The Government of Zimbabwe has commissioned a new medallion to be awarded to Zimbabwean and Allied combatants in light of the recent victory at Chirundu against Bro'Kinaban forces, to be known as The Chirundu Star.

Referendum Day

Yesterday the citizens of Darraghen went to ballot stations in church’s and community centres to decide the future of their country. The options presented to them were to remain a fully independent state or become a semi autonomous protectorate of the British Empire.

The proposal was set in motion by instability on the continent, ethnic tensions and lack of reconciliatory action by other nations which could easily overwhelm the small state.

Local media interviewed speakers both for and against the motion, but the consistent message from all was this must but a decision made by our own people and not an outside influence.

Footage of queues for the ballot showed a largely cheerful mood with live music and street entertainers providing some amusement for those waiting to vote.

The voting turn out was 89%
The votes in favour of becoming a protectorate was 69%
The votes in favour of remaining a independent republic was 29%
The votes spoiled was 2%.

Darraghen will become a protectorate.

A crowd gathered in Trenchard Square to let loose blue and red balloons and sang God Save The King.

The first issues for parliament to address tomorrow will be developing the site of former RAF Darraghen to improve the local economy - the popular choice seeming to be a civil airport. The status of refugees from the conflict in Africa - providing homes, care and citizenship. And an investigation into how the Protectorate can influence other nations to step back from the conflicts and find a last resolution.

It’s true. And whatever action you take, everyone assumes you’ve adopted the opposing side.

Presently people are invading Zimbabwe while Zimbabwe is also invading Shariq. Adding more soldiers to either faction isn’t going to make a difference. There needs to be a ceasefire across all fronts and then discussion.

But nobody wants to loose face or make the first move.

It seems to the case that those who support Katanga are generally anti communist states, western leaning settler colonies, or conservative nationalist regimes. They believe themselves to be defenders of western civilisation calling attention to the presence of communism in Africa and the alleged abuses of power within the various post colonial states as they seek to redefine their national identities and reconfigure balances of wealth and power previously entrenched in more affluent communities on the basis of colour, race, and ethnicity which they see as an existential threat to their legacies.

Those who support Zimbabwe are usually non aligned states or African nations where left wing nationalists, social democrats, and communists generally have hold some degree of power. They tend to see themselves as standing in solidarity with the plight and aspirations of Zimbabwe while also counteracting western attempts at eroding the foundations of the post colonial order in Africa having seen the disasterous effects of regime change across the continent recently. They also understand Zimbabwe to be a multi racial parliamentary democracy, committed to social justice, and peace despite its embattled and defensive posture.

Even though Upper Voltania is a small but populous country with an emerging economy, we would be happy to send humanitarian aid to the two sides, and especially to those people who suffered greatly during the war from the two countries. At the moment, we do not support anyone, the worst thing in wars is that only innocent people who are looking for salvation die.
