Fun fact: from 1904 to 2006 Montenegro and Japan have technically been at war

Amateurs. Russia and Japan have not signed WWII peace treaty ever so far 💅🏻

Einswenn wrote:Amateurs. Russia and Japan have not signed WWII peace treaty ever so far 💅🏻

Russia is so democratic that any peace treaty with Japan was voted down

Laver Island wrote:Russia is so democratic that any peace treaty with Japan was voted down

Yes in the best demokrasi in the world people vote for international political decisions because people represent the county and it’s a shame to have just one person ”chosen” to represent the nation like in the fake-demokrasi western states

Rivierenland wrote:Tomorrow? Ours is today 🎊🎊🎊

Ours is on the 8th
And it is not being celebrated with a holiday smh

No anti-Nazi holiday? ; - ;

Yahlia wrote:No anti-Nazi holiday? ; - ;

Nah, unfortunately. DDR had it as a public holiday (once again, when we acceded, we should have had a look which good things we could take over from DDR, and not just take everything from the western side...), BRD has been debating for ages (with CDU people saying 'funny' things like 'You don't celebrate defeats'...)
It is a 'day of remembrance' in some states, but hat doesn't mean anything, really. Last year, it was a one-time public holiday in Berlin (75 years).

Russia celebrates it annually as one of the largest nationwide holidays with military parades and lots of other stuff which is sceptically received by the public because it turned into something too bureaucratic and unnecessary large & expensive. It’s a huge part of modern revamped nationalist propaganda, quite cynical in a way because it’s not only to mourn the victims and promote peace anymore

As many living WW2 veterans complain, they don’t want to see the latest weapons of mass destruction marching on the Red Square because they don’t want the war machine to be promoted and honoured; besides it triggers painful memories. And I do agree with them because imo it would be better to have it as a true Peace Day instead of constant reminder that “we still can kick world’s arses” or “the evil Germans were defeated”

"You don't celebrate defeats"
Yiiiiikes 💀

My neighbourhood is covered in flags lmao

Laver Island wrote:"You don't celebrate defeats"

Yeah that was in the 70s so CDU were probably still all Nazis themselves but I wouldn't put it past some CDU people today to say similar things and AfD says those things constantly, of course

What celebration are you all talking about?

Anglonica wrote:What celebration are you all talking about?

Befrielsesdagen

I didn't know you moved to the USA. 🤔

Kanokla wrote:I didn't know you moved to the USA. 🤔

Oh but Danes go crazy on flagdagene (and on birthdays for some reason)

Kanokla wrote:I didn't know you moved to the USA. 🤔

Denmark is a flag loving country, I see them daily but on special days like today they are EVERYWHERE
On busses, every yard you can see, public places people gather will have them if they don't have them daily etc

The liberation of Denmark from the Nazis, that's a good thing, no?

I better see some more of the old RMB crew join this 🔪
