This guide is primarily intended for use in The Hope Federation. However, much of the
information here is still relevant to other modern tech (MT) RP regions. Keep in mind some info
here may be region-specific.
So I decided to write this guide because I see an influx of nations to my region and many others who want to do roleplay but don’t really know how. This is certainly not a bad thing-without new people, NS would slowly decay-but it seems to me that this lack of knowledge is reducing the quality of military RP, so believe that I bear some responsibility to equip these new players with a resource to guide them through the basics.
Now before we begin, I want to make a few things clear. This guide is extensive, but by no means does it contain everything to know about military strategy and organization(hence the “nearly” in the title). While it will provide the essentials, I strongly encourage you to continue your research independently and further expand your knowledge. Second, know that to make mistakes is human. I am not perfect at RP, nor is anyone else I know. Never be afraid to ask for help, or to ask questions-90% of the time, the person you are playing with will be cooperative.
Finally, remember that we are all here to have fun. Take your RP seriously, but not to the point of stress.
- Use proper spelling and grammar: A post needs to readable if you want someone to
respond. It doesn't need to be perfect, just review it quickly before you post to catch any errors.
Too Long, Too Short: RP posts that are only one or two lines long are not ideal, nor are
posts that could rival Ulysses in length. Now, inevitably you will probably have to write both
of these types sooner or later, but try to keep these the exception rather than the rule.
-Break it up: A wall of text is difficult and unpleasant to read. Break up your writing into
separate paragraphs to make it flow better.
-Be specific: “My fighters take off and attack your fighters”. Yeah, what? How many are
there? What kind of aircraft? How far away are they? Are they attacking with guns or missiles? If
missiles, how are they guided? A little detail goes a long way-this is a REQUIREMENT in the
Hope Federation, and a good idea everywhere else.
-Avoid Godmodding Godmodding is an insidious issue which can creep into RP and is a
good way to cause lots of frustration. It manifests in different ways, but generally involves:
● Declaring someone else’s losses and/or giving them no chance to respond(Ex: “ I fire
1000 missiles at your ships and they all are hit and sink HA HA”. This is an extreme
example, but you get the idea.)
● Not declaring your own losses. You are not invincible, and unless there is an extreme
disparity in numbers/technological advancement(and I mean something like ten MiG-15s
against 120 F-22s), you are going to take losses. Be realistic in your assessment of
damage.
● Having equipment/soldiers which are ridiculously overpowered. Balance your strengths
and weaknesses, and remember to keep it realistic for modern tech.
● Having a ridiculous number of equipment/troops, especially in one area. You cannot
quickly move an army of 10 million all at once, and such an army would require immense
logistics operations to feed, shelter, fuel, and maintain. Likewise, cramming 2,000 aircraft
into a small combat area would flood radars and targeting systems, result in friendly fire
losses, and probably cause mid-air collisions.
-Avoid Metagaming: Metagaming is godmodding equally evil cousin. Simply put
metagaming is using out-of-game information, or in-game information that you could not
possibly know, to influence your in-game behavior. If your enemy’s generals are discussing how
they will attack next while in a bunker located in the middle of nowhere, you can’t use that
information to decide your next move. Remember, you are not omniscient.
-Write a military factbook: Again, this is REQUIRED to RP in the Hope Federation, and
highly encouraged everywhere else. Simply listing some info about your armed forces will go a
long way to clear up any confusion. It doesn’t have to be super-detailed, but at a minimum you
should state your total number of soldiers, the total funding for your military, and what
equipment you have along with the amounts for each.
First, to quote Sun Tzu(I’ll be quoting him a lot through this),
many heavy chariots, and a hundred thousand mail-clad soldiers, with provisions enough to
carry them a thousand li, the expenditure at home and at the front, including entertainment of
guests, small items such as glue and paint, and sums spent on chariots and armor, will reach
the total of a thousand ounces of silver per day. Such is the cost of raising an army of 100,000
men.
In other words,
The resources required to fund an ongoing war effort are immense and will inflict a high cost on your nation. Supplying your soldiers and maintaining your equipment will require massive quantities of metals, plastics, rubber, glass, composite materials, fuels, lubricating oils, textiles, medicines, and food, in addition to electrical energy. Even a very wealthy nation might find it difficult to provide healthcare and education to its citizens during a large war, much less have the funds to continue building a superproject at the same time. The resource cost is compounded by the damage that may be inflicted on infrastructure. Roads, bridges, railroads, factories, farms, and mines are likely to be damaged or destroyed by airstrikes and shelling. There is also the enormous human cost; most of your able-bodied citizens are likely to be out on the front lines. Many of them will return home dead or permanently handicapped, resulting in labour shortages long after the fighting ends.
Therefore, it is best to avoid wars which will result in no significant gains for you, or to fight against a foe which does not present a serious threat to your security. As Sun Tzu says,
Second, it is essential in the modern war theatre to maintain a strong combined arms operation, and to know the strengths and weaknesses of both yourself and your enemy. What I often see is people just spamming tanks or infantry or whatever at an enemy and assuming that’s good enough. It’s not. A competent foe will take the weaknesses of the one type of troop you are putting in the field and exploit them. An armoured division and mechanized infantry, supported by attack helicopters and artillery, is a powerful front to contend with. The same goes for your air and sea operations-diversity is essential.
Third, you should never underestimate the value of logistics. As stated before, war consumes enormous number of resources. Therefore, for however many men you have fighting, you must have an equal or near-equal number of men supplying them. If you allow the enemy to disrupt your supply routes, your army will starve, or at the very minimum it will cause shortages and decrease morale. Efforts must be made into protecting these routes.
Conversely, you should make as much of an effort as reasonable to prevent the enemy from being supplied. Sink his ships, shoot down his aircraft, destroy roads and harass his trucks. If warfare bogs down into attritional fighting, this may be the only way to enable an advance.
Fourth and finally, you must know when to move and how to move. Quoting Sun Tzu again,
five to one, to attack him; if twice as numerous, to divide our army into two. If equally matched,
we can offer battle; if slightly inferior in numbers, we can avoid the enemy; if quite unequal in
every way, we can flee from him.
Therefore you must know when to attack and when to withdraw. Attacking head-on in one great line is often not the best way-look for opportunities to maneuver around the enemy. In addition, you must adapt your methods of moving your armies to the terrain you are in. All of these will be discussed in-depth in the section on land warfare.

Example North-Korea generally conducts war mongering every few months, which among other factors are a reason why it is the most isolated and sanctioned nation on the planet.

Spamming on the RMB is not allowed at all, under any circumstances. Spamming is probably best described as a post that is meaningless and/or unnecessary— for example, a post that repeats the same thing multiple times, a lone emoji or image, multiple posts of the same thing, or a series of posts that have no apparent meaning. It does not matter what your intent is— if your post(s) fits the above definition, it is considered spam and will be dealt with accordingly.
We understand that many of you come from backgrounds where English is not your main language, as players come from all around the world. However, to avoid confusion among people who don't speak your language, we sincerely ask that you post in English only, for ease of communication.
Remember, there are tools like 
Google Translate to help you. If you speak in another language, please add a translation to English in the same post. Posts with English translations will not be suppressed. For the avoidance of doubt, English means Modern English and not backwards English.
Asking for endorsements on the RMB is not allowed at all, under any circumstances. Ever. Permissions are only made if the requester is a member of the Council on Regional Security, the Coral Guard, or the Delegate seeking to increase endorsement counts for the purposes of promoting regional security.
If you want to receive and give more endorsements, get involved in the Southern World Assembly Initiative, TSP’s endorsement program.
Similarly, recruiting, or telling people to move to another region, is also not allowed. You may not ask people to join your region on the RMB, whether you are also a South Pacifican citizen yourself or not.
It's all legal! As long as it complies with the rules. Specifically; remember to keep your roleplays appropriate (as stated in rule IX). The LC has reached a general conclusion on what is appropriate, and if your roleplay does not fit within those boundaries, it will be stopped. So, excessive display of affection, sexually-suggesting roleplay, and the like, are not allowed at all.
Similarly, do not clog the RMB with your roleplay. If you feel it has been going on for a while, either take it to a roleplay region, or cease it all together. Otherwise, it may be interfered with. When the board is dominated by roleplay, it becomes hard for everyone else to communicate with each-other, thanks to the overabundance of posts completely unrelated to what they are doing.
But other than those things, feel free to roleplay to your heart's content!
Triple posting, or posting three posts in a row, is considered illegal, as are any other number of posts more than two in a row. All posts after the initial two post will be suppressed. If one hour has passed without another post on the RMB a single third post will be allowed
It is not permitted to post or otherwise share another player's personally-identifying information (i.e. social media accounts, IP addresses, postal addresses, E-mail addresses, telephone numbers, etc.), and neither is it permitted to post or share information that may not be identifying but is nonetheless of a personal nature (i.e. medical history, relationship status, etc.). The only exception is if the player in question has shared that information themselves and does not mind its dissemination (this sharing or statement of permission must be publically viewable).
Making a claim of serious out-of-character misconduct (e.g. bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, etc.) against someone else, without providing evidence to moderation/administration, is considered malicious harassment, and will be dealt with accordingly. This rule applies to the TSP forum and discord as well.
Trolling is defined as starting quarrels or upsetting people by posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages with the intent of provoking other nations into displaying emotional responses. Baiting is similar to trolling, and is defined as posting with the aim of angering someone indirectly, directed at a specific person. Flaming is defined as posting insults or other verbal and often personal attacks on other nations. Erudite slams while maintaining a veneer of politeness can also be considered flaming. All three of these are banned under all circumstances.
This is an extension of a simple policy of respect. What may seem like good natured fun to you could be trolling to someone else, and if they tell you to stop, do so.
We can and will warn, suppress, and even ban you, as well as record the incident. In severe cases the NationStates Moderators will be contacted, and puppets will not hide your IP address from them.
TSP is a part of NationStates, and as such, you must follow the rules of the game as a whole at all times. Breaking the game rules will land you in trouble with both the regional officers and NationStates site moderation. See the link below for the list of rules and a quick FAQ page for more details on the game rules.
Excessive swearing, explicit, suggestive, or excessively violent messages, sexual references, and other such things will be suppressed on sight, and the NationStates site moderators can and will be called to get involved in serious cases. Excessive displays of personal affection (e.g. suggestive roleplayed snuggling, nuzzling, kissing, licking and so on) is also considered inappropriate and will be suppressed accordingly.
Mild swearing may be tolerated, mild sexuality may be at the very most hinted, but explicit or excessive versions of either or both will result in moderation intervention, both from the Local Council and potentially from NationStates site moderators. Derogatory terms are disallowed, and all swearing must abide by all other rules, particularly those about respecting others.
It is illegal to edit what someone else has written when quoting it in order to make it seem like they expressed a view which they didn’t. Quote-editing should be avoided even for comic effect.
When you are responding to someone's post, please quote their post (by pressing the "quote" button), as it makes it less confusing and will alert them to your post.
When quoting an offensive post, delete the content of the post and replace it with "-snip-". Doing so makes the administrators’ jobs much easier.
When quoting long posts, please cut the post down to the particular parts you are responding to, or replace the extraneous material with "-snip-".
The [spoiler] tag is your friend. When making or quoting a very long post, or one which not everyone might want to read, please add spoilers, so as to avoid taking up a large amount of the page.
If you are giving a spoiler of a recently released book or film, put it in a spoiler tag, to give people who haven't read/watched it a chance. As a general rule of thumb, give a month for films post-release (as release dates may be different in different areas) and two months for book releases.
Remember, there are other, real people behind the nations on the RMB. Everyone here is a human being with emotions and the right to be respected.
While dissent with regional officers (LC, Delegate, CRS, and Ministers) is perfectly acceptable, remember that they are people too, and worthy of basic human decency. The regional officers should be respected at all times just as any other member of the region should.
When debating, always remember to attack the argument rather than the person making it. If you find yourself getting heated, try to take a step back. Personal insults, insults to intelligence, etc. will not be tolerated. The only form of debate banned on the RMB is that over a particular suppression. For more information, see the Help Section at the end of this document.
Single word posts that do not advance conversation are not allowed. If you find yourself wondering if a post is both unsubstantial and too short, it likely is. This rule does not mean you have to post several paragraphs of content every time you want to post. Single sentence posts, single word greetings, and single-word replies quoting other posts are still allowed under this rule.
However, at the discretion of the Local Council, posts deemed to be insubstantial and not contributing to the regional discourse will be suppressed. An excellent way to avoid this is to add thought to your posts.

The Defenders of this profanity have either stated that its "Freedom of Speech" while others stating that "It has to benefits" and few people even happened to say that "Nationalism caused WW2." Even Kringalia stated that "Screw Nationalism". So now its time to show our power.
TSP has many Regionalist and I am asking you all Regionalists whether you are Leftist or Rightist or Centralist to join the SPSF. Let's prove these Moderators that Regionalism is important and integral part of TSP. Few have stated that we Regionalist are 'Crypto-fascists'. With the changing times now its time we have an index to determine the better region. All the Newspapers and Networks have their results based on the surveys which is indeed their journalism, but the facts should have more preference. Hence I have decided to make Progressive Regional Index [PRI]. The Index will be based on various things. The Index will have Top 20 Regions based on The Most World Assembly Endorsements in the World. And population above 10 or 10.
The following will be taken in consideration for Giving Points
1] In a region there are how many WAs? [this will be in Percent and that much percent will be converted to points out of 100]
2] From the WAs how many have endorsed WAD? [again percent converted to points out of 100]
3] Does the Region has an army? [ if yes +60 points, if no -10 points]
4] Are there Elections? [if yes, 20 points if no 0 points]
5] Are there Ministries or Departments? [If Yes 10 points, If No -10 points]
6] Region's Population Rate [If going up then 05 Points If Declining -5 points if stable then 0 points]
7] Does the region officially endorse a particular ideology? [If Yes -5 if no +05]
