Annual Union Progress Address - 2024+1 - "Hopeful progress"
Archbishop, Prime Minister and Ministers outline progress over the last year.

The Annual Union Progress Address, which has taken place since 1993 was widely anticipated given the changes over the last year especially after a delay due to administrative and statistical issues. With Ministers and States Council members sitting along a table behind the lectern, the Archbishop, Prime Minister, and Ministers took their turn at updating on the general progress of the Union.

Head of State, The Archbishop of Cape Town, His Grace, Thabo Ndungan, introduced the event calling for "continued hard work and unity within and between our nations" and congratulating the populace for their entrepreneurism and efforts. His Grace spoke about how the UZA was "finding it's place in the world, with defence and economic partnerships that can endure."

The Prime Minister, Mr Bulani Mbeki, then took the lectern and updated on the federal government's programmes which include big investments in infrastructure, military capability, industrial strategy and rail. Headline growth was 4.22% year on year with nominal GDP now at 612.81bn USD with population estimates at 80.36mn people, of which around 50mn were documented citizens active in the economy.

The economy had "almost completely re-aligned away from the Global Security Association 2 in the face of their excessive protectionism and tariffs and towards -Empire of Japan- The United British Kingdom, Zeleniya the Europe through initiatives such as the Atlantic Battery Alliance ".

The impact of the International Trade Association had been very positive in increasing trade with unaligned and western nations in the face of GSA trade aggression. By setting maximum tariffs, trade had increased with and with Indhiya Imperial Eagle and other unaligned nations such as Banglades h.

Specific initiatives that were starting to pay dividends included On-shored lithium processing and Improved terms with De Beers.

Mbeki handed over to Minister for Mining and Natural Resources, Mr Devondo Alweendo who said that "Next year should see benefits coming through from increased lithium exports, BP Gas and Oil Investment and inward investment from global brands such as
Toyota of Japan
".

Defence Minister - Mr Kagiso Mamila then gave an update on armed forces renewal.
the UZA has now taken delivery of 18 HAL JAF-17 Thunder, with pilot training ongoing. 18 Dornier 228 transport planes are now in service. The generous contribution of Kawasaki C1s from Japan for electronic warfare have now replaced the C-47 Dakotas dating from the 1950s. 16 Bataleur helicopters are now in service.

The Challenger II tank, licensed from the United Kingdom is now in serial production.

The Air force is considering the future of the domestically produced Rooivalk Attack helicopter. The 15 current airframes date back to the 1990s. A new version could provide a low cost long range patrol and interception capability. This would include updated avionics and materials, foreign partners are being sought to reduce the unit costs.

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure - Jack Burgher updated on future social projects. The learning points and information received from the current visit to Flourishing Southlands was being considered. Of specific note was their approach to welfare and providing banking to the unbanked.

Ministers, civil servants and the States Council were deliberating on a 'new contract' which would be put to the vote in election dues next year. This is likely to include a UZA version of initiatives to make bank accounts more accessible, business easier to set up and simplifying pensions and benefits with simple cash payments with simpler means testing.

The event was officially ended by the Archbishop who thanked the speakers, the audience and the people of the Union at large and lead a reciting of the Lords Prayer.

Parliament Passes "Village Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2024" Empowering Village Courts

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Today marks a significant milestone as the "Village Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2024" was passed in parliament, granting expanded powers to village courts, including the ability to impose fines of up to Tk 3 lakh.

LGRD Minister Yasin Ali introduced the bill, which was passed by voice vote, demonstrating broad support for this legislative update.

Under the amended law, a village court will consist of five members, including the union parishad chairman, ensuring a robust representation for local governance in dispute resolution.

In cases where a member's absence impedes court proceedings, provisions are outlined to address tie votes. Specifically, if an equal number of votes are cast in favor of two opposing sides, the chairman's decisive vote will determine the outcome.

Moreover, this bill introduces language updates, replacing the term "minor" with "child" in certain provisions, aligning legal terminology with contemporary usage and ensuring clarity in legal interpretation.

Previously, the Village Court Act of 2013 had empowered village courts to impose fines up to Tk 75,000. The latest amendment reflects a continued commitment to enhancing access to justice and streamlining the resolution of minor disputes in rural areas.

The Village Courts Ordinance of 1976 initially established these courts to facilitate the prompt and efficient settlement of local disputes. Subsequent legislative updates, including the Village Courts Act of 2006 and subsequent amendments in 2013, have modernized and strengthened the legal framework supporting village-level adjudication.

Crackdown on Unregistered Online Portals: Government's Initiative

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Today in parliament, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shantunu Sikdar addressed concerns surrounding the proliferation of unregistered online portals, emphasizing the government's commitment to combatting yellow journalism and misinformation.

Responding to a supplementary question from MJL MP Feroz Ahammed Shapon from Satkhira-1, Minister Sikdar acknowledged the prevalence of unregistered online newspapers in Bangla, which have been criticized for engaging in unethical journalistic practices.

Minister Sikdar expressed deep concern over the rise of what he referred to as "frog umbrella" online portals, highlighting their propagation of yellow journalism rather than responsible journalism.

He underscored the adverse impact of misinformation on society, noting that it not only undermines public trust but also poses challenges for professional journalists striving to uphold ethical standards.

Acknowledging the widespread demand for action against unregistered online portals, Minister Sikdar detailed steps taken by his ministry to address this issue. He emphasized that the initiative to curb these portals stemmed not only from parliamentary inquiries but also from the journalism community itself, which has raised alarm over the detrimental effects of yellow journalism.

Minister Sikdar outlined specific measures, including compiling a comprehensive list of registered and well-established media outlets across electronic and print platforms. This list will be shared with the Bangla Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to facilitate the identification and closure of unregistered portals.

He highlighted the urgency of this action, emphasizing the need to curtail the dissemination of misinformation and harmful content by unregulated online entities.

=-= TENSIONS RISE WITHIN THE PROGRESS PARTY ON THE TOPIC OF POLITICAL PARTIES. =-=
Date: 07/05/2024.

What's happening?

With the recent political reforms, Adwilaur accidentally embraced the legalisation of political parties, ending years of a non-partisan system and democratic centralism. From this legalisation, two large parties formed, among others. The largest of these is the Progress Party. However, fractures are already appearing within the membership as two broad camps have broken out into heated debate and discussion. Should Adwilaur continue with this newfound relationship with political parties? Or should it correct the mistake and return to a non-partisan system?

The case against political parties.

Making up the majority camp, there are the so-called 'Returners', who want to return to a system of non-partisan democracy and democratic centralism, albeit modified to fit with the new federal and presidential structure of the country. Their argument is that Adwilaur was never supposed to embrace political parties, and that the country has always viewed them as divisive bodies that turn people against each other. They state that Adwilaur seeks to create a cooperative democracy, with unified goals, and for that reason, Adwilaur should not accept political parties, and should remove them at once.

The case for political parties.

On the other side of the issue, you will find the so-called 'Reformers', who seek to embrace the political parties, and adopt them as a permanent feature of the Adwilaurian system. They are, however, just slightly in the minority. It would appear that although the Progress Party was quick to form, many of it's members joined in a type of protest, to tear it up from the inside. The Reformers say that political parties would give people additional choices, and that a more competitive democracy might actually be beneficial.

So, what next?

It's uncertain what will happen next. The Progress Party holds a majority in the APA, and many sitting representatives are Returners. It's therefore very possible that legislation could be proposed to return Adwilaur to a non-partisan system, but only time will tell. It's almost certain, that if that does occur, the Reformers will fight back.

Statement on the Historical Annexation of Russian Federatsya’s Territory 08/05/2024

The Government of Dniesteria has undertaken a comprehensive review of the historical events surrounding the annexation of Sakhalin Island by -Empire of Japan- in 1905. This examination has raised significant concerns regarding the conditions under which this annexation was carried out, indicating that it may have occurred under duress.

The principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity are core elements of international law and order, as emphasized in numerous international agreements and resolutions since that time. It is crucial that historical actions, which have long-standing implications on regional stability and national identity, are reassessed to ensure they align with these enduring principles.

Given the historical context and the potential implications of the annexation conducted under duress, Dniesteria calls for a formal review of the circumstances surrounding this event. We believe it is imperative for Russia and Japan to engage in bilateral discussions aimed at addressing the consequences of the 1905 annexation. Such a dialogue should seek to explore avenues for a resolution that respects the rights and aspirations of all affected parties and adheres to the principles of international law.

Dniesteria is prepared to offer its assistance in facilitating such discussions, should it be deemed helpful by both Russia and Japan. We advocate for a resolution that not only acknowledges historical contexts but also fosters reconciliation and peace in the region.

We hope that by addressing these historical issues in a spirit of dialogue and cooperation, we can contribute to the establishment of a lasting peace and respect for international norms.

GEOVISION XXI OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Hey everyone! It's been a long time coming, but it's finally time for another ✨ GEOVISION✨ ! Edition 21, to be exact! 🔥

So since the last regular edition was won by the wonderful Union of Zuid Afrika , we'll host it in South Africa this time! To join, simply send a YouTube link to your song to me by DM on Discord, or by Nationstates telegram. Make sure to send it before Monday, May 13th, to join in on the fun! Let me know if you have any questions, and hope to see as many as possible of you there!

Also, read up on the rules in case you forgot 🙂

WELCOME, to the official, renewed page of GEOVISION!

So, I hear you ask? What's Geovision? Geovision is completely unique to our region! Every so often, roughly 52 days, the winner of the previous Geovision organizes the next Geovision, where all the participants can submit a song that they really like. Then, at the date set by the host, everyone gives points to the other songs. The one who wins gets to host the next Geovision! Let's do a brief FAQ.

Isn't Geovision just like Eurovision?

Yes. In fact, it's exactly like Eurovision. Of course we can't really use the exact same format, so the format is as closely as possible translated to the format of Nationstates.

How do I participate?

Send a song to the host country, in this case, me. I will collect them all and release them altogether on the set date. The set date for the event will be April 17th, 2020. You got until that day, 22 PM CET to submit your song. Don't be late!

Can I send any song?

I'd encourage you to get creative, but the rough answer is yes, you can. Just make sure to keep it friendly and in good spirit.

Does the song have to be from the RL version of my nation?

No. The song can be from anywhere, you are completely free to pick anything you like. If you're Japan, feel free to pick a song that is made in the United States, or vice versa.

So, a few rules to get you started and to make sure everything goes smoothly.

1. The way of giving points is always as follows; you give 12 points to the song you liked most, 10 points to your second most well liked song, 8 to your third. The format would thus be;

12 - Your most favorite song
10 - Your second most favorite
8 - Your third most favorite
7 - Etc
6 - Etc
5 - Etc
4 - Etc
3 - Etc
2 - Etc
1 - Etc

If there are more participants than points you can give, that means some songs won't get any points. Reality sure is harsh, isn't it? You can't give points to yourself!

2. Politics are banned. This is a community event. We can still play as our nations, but judge a nation on their song, not on your IC relations with them. For example, I can still give my friend, the Soviet Union, 12 points if I liked his song, despite my cold relations with the nation. The song is what counts!

3. The nation that wins the song contest will be the next host.

4. The song contest will find place 52 days after the previous one. The host should release the songs 7 days after they announce the contest. Just observe me this competition, it will surely help you if you have any question and if you are the next host.

5. Have fun, give it your all, and go win this thing. If you have any questions, send me a telegram over NationStates or DM Me (@Infiniya#6739) on Discord. Good luck!

HELP! ONE OF MY PARTICIPANTS DIDN'T SUBMIT THEIR VOTE!
Yeah, it's very annoying, that's a thing that happens. Don't worry, there is an easy way around it.

Let's look at an example.

There are 6 nations participating, 5 of them have voted. The ranking would look like this (I'm just taking examples here)

1. The United Examples - 44 pts - VOTED
2. The Republican Samples - 39 pts - VOTED
3. The Illustrative Empire - 24 pts - VOTED
4. The Halidom of Examplification - 20 pts - DID NOT VOTE
5. The Archetype Confederacy - 18 pts - VOTED
6. The Federation of Patterns - 11 pts - VOTED

Looks like the naughty Halidom of Examplification did not vote. But all the others voted on the existing entries - theirs included! Here's what you do.

FIRST, just count the votes as you always would. Don't count the vote of nations that failed to submit their votes before the deadline.
SECOND, remove the nations that failed to submit their votes in time from the list that you created in step one.

Presto. Your list now excludes the nation that failed to submit its votes, without altering the voting patterns of the people who voted!
