Scientists would disagree with your bizarre Liberian/American/Bahamanian temperature scale!

It's been a bit since I posted on here, due to my life being really busy, so we're going to play a fun game of two truths and a lie (except it's three truths and a lie because a lot has happened recently)! Winner gets a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes. Right. Here we go!
1: I learned Pachelbel's Canon and got paid $400 for it
2: I slipped on ice and sprained my ankle
3: The store I worked at got robbed, and I was almost a prime suspect
4: I got accepted to do missionary work for 10 months next year

Edit: It's late and I don't want to give it away right away, so... Suspense!

True
Perhaps we should add a Penguin Season

actually what we need is for snow to fall and not melt without it having to be cold, nor being ourselves dependent on personal vehicles for transportation.
rotary snow plows are fun to watch. just don't stand too close on the side they're throwing toward.

when i was little 73 was too warm. but that was before i knew it was possible to not wear underware. in those days i thought the high 60s, 67-70 was just right.
farinhight that is. not sure exatly what that would translate to in centigrade.

cold outside is ok when you don't have to be out in it. in all fairness of course, someone always does, for one reason or another, until the day when we can have everything we don't enjoy done by self acting mechanical marvels. ones that aren't bothered by it. if that were entirely likely.

transportation and energy being the two 'shows' that 'must go on'.

Orville vs STD - Showdown part 2!
*cues bongos*

As the second seasons of both these shows kick off, I myself was mighty curious as to which direction each of them was now going.

I got mostly what I expected.

For STD (or DSC as *they* seem to want it) seems to not be quite certain what show it wants to be. With the first season remniscient of Enterprise seasons 3 and 4, and a bit of DS9 Dominion War, it was off to a rocky start. I mean cmon, they had Pike introduce some of the characters by name for the first time after a whole season! (Good job screenwriters; that's how it's done)

Speaking of Pike, he was one of the only people they could bring in where we wouldn't be wondering "is he gonna backstab?"

By using the success of precious Star Trek characters like Spock and his family, along with Pike, I feel like the writers decided to ignore the mess that was season one, and try to make the show more lighthearted, using Pike as a 4th wall breaker without actually having to. (I also really hate that this show couldn't just take place in the new Trek universe that the new movies are in, and leave the universe the better Treks take place in alone. Continuity is a flummery and I don't think they can give a good reason as to why we never hear about the events of this show during ToS or anything canonically taking place later)

The people focused scenes also seemed to fall flat. Although the ones with Spock's father, Sarek and Michael were actually good, Stamitz and Tilly's scene, along with Michael and Tilly's scene kind of fell flat to me; something seemed missing and I wish I knew what.

Needless to say my expectations were low, and maybe I shouldn't set them so low because then you get what you wish for (that's a fallacy, I know it) but here we are regardless. They need to figure out what they want to do, and for goodness sake, keep it consistent!

As for The Orville however, I was eagerly awaiting this second season, and hoo boy; that's how you kick off a show.

Seth has impressed the pillion out of me with the level of detail and meaning that comes out of the moments that are meant to be impact full. The interactions are funny, relatable, and most importantly, play off as genuine; people are talking much like people nowadays would, which is something STD seemed to lack in most side characters. (They are improving that however; power to them)

While being a Billy Joel fan may give me a bias towards what media is used to help convey a message, I still believe the twists we get from The Orville don't come off as predictable, (no one saw that coming AT ALL) but you know they were planned and weren't just thrown in "because" (the actress who plays Teleya is the same actress the one who plays Tyler, and her name isn't in the shows starting credits).

The handling of a main character who can no longer act in the show was done very well. It felt very natural, and because it had been known for a while that the actress playing Alara had a scheduling conflict she would be off The Orville, they were able to make a wonderful episode about the importance of families and letting people choose their own paths (again with a twist no one saw coming)

Not to mention getting Robert Picardo and John Billingsley in your Star Trek homage show is impressive, and I think shows the level of dedication everyone working on The Orville has to making their version unique in its modern, slightly crass way sometimes, but still hold a candle to the pop culture that inspired it. Old Trek actors are always a win (thanks Belloq for the laugh as well).

Needless to say, I look forward to both these show's next seasons, because meaningful entertainment (and sci-fi) is my life. Sorry for the bad formatting; mobile doesn't make it easy.

Yeah, I am sure it is not 1, at least. It is too specific for anyone to make up.

By the way, this 2 truths & 1 lie game always reminds me what a dull life I have. We had a mini-orientation session when I first started with the PhD program, where second-year grad students gave us some tips. At one point they suggested that we (my cohort, that is) play this game - that's how I realized there was nothing remotely interesting going on in my life. Because people were like:

-I have had a newspaper article published about me in New Zealand when I was an exchange student there
-I am a certified salsa instructor
-I once almost died during a rafting tour in the Grand Canyon

and I was like

O.o

Err... I can bake cookies?

I am gonna guess option 2. The rest of them sound too fake to be lies.

I dunno, pal. Canaltia lives in Canada, so slipping on ice must be a part of their daily life. I thought it was too plausible to be untrue :P

Ah, but how can he be Canadian if he actually slipped on the ice?

Slipping on ice is fun.

Then it hurts.

Frieden-und Freudenland wrote:A young Canadian who has yet to gain more experience with ice-coated sidewalks to learn how not to slip.

I bashed up my knee rather badly slipping on ice in Phoenix, AZ, USA because I was not expecting there to be ice and I was rushing to get to a bus stop.

SAME. Just moved into a new apartment myself.

3 is the lie. No one does any robbing in Canada, you just say sorry and that's the end of it.

1. Yankee Candles are my financial kryptonite
2. I'm deathly allergic to bees
3. I have been set on fire before
4. I am the least accomplished of my siblings

You have not been set on fire? I have a few times because I was a pyromaniac in high school. Otherwise, I am guessing 4.

I am going for 2. (I think you are also wrong about 4, but never mind.)

Well, OK, here is my stuff.

1. I once hid in a restroom stall for 40 minutes to avoid getting vaccinated.
2. I once jumped on a table to see Erdogan at a "casual rally" in a holiday resort.
3. I once came across Senator Elizabeth Warren during a morning walk in Boston, but didn't recognize her until my friend nudged me after she walked past us.
4. I never had any pets.

Three truths and a lie:

1. I'm going to major in political science and afterward get my law degree.
2. I'm politically affiliated with the Republican Party.
3. I've been dating my boyfriend for over six months.
4. I prefer warm weather rather than cold weather.
