The Republic of Nova Hesse is a huge, pleasant nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. The hard-working population of 505 million Nova Hesseans have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The relatively small government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Spirituality, and Defense. The average income tax rate is 12.9%.

The Nova Hessean economy, worth 24.9 trillion thalers a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Woodchip Exports industry, with major contributions from Pizza Delivery, Gambling, and Book Publishing. Average income is 49,288 thalers, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 4.1 times as much as the poorest.

Millionaires are surprised to find they are eligible for government handouts, metal detectors have been banned after a bottle cap caused a riot at the beach, the government guarantees extra-soft tissues to fire-snorting elephants, and videogames like 'Equalia: Knights of Self-Confidence' are proving inexplicably unpopular. Crime is relatively low, thanks to a capable police force. Nova Hesse's national animal is the panther, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

Nova Hesse is ranked 165,629^th in the world and 1,720^th in the Pacific for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring 644.87 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
