I do not think so, since they need their own time to do their Cabinet stuff.

-I do not think so, either. LC's need their own time to accomplish their own things, too.

-Defenderism is the righteous ideology. Protect regional sovereignty around the multiverse!
*Spits and stomps on the flag of The Black Hawks*
Also, screw Fascism!

Fihami wrote:1. Do you believe that there is anything us as the cabinet can do to make regional government more accessible and transparent to gamesiders? Do you believe there even is the need for this? Why or why not?

If you are talking about gamesiders being able to get into the regional government easier, then of course. We need to hear the voices of the various people of TSP!
If you are talking about the actions of the regional government being publicly known, then I support that, too. South Pacificans should be able to have their opinion on government actions -- if they like what the government has been doing, and is showing their full support, then good. If the government has been acting corrupt in the people's eyes, and they want to see action done, then the people's voices should be heard. As such, I think there is a need for government transparency.

Why would he ever do that? I'm one of his favorite minions! ^_^

How Can I Help?
You can support my campaign in a few easy steps:
1. Change your flag to this image:

So remember when I ran for LC a year and a few months ago? Well, I'm running for it again! This should work! Also, I'm not good at formatting, so don't expect this to look cool. It will have all you need to know, though!
For Starters,
Time to start telling you about stuff I've been in!
1. I have continuously lived in TSP for almost 2 years now
2. I have experience in moderation
3. I am quite chatty when asked.
4. I live in Singapore. I can moderate when councillors from Europe or America are asleep.
5. I like helping others.
6. I created my nation in late 2018, and have never once CTE'd. Ever.
7. I like RP-ing! It's in my blood.
8. I have a discord (@kazatsuki_#0300 if you want to DM me)
What to Expect?

1. Time For Chat!
My first action as LC? The relaxation of RMB rules, to permit single-word, pure RP and double posting to an acceptable standard. Mass suppression isn't gonna stir up chatter. As such, as LC, I will remove said rules causing mass suppression of harmless posts. Because a page of 90% suppressed posts isn't very pleasing to the eye, is it? Also, don't think that means I'll be lax dealing with pure spam. I still have a no-nonsense approach to pure spam posting.

2. Polls, Polls, Dear Lord There's Polls
Of course, within TSP, we always expect a poll every now and then. As LC, I will ensure the people are supplied constantly with interesting polls of fresh topics. The polls, they are a-runnin'!

3. More TSP Stuff, Galore!
We need more fun stuff in TSP. As LC, I will expand on existing entertainment sources, while adding new ones (ie short dispatches about daily happenings, government initiatives and the like.)
And I may start a fortnightly talk show podcast with the rest of LC. Who knows where it goes, but it'll be fun!
Even Justice dances with you when you vote for Kerlodia in Local Council!

Have questions? Tag me or telegram me with your questions, and I will try my best to answer them!

First Question! This comes from the good old Proctethia

Proctethia wrote:

5. What sets you apart from the other candidates?

6. What experience do you have (if any)?

7. Cake or Pie?

Thank you for your time.

A: 1. Serving others is in my nature. I genuinely wish to help others, even at the expense of myself, as simply seeing others smile is good enough.
2. I think RP and double posting are fine to a point. I love RP as it livens up the chat, but when it becomes excessive, that's when I'll step in.
3. I can adapt well to situations, and even if the person I serve is someone I wouldn't like to serve, I'll do it anyways, as helping others is paramount in my philosophy.
4. If I succeed, I want to start a podcast about TSP with the rest of the LC, and guests from the region!
5. I'm usually the most friendly to talk to, and tend to be very empathetic towards others.
6. I don't have experience, for this is the second time I'm running for LC!
7. I'm for neither. Too sweet for me.

2nd question, from North prarie.

A:
1. I honestly don't mind RP on the RMB. It livens up the chat, after all. It's essential to avoid an implosion of char due to lack of activity!
2. I'm a veteran of several eras of RP rules, and I understand how to govern properly.
3. I absolutely support it! We need people from all sides to represent TSP, otherwise we'd leave out people's voices!
4. I regularly pop in on discord, and if I get elected, my podcast will be live on TSP discord.
5. I do not support abolishing the LC, as it is a good way to govern without the use of excessive force. We shouldn't call in the CRS over a small RMB issue.
6. I don't think so. They are busy enough in the Cabinet.
7. I don't think so. I'm not on the forum, and many of us TSP citizens are not, so it would be unfair to mandate that.
8. I support Defenderism, to a point. Because extreme defenderism simply leads to isolationism and backsliding.

Next, from Melicorium.

1. For rules XIII and XIV, I support the abolishment of said rule. However, I support modifying rule XIV to be more precise, as the definition of "good RP" is way to vague, and relies solely on the LC's discretion. Instead, there should be a fixed standard of good rp.
2 I genuinely enjoy Auphelia's polls, as they are interesting to say the least. Polls shouldn't be used only for formal stuff!
3. I'm for socialism! Equality for all!

Imperial dodo

Imperial Dodo For Local Birb Council!

About Me/Who Am I?

Well, if you are reading this, I assume that you know that I am running for the TSP Local Council. But for those are not aware, yes, this is my campaign for my bid in the July 2020 Local Council Election.

Let's start with a little info about me. My nation name is Imperial dodo, although I go by the name "Swifty" which is based on my Discord Username (SwiftyGamer#9602). I joined NationStates in late May (around 2 and a half months ago) and I have been active in the South Pacific ever since. I am a member of every Ministry as well as a Senior Staff Member of the Office of WA Legislation. More details on my current positions below. I live in New York City in the United States and my timezone is EST (GMT+5). I am currently entering my second year of High School and my favorite topics are Maths and History. I am online every day of the week and I am active on Discord, the Forums and the RMB.

My Plan If I Become LC

Unlike some of my fellow candidates, I have thought of an elaborate plan of what I will do if I become LC. I believe that all of their flattering sentences and complicated words are good and all, but they don't mean anything if they don't have well thought out plan. If they become LC but then have no plan on legislature they would like to pass/repeal or any new ideas to make the Local Council unique, why should you vote them. The answer is that, YOU SHOULDN'T. This is why I have came up with this Agenda as my plan if I get elected:
- Repeal Article V (Make Double Posting Legal, but not more than 2 in a row.)
- In Regards to Article XIV:
Option 1: Repeal Article XIV completely. (This would make all 1 word posts legal)
Option 2: Edit Article XIV. (The edit would be to make it legal for a selected list of words. The current list is: "lol" ; "lmao" ; "hi" ; "hello" ; "welcome"; "why" ; "how" ; "who" ; "where" ; "what" ; "when". This list is Subject to Change. Words maybe be added or removed.)
- Dedicated LC Roles (This idea is to have a more dedicated role for each LC. Each LC would be assigned one of these and would mainly focus on their role. However they can also help with the 2 others. (role examples: RMB Moderating (self explanatory), Poll Creator (focuses on making better polls than Auphelia. Jokes aside, they would focus on seeing what people would want the next poll to be on and to maybe make more immersive polls such as maybe little games like guessing games or little quizzes about TSP etc...), Communications (their role would be focusing on communications between Gameside and Forumside.)
- LC News (More details in the dedicated section below)

My Views Of The Current LC Laws

Article I: (I could not agree more. SPAM = BAD)
Article II: (Although I do agree, I feel that it could be improved however it is not a priority)
Article III: (Completely Agree)
Article IV: (Again, I agree. Although if LC News were to be instated (see section below), this law may have to be changed.)
Article V: (As I said above, it is a number one priority of mine to repeal this law. This law was enacted during the Drew-pocalipse and was efficient however the times have changed and it is no longer necessary.)
Article VI: (Again, fully agree.)
Article VII: (Could maybe use a little tweak to explain what is NOT flaming, baiting or trolling, but otherwise, full support.)
Article VIII: (I mean, do you really have a choice... If you are not following these rules than why are you even here?)
Article IX: (10/10 Support)
Article X: (Fully supportive of this law.)
Article XI: (I feel that this law could be improved by determining a specific length at witch a post should use spoilers.)
Article XII: (Treat others how you want to be treated. You just DON'T break this rule. I would NEVER change this.)
Article XIII: (I feel as if this rule could almost be merged with Article XIV with my whole idea of certain 1 word posts being acceptable. This could be up for debate.)
Article XIV: (See Section Above for more details.)
Article XV: (Again, I feel as if this could be merged with Article IV however may need to be tweaked if LC News becomes a thing (see section below).)

My Experience

As I said earlier, I joined NationStates in Late May (around 2 and a half months ago) but I am extremely active in all of the Ministries. Don't take it from me, your very own Somyrion said this:

"This probably seems out of the blue, but I just want to say @SWIFTY (Imperial Dodo) FOR LC! you’re awesome. And insanely active. But you’re basically making OWL run while also doing MoRA stuff and SPSF stuff and I don’t know what else. And you learn really quickly. So thanks o/"

In terms of my experience, here are the positions that I hold or that I held and things i've been involved in:

- Soldier of the South Pacific Special Forces
- Senior Staff in the Office of WA Legislation
- Member of The Ministry of Regional Affairs
- Legislator
- Member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Co-Organizers of "The South Pacific Independence Day Festival 2020

How To Support Me

Step 1: Change your flag to Linkthis
Step 2: Change your nation's custom Classification (Unlocked if your nation's population is above 500 million) to "IMPERIAL DODO For Local Birb!"
Optional Step 3: Add "IDLC" to your Discord Nickname.
Step 4: Be Nice to all the other candidates.
Step 5: DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT be toxic towards ANY of the other candidates.

Q & A

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, JUST SEND ME A DISCORD DM (Discord Tag: SwiftyGamer#9602), PING ME IN DISCORD, SEND ME A DISPATCH OR PING ME IN A RMB POST.

1. Why are you running for LC?

The reasons I am running for LC are simple. Number One, I think I can use it as a good way to slowly make myself more well known in TSP so that in the next elections that I run for, I am a little more well known. Number Two, because I want to make the RMB and TSP as a whole an enjoyable place for all TSP citizens and a place where everyone can have fun, as long as they follow the rules.

2. What are your stances on double posting and roleplay?

I feel that we should DEFINITELY make double posting legal because I do not think it fits in the RMB world today and if we were to keep it, it would have to be COMPLETELY revised. I also feel that Articles XV & IV could be reworked. (see my dispatch for more details)

3. Are you able to adapt to situations, or, to serve among those you'd rather not?

At this point, "adapt" is my middle name. With me being new to TSP and NationStates as a whole, I have constantly been having to adapt. For example, 1 day after I joined MoRA, I became the Co-Lead of the TSP Independence Day 2020 Festival without any prior knowledge or events or even MoRA. Another example is in SPSF. I became Soldier (the second rank in SPSF) around a week ago. This past update, I lead my first "Detag Run". Long story short, a detag run is reclaiming raider regions and making look just like they were before the raiders arrived. Anyway, I lead my first detag run. This may seem insignificant until I tell u that leading a detag run is something that you do at the Officer Rank (the one above soldier), yet i'm already doing it just as I became soldier. And as the cherry on the cake, I haven't even been taught how to do one or I haven't even been shown the equipment to use to do one. So if this isn't adapting, than I don't know what is.

4. Do you have any 'big' plans for your term, if you succeed?

- Make Double Posting Legal
- Make 1 word posts Legal
- Maybe add a more dedicated roles for each of the 3 LC's. Each LC would be assigned one of these and would mainly focus on their role. However they can also help with the 2 others. (role examples: RMB Moderating (self explanatory), Poll Creator (focuses on making better polls than Auphelia.
Jokes aside, they would focus on seeing what people would want the next poll to be on and to maybe make more immersive polls such as maybe little games like guessing games or little quizzes about TSP etc...),
Communications (their role would be focusing on communications between Gameside and Forumside)
- LC News (see my campaign dispatch for more details)

5. What sets you apart from the other candidates?

Although people may see me being new as a disadvantage, I think it is what sets me apart from the rest of the field. All of the other candidates have almost become "brainwashed" to the current system of laws and their style. However, with me being new, I am full of new ideas and cool new ways to make the Local Council and TSP as a whole unique from any other region in the world of NationStates.

6. What experience do you have (if any)?

See the "My Experience" Section above.

7. Cake or Pie?

hmmmm, Brownies. Chocolate Brownies. Don't Debate It.

Royaltica

Hello, South Pacificans! After a learning experience in my first election, the Chair of the Assembly election, I’m back! If you haven’t heard of my flourishing kingdom, hello! I’m Royaltica. You can call me Royal (courtesy of Agalaesia for nicknaming me)! In this campaign, first there are things I will do as a Local Councillor, and why I’m running for Local Councillor. Next, you can find ways to support me. Then finally, there is the Q&A. Now read this campaign, and get convinced to vote for me!
You’re a newcomer and barely use the Regional Message Board, so why are you running for Local Councillor?
Because I know the reasons why I’m not using the RMB. I can improve it, and encourage people to use it more often. And you shouldn’t think I can't handle this just because I’ve only been here for a bit more than three months. Never judge a Royaltica by their time in the South Pacific.

Why should I vote for you? Oooo, there’s Her Majesty Queen Auphelia of the RMB! Let me only vote for her…
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on. Vote for me too! I am a good candidate, because if I am elected, the RMB will be a fun place to chat!

How will you improve the RMB?
One of the ways is by having weekly events. A few examples are:
- RMB Messaging Days! It is like Endorsing Days, but it is about who was the most active in the RMB for a week.
- RMB Quizzes! I will post questions in the RMB, and it is just like a regular quiz. Whoever gets the most right, wins.

I will think of more events if you elect me!

Do you have any rules you consider very important, and rules you want to change?
VI. Thou Shalt Not Violate Others’ Privacy, IX. Thou Shalt Not Post Inappropriate Things, X. Thou Shalt Quote as the Quotee Intended, and VII. Thou Shalt Not Troll, Bait, or Flame are rules I consider important. Those who violate rules like these will be banned after one warning. Rules like III. Thou Shalt Not Ask for Endorsements nor Recruit on the RMB, and V. Thou Shalt Not Multi-Post will be given three warnings. Newcomers to the RMB will be given three warnings for every rule when they break them as they might not know the rules, and might forget them. V. Thou Shalt Not Multi-Post, and XIV. Thou Shalt Post Substantive Content are some of the rules I want to change. V. Thou Shalt Not Multi-Post states that there is a rule that two posts in a row is illegal. But I think it should be extended to three posts in a row would be illegal. It would also support the next rule’s change. I think XIV. Thou Shalt Post Substantive Content should be changed, too. Why is posting only one word, like “Yes!” illegal? What if you need to respond to another person, and you don’t have anything else to post besides “Yes!”? Won’t it be considered rude if you’re still online, but aren’t responding? And also, what if you have something else to say? You have to wait for someone else to post! But if it is spam, it'll be suppressed.

How will you choose polls?
I will mostly choose them myself, or ask the other two councillors, if I am given full control over them. But I will introduce another event, where the region will get to suggest polls, and the Local Council and I will choose the best one! The suggestion period will happen every Friday, and the poll we choose will be displayed on Saturday.

Main Nation: Royaltica
Puppet Nations: Kundhala (the Pacific), and Charukeshi (Spiritus). They are used solely for my role as ambassador.
Past and Present Involvement In Other Regions: None.

How can I support you?
1. Spread the word of me running for Local Councillor!
2. Change your pretitle or motto to “Vote Royaltica for LC”, or anything like that!
3. Upvote this dispatch!
4. Change your flag! Here’s a link to the flag: https://imgur.com/a/0BaTEMp

4. Do you have any 'big' plans for your term, if you succeed?

5. What sets you apart from the other candidates?

6. What experience do you have (if any)?

7. Cake or Pie?

1. Because, personally, I don’t use the RMB because it is boring. I can improve it, and encourage people to use it more often.

2. The double posting rule will be modified to become a triple posting rule. I think roleplay should be allowed, unless there is a debate, conversation between multiple people, or anything big going on. If there is, the roleplayers will politely be directed to the roleplay regions.

3. Yes. If there is someone who I don’t like serving with, I’ll just manage, and try to add my ideas in, but respect theirs as well. I’ll also try to be kind to that person, so they might be kind back to me.

4. If I am elected, I will revitalize the RMB.

5. I am probably aiming for higher things.

6. None. I hope that doesn’t discourage you from voting for me! Anyway, if I never get a chance to prove myself, how will you know if having no experience is okay? And how will I get elected in the future if I have no experience? Then it will stay that way forever, sadly, if no one votes for me.

7. I prefer cake.

Auctoritatisque wrote:1. What are your policies on Roleplay/Multi-Posting?

3. Will you change the flag?

4. Anything you'd do in terms of community events or polls?

I think roleplay should be allowed, unless there is a debate, conversation between multiple people, or anything big going on. If there is, the roleplayers will politely be directed to the roleplay regions.

2. I don’t know, but I might in the future.

3. Probably. I might hold a poll sometime to see if we are getting a new flag or not.

4. I will be running a few events in the RMB to increase its popularity, and I will be having many polls. Also, each week I will have the region decide the poll!

PenguinPies wrote:Royaltica, you’re a relatively new nation - why do you think you should be on the LC? And how will you balance the LC responsibility with other things you’re working on?

I think I need to prove myself to the region to have the ability to do things like this, as I am new, and am looking to have a high position (I aim high!). Now, I don’t really have things I’m working on, so I think the LC responsibility will work out well. If I do, I will try to do a bit of what I'm working on, and more of LC. That will make it harder for me to participate in more things, but I think it’ll be worth it.

Greetings, I’m assuming if you’re reading this, you haven’t been hanging around the rmb for any number of years, and don’t actually know me. That’s fine, I’m happy to fill you in.

I’m what is considered an old timer by game standards. I’ve been in TSP since the very founding of this nation, and have never felt a great desire to wander off to other regions. TSP has always had a home feel to it, what with our llamas cavorting, the lampshade flinging, and the consumption of SPIT.

I’m sure both Tsunamy, and the CRS’s are going to want to know if I have any conflicts of interests. Happily for all involved, I can make it simple for you. I have not now, or at any time had any other nations, puppets, or ties to other regions. One nation seems to work pretty well for me.

I’m not going to make any grandiose promises. Those never seem to work for the people that make them, and I’m not that energetic. What I will do if elected is listen to everyone. Oh sure, I may not agree with you, but the rmb belongs to everyone, and I think you have both the right and obligation to use it. The only things I can’t stand are trolls, bullies, and arbitrarily made rules. So if you don’t fit into those categories, you and I will be good.

Hello Everyone!!! *spots a strategically placed baby*

Oh! Did you want me to vomit up a fish for that baby? Sure, no problem. *vomits up a minnow for the baby, who starts to cry*

I love babies. I hear that baby crying. I like it.
OK, so... the Local Council again? Yes, Together we to do this again! I think it's high time to execute ...

Wait. Just a minute... *frowns at the crying baby*
Actually, I was only kidding, you can get the baby out of here.

*glares at the campaign staffer in change of baby placement*

I think she really believed me that I love having a baby crying while I’m speaking.
That’s OK. People don’t understand. *turns back to the adoring, chanting crowd*

Ok, where was I?
Yes! I am seeking your support to again serve a term on the The South Pacific Local Council. I've roamed our region since late 2017, served a term on the Local Council in 2019 and I am looking for your support to allow me to once again serve our community.

I know the job, so I'm not going to make some wild pie in the sky promises and underdeliver, so I again have a one simple reason you should vote for me:

I pledge to use my good judgement.

Here's Volly chatting with an average everyday TSP voter. Take a listen, listen-takers:

So, Good Judgment, eh? You're gonna run on that again? OK. The current administration has beaten me into submission: Remind me, what the heck is that?

In nutshell, No be Stupidz: accept people, keep our region safe and friendly, don't be unreasonable and unresponsive.

  • Reasonable Moderation: That means exercising fair moderation without killing activity. While I don't have any strong feelings on double posting, I would definitely move to prevent the suppression of the initial post, so people can edit their thoughts into the initial post. I did like the 20 minute exception to the double post rule we used to have, so if I find myself on a LC that wants Double posts to stay gone I would push for that exception. I would want to replace it with Rule V. Thou Shalt Wait Thy Turn outlining limits on multiposting. I would still definitely seek to suppress triple+ posts, hate speech, spam and the like with the all powerful TSP Yellow Post-It Note of Suppression. Frankly, I think we could do without Rules XIII, XIV, and XV: I see no real need for these last three rules... the Drewpocalypse is over and I see no need to force the LC to slow down the pace of the RMB and arbitrate the quality of a conversation: and if it gets spammy then we already have a rule for that. Besides, the LC can and should adjust to be responsive to the needs of the region - not the needs of the LC. I have a specific RMB moderation proposal here.

  • WFE updates: Of course I would ensure there is always a poll up and running on the our World Factbook Entry, and, assuming our delegate signs off, I would love for us to bring back Radio South Pacifica to share songs enjoyed by folks in the region. And speaking of the WFE, it is sorely lacking a penguin emoji! I think there must always be a wandering little penguin emoji 🐧 tucked away somewhere on our WFE, moved each time it is updated. Penguin Coup visibility matters in our media!

  • Promote an active RMB: mostly this means being around, active, and watching for folks trying to take part in discussions and engaging with them. Pretty much what being the LC has always done, nothing earth shattering there.

Sounds great! But those are pretty basic, every day things. In a perfect world, what's your LC moonshot?

I'm glad you asked. One of the things that makes TSP so special is how we have carved out an actual part of government that is directly responsible to gameside, and that is really rare and special for a game created region. I think we could actively develop the LC into something better! While these aren't what you would call promises, I do envision long term reform and revitalization of the LC itself.

  • LC internship program: I want to see the LC mentor new LCer's! Crazy I know! But imagine if we had a couple folks that really really wanted to work on contests and games, and another couple that always wanted to work on welcoming new folks, and a couple more serving as Role Play mentors, and one that really really wanted coordinate with MoRA (Ministry of Regional Affairs) events, then we would have folks coming forward upcoming LC elections talking about what they have already done for the region, and why they feel ready for more responsibility. We would need to develop a process and could look at using our roleplay subregion's for people to learn how regional officer powers work as part of this program. We also have some wildly talented and experienced former LCers we could draw on the help develop the skills of new folks.

  • Encouraging Integration: My home is the RMB, though I have been a legislator in our assembly for quite a while, and been known to poke around our discords now and then. Those who have the interest and energy need to be shown how to join the assembly, participate in our OWL WA program, take up the defender cause, practice their SWAN endotarting and help connect them with the offsite resources our region offers. There are numerous avenues to get involved and I hope that I am at least familiar enough with them to help folks find what they need. We are one region, and we can get even better when all parts of the Coalition are working together! We could even host events where our mostly-forum or mostly-discord folks can swing by the RMB now and then! And you know what would make all this easier? An active cadre of LC interns. Release the hounds!

  • Expanding the LC: So, in a perfect world we now have a wildly active, engaged, and experienced LC crew: the logical next step? A five or seven person LC! While our region's Charter guarantee's only one LCer the regional officer power, (the other two spots are accually appointed at the pleasure of the Delegate) a larger LC could share access of the nation we created in my last term in 2019, the one used to publish the LC's dispatches and instead have The tsp local council nation be the Regional Officer used by an expanded LC. Of course, this would involve having a much more structured set of rules a larger LC would operate under. This would also free up more spaces for the Council on Regional Security members to hold Regional Officer positions. This is just a vague shapeless thought at this point, and not something I can see us handling today, but someday it might work. TSP can continue to show our leadership in democratic reform.

Cool! Can you wrap this up, my telenovela is coming on and Lucas, the one who's separated from his true love, Jade, has assumed his dead identical twin brother Diego's identity to marry his brother's fiancée and inherit the family business, and I'm just dying to know what comes next!

Thanks for your time and consideration. I encourage you to check out my RMB responses below, campaign dispatches, and do feel free to telegram or tag me in the RMB if you have any questions. I will keep adding information and dispatches, to drum up HYPETM for our campaign for TSP, the best online community I love and hold dear to my heart. Now I have a question for you: Can I count on your vote?

Well you've got my vote! Now get out of here, you adorable little penguin. I gotta watch me stories, so git!

Volly waddles away, beaming with joy knowing he has secured his first vote. Time for a celebratory fish!

Ok folks, keep them questions coming! Yes, you sir!

Do you think that Cabinet members should be required to be active on the RMB?

Do you think that LCers should be required to be Legislators?

What is your view on Defenderism?

Thanks for this series of questions, North prarie.

What is your ideal RMB? The South Pacific, though it could use more moments where we all stop and break out into song to sing about what we are doing.

What is your view on RMB RP? Role Play that is Safe, Sane, and Consensual doesn't bother me at all.

What makes you fit to govern the RMB? Is the RMB really "governable"? Setting that aside, I've done it before, and thanks a oh-so-super-fun COVID layoff, I have the time to help guide and guard it again.

Do you support gameside representation in the Cabinet? I think Canadians should be represented in the Queen's Privy Council of Canada, and American's be represented in the White House. Everyone in Cabinet is from gameside, so I don't really see it as needed. Cabinet, when not busy in all their cabinetry, are most welcome to stay active in gameside. I would love to see the cool cabinetry they've made: base, wall, tall, kitchen even bathroom, preferably something with a nice flooded glaze finish.

How active are you offsite? (forums, discord) I'm around both enough to qualify as active. Last time I served on the LC I found the @BorderControl Discord tag very helpful the odd times when spammers disrupted the RMB. A quick peek at my forum user profile tells me this: Posts: 572 (0.58 per day | 0.28 percent of total posts), Reputation: 143. Registration Date: 11-17-2017, 12:36 AM, Is that active? I don't roleplay offsite, so I suppose maybe my numbers be higher, but I prefer to play the game how I play the game. I know our offsite resources well enough to connect folks to the right place when they want it.

Would you support abolishing the LC? Would you support restructuring it? No. I do not think that the oldest democracy in NationStates should abolish the only elected law making body within TSP's government structure. And Yes. I absolutely think TSP can continue show our leadership by continually improving our democracy. Check the "LC moonshots" portion of my campaign dispatch.

Do you think that Cabinet members should be required to be active on the RMB? This isn't really within the realm of the Local Council, so I will respond in my capacity as a Legislator: No, an activity requirement would be weird to codify and clunky to enforce. But Cabinet's communications and contributions are always most welcome on the RMB. FiHami's weekly post with a dispatches outlining what the SPSF are up to is a perfect example.

Do you think that LCers should be required to be Legislators? No.

What is your view on Defenderism? R/D gameplay is not the purview of the Local Council. On an unrelated note, do remind me to ask the next Cabinet nominee's for their views on the finer points of RMB emoticon usage and double posting policies. Anyway, to address your question: Fenda 4eva! We should have declared as a defender region ages ago, as it fits our regional values, so I'm quite happy.

*nods, and maintains eye contact, (because pollsters tell me people like it when I nod and maintain eye contact) nods again*

Fihami wrote:These responses kinda do prompt a few questions of my own honestly, stuff that I'd be interested in hearing from yourself, and the other LC candidates.

1. Do you believe that there is anything us as the cabinet can do to make regional government more accessible and transparent to gamesiders? Do you believe there even is the need for this? Why or why not?

Thanks for the question Fihami,

TSP already has a very accessible government. It's pretty easy for folks to become Legislators and get involved in the Assembly, or join in the discussion on discord. People can easily work on whatever project they are passionate about (assuming they know what's happening). As far as transparency, I can understand Cabinet being most responsive to Assembly legislators... that's who elects them, after all! It's just appreciated when the cabinet sends news back home here to the Gameside Mother Country. It's always nice to hear what the offsite colonialists are up to, and it may even prompt some to make the voyage out for a visit.

I need a drink after all this talking. One Joe Penguin Cumber Mint SPIT Juicebox, please!

1. Yes. They are redundant: all of these activities, if they become a problem, are already covered under I. Thou Shalt Not Spam.
2. I appreciate her polls as entertaining. Last time I was on the LC with her, I accually managed to run a poll on this very topic page=poll/p=145215 and I stand by my response: "Her polls give us hope of overcoming the injustices of capitalist democracy and creating a brighter future for everyone."
3. Not how it has been practiced thus far. If you would like to dig further into my brain, you can find out where I am on the political spectrum in this dispatch.

Say that Amerion fellow is questioning your reign as a perfect Local Councillor. What torture/tactic would you use to put him in his place?

Thanks Saint Cinder (and North prarie) for the chance to address this most serious and pressing matter!

Well, first off, that would just never happen, everyone loves an adorable penguin coup. If, in some weird parallel universe, this odd situation were to come to pass, I suppose I would lock him in the Dungeon of Mass Pings for the night and see if he was still alive and more cooperative after a day or two.

So far so good. Maybe I'll loosen up with another Joe Penguin SPIT. Yeah no rush, you're an awesome server! *does a weird dad finger guns motion* What's "OK Boomer" even mean? *shrug*

Aumeltopia wrote:Volaworand I have a question.

Wouldn't you say that your proposed rule should be Thou Shalt Wait Thy Turn, for consistency?

My vote depends on this matter.

Hmmm great idea... if this were the Assembly I would move that we develop an multi departmental committee to debate and study the matter, who will invariably come back to the assembly with a recommendation that we then submit to a Legal Question the High Court. Of course, the result of this question will most likely result in the finding of conflict rules resulting in rule 2, 7 and 9 being struck from the books.

But hey, this is gameside... so yeah I love the idea. I'm gonna tweak my campaign dispatch right now. Thanks Aumeltopia!

Excuse me, waitress, can you get me another SPIT Juicebox? Yeah that Joe Penguin brand of SPIT is certainly the finest SPIT in all the lands! I'll take a Ruby Red Grapefruit, please.

Islands of unity wrote:LC election questions?

I guess the most important question is if you're going to bow down to Amerion? 😛

How do you see the relationship between the offsite community and the onsite community developing over the next year?

Great questions, Islands of unity.

Did Did Queen Amidala bow to Emperor Palpatine? I have no idea, but judging by the state of affairs in Naboo, she definitely should have.

I am certain that anyone elected to the LC, looking out from balconies of the palatial Local Council Palace (on picturesque Mount Conveniently Placed) will simply have to bow down when gazing way, way, way down at the ratty old beachside Delegate Cabaña, they will probably even have to squint to see it in those slums. Speaking of the Delegate Cabaña, we absolutely need to get the racoons out of there ... they've chewed holes in the thatch and the biscuit crumbs are everywhere. That should all have been disposed of in the TEP Outhouse out back with the rest of the regions industrial waste.

Anyway, back to the question... The delegate is generally who the LC turns on for advice and guidance, as opposed to the CRS who we just call on when we have a spammer or troll in need of banishment. Not sure if it's an accurate view constitutionally, but I see the delegate as gameside's highest ranking member of government. The Assembly might filter out the flotsum and narrow the field, but the delegate is ours and we love them. And the Cabinet only really needs them if we're invaded anyway. Anyway, so yes, this penguin enthusiastically waddle/bows/farts a little for our Supreme Overlord. :-)

As for the relationship between the offsite community and the onsite community developing over the next year?

We are one region and each part needs the other to exist in our Coalition, so I would hope for more crossover participation. The LC can encourage more folks to be active with SWAN, OWL WA (which is so awesome and exciting), SPSF and various cabinet projects as the initial steps. I would see LC promoting regional events organized MoFA and MoRA and continue to focus on ensure conversations in the RMB are stable and welcoming. LC doesn't have the same institutional structure that offsite has, so we still have work to do on that front: Typically when someone has energy and passion for institution building, they are steered to the Assembly or various cabinet projects. I wouldn't want to see the LC stand in the way of that pipeline of talent participating in offsite projects. Just a gut feeling but I think it a lot of what our region call Integration problems could be solved with TSP Journalist's spinkling the occasional dispatch and Cabinet Officials dropping by the RMB now and then to talk about what's new in the zoo.

I've floated some thoughts on a LC Internship Program and Encouraging Integration under the "LC moonshot's" portion of my main dispatch which touches on the topic. I invite you to check it out.

Islands of unity wrote:My runner up question for the lc candidates is what should my new flag be?

A stylized crescent island archipelago, depicted on a TSP standard blue ocean, all united in launching tactical nuclear weapons at a flag of the East Pacific. Oh, and put a gold fringe on it. Gold fringe is all the rage nowadays!

I'm still waiting on that SPIT. Yeah! You know what, toots, just Bring me one of each flavour!

Proctethia wrote:Volaworand oh my days, I love your campaign!

Whether the internship happens or not, I wouldn't really recommend to use POTR, as it may disturb the roleplayers (I plan to spend some time there more often during my break).
So, if the internship does happen, I have a humble suggestion. I founded a region, The Local Council, to act as a, Local Council version of Government Island, but I never actually put it forth. What I'm trying to say is that it can be used for your internship plans - if they ever come into play. To be honest, the LC can do whatever they want with it, if they want to use it, which they don't have to. :-P

Aww thanks Proctethia!

Yeah I think putting some of our sub regions to further use as LC training grounds could work, though I would see that a later stage development. I would think first steps would be having a specific welcome wagon for new nations, some role play mentors, and dispatch upvote squad could be the inital steps. Again, that all depends on the configuration of the LC we end up electing as a region.

EDIT: whispers: the role players there might even be the ones interested?

Thanks, Doll! Here, buy yourself something nice! *makes it rain*

Zess wrote:Volaworand. I apologize if this question has already been asked and answered but what’s your stance on the “two word minimum” rule?

Hi Zess, Thanks for the question!

It wasn't explicitly asked yet, but I did address this directly in my campaign. I am in favour for deleting rules 13, 14 and 15 entirely, (as any of the issues that might arise from thier deletion are already covered under the Thou Shalt Not Spam rule) and on a related note: when it comes to double posts... I would want replace rule five with Thou Shalt Wait Your Turn (with a 20 minute inactivity exception allowing a single second post if 20 minutes have passed.) And the initial post should always be left visible, assuming no other rule breech occurred.

*hick* You know what! Hey, come closer. *whispers* You're my best friend! *HICK!*

Proctethia wrote:

Hello!

Hey Proctethia, thanks for asking! I am happy to take part in the Q&A!

1. I'm laid off and have the time again, and to restore the initial post in the enforcement of the anti-double post rules. So to summarize: I have the time and I'm not capriciously full of malice and distain for the RMB. :-)

2. Meh. I lean towards suppression of double posts (but definitely leaving the first one in place), and leaving the roleplay alone unless it get's spammy. The RMB rules really depend on a two person majority within LC though, and I would seek a consensus when it comes the RMB guidelines, as a core daily function of the Council.

3. I've worked with some of them before without issues, and I'm happy to work with anyone. I'm the type of person that keeps everyone focused on the job at hand... maybe being a manager for 20 some years has taught me that.

4. I'm promising to simply return good judgement, but if we get an active, engaged LC, and I am elected to be part of it I do outline a moonshot LC intern proposal in my central dispatch and a bit of vision for what the LC could be down the road.

5. We have a great bunch of folks running, and I think any combination of the folks running will turn out fine. Not to take anything away from the other folks in the race, but I'm the most experienced penguin in the running, My corruptness is adorable yet harmless, and I guess I'm wildly young by comparision with some of the piratey types, hehee.

6. I've been in our region since the fall of 2017. I've previously served a very productive term on the LC where we formalized the LC election act, developed the border control policy still in place today, and when we created the nation used to store LC dispatches instead of scattering them around all various local councilors. I am a legislator in our assembly (by the way, my proposal to repeal the part of the the regional Election Act on LC vacancies should be going to vote soon. If passed will free up the LC to propose revisions to the own LC Election Act here, since, as you know, the provision at issue was one that the assembly passed in 2016, lost track of and forgot to index, thought they repealed in 2017 but missed the stray article that hadn't been indexed, Court ruled that they didn't, then the Court ruled in a second question on how to resolve the conflicts that arose between laws after it was reinserted, and yes, I was disappointed the LC didn't file an amicus brief when either legal question was before the High Courts ... so wait, where was i... yeah that all resulted in the LC election Act having a couple conflicting points on LC vacancies stuck down last month... none of which would have even been an issue if the LC had just gotten it's act together and filled a vacancy when there was one, but whatever... I suppose since the power has been re-vested with the delegate, so yeah we are fine until its all sorted out - yeah not frustrated at all)... I suppose that's a long and roundabout way of saying I understand the interaction of our laws and bureaucracy as it relates to us here gameside and will always take steps to protect local control of local matters? So... yeah. Did I mention I'm a super cute adorable penguin criminal overlord? And I've got a pretty sweet TSP season 1 Nationstates cards collection.

7. Pie! I will support the pieletariat over caketalists every time. Vive la liberté de tarte!

*zzz* wabba wabba wabba ... *zzz*

Western fardelshufflestein

Western Fardelshufflestein for Local Councillor

An obligatory picture of Kenneth Branagh

Hello, TSP! I am Western Fardelshufflestein, a meme constitutional monarchy and a native of this region. While I have only been on NationStates for a few months, I thoroughly enjoy this game, and I am expanding upon my nation's lore and leaders through factbooks and roleplay.

Yes, I admit it, I am quite active on the forums. However, this does not mean I do not interact with my fellow nations on the RMB. I just happen to really, really like storytelling and memes.

What makes WF unique, besides our Flammenwerfer Regiment and obsession with Shakespeare, are our characters. And, no, I am not referring to LinkKenneth Branagh; instead, I am talking primarily about Western Fardelshufflestein's government. Between our uncouth Parliament and eccentric royals, we never have a dull moment in our nation's capital.

What, you are wondering, does this have to do with an LC campaign? Admittedly, not much. But I would love to encourage roleplay in The South Pacific's Regional Message Board (RMB) and have the chance to interact with other TSP characters! Of course, I may or may not have the tendency to make random Hamlet references and summon random historical figures, but what spices things up like a random appearance of the ghost of Frederick the Great of Prussia?

My Take on the RMB Etiquette

Rule I
I am in full support of this rule; spamming is distracting and disruptive, and it negatively impacts other nations currently using the RMB.

Rule II
You may post in another language, of course, but you must include an English translation to the best of your abilities.

Rule III
I also support this rule, and I feel that intentional violation of Rule III qualifies as spamming.

Rule IV
Yes! Roleplay is highly encouraged on the RMB, as it allows for fun, creative expression, and bonding over (mis)adventures such as durian-flammenwerfer wars and ghost Vikings. However, if the roleplay starts interfering with the rest of the RMB, it is best if such potentially meme-worthy chaos continues in TSP's roleplay regions, Knowhere and Psomewhere Over the Rainbow. Who knows; maybe we could have a TSP roleplay on the forums, if enough people wish to do so.

Rule V
Honestly, I would like to bring back the double post. It is very awkward when the RMB is dead for extended periods of time, and a second post may revive it. Posting more than twice in a row, however, would still not be allowed.

Rule VI
Do NOT, under ANY circumstances, violate this rule. Displaying personal information of another player is forbidden UNLESS that information was initially shared by the player in question. (In short, I fully support this rule.)

Rule VII
I agree with this in full, as well.

Rule VIII
Ditto.

Rule IX
This rule is absolutely necessary.

Rule X
As is this rule; misquoting someone is inappropriate, as it may alter/twist their words in a way that is not at all what they intended. For longer posts, replace the post with "-snip-" or "snip."

Rule XI
Yes. Use this.

Rule XII
Overtly disrespectful posts toward another player(s) will be suppressed. This is a very important rule to have.

Rule XIII
Please include multiple words in your posts.

Rule XIV
Yes, I believe Rule XIV should be upheld so as to prevent spamming. "Hello/Hi," Yes," and "No" should be the only single-word replies allowed.

Rule XV
I also agree with this rule.

CONGRATULATIONS! If you have made it this far, I commend you. Which means I must now give you a nice glass of WF SPIT and a Shakespearean character action figure.
