Lumipang Cultural Immersion Opportunity

The Department of Culture along with the Department of Education are honored to formally announce the creation of the Lumipang Foreign Born Cultural Immersion Opportunity. This opportunity was formed as a joint project between both departments to invest in the future of foreign-born filipinos and filipino families residing in foreign countries and immerse them in the native cultures of their ancestral homeland. This opportunity is primarily for foreign-born filipinos who have been born and/or raised in another country to return to their own or their ancestors homeland and get to experience and learn about Lumipang firsthand. The program is intended for students in junior high/high school or university as well as others of university age but not currently attending. The Dep. of Culture and Dep. of Education have organized the program to be run through five local universities with additional assistance and support from volunteers of the Manila-based Filipino Cultural Association. The students will study their current courses depending on their grade and age alongside the cultural immersion program. The program will include Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano and Hiligaynon language studies, traditional dance and music events, trips to see cultural monuments, museums & parks, traditional cuisine and cooking classes, engaging in local holiday celebrations, religious studies and trips to local churches, community events and more. The students will get to put their language immersion classes to the test in daily interactions with locals. The program will be financed through the Dep. of Culture and the Dep. of Education as well as private donations and a general tuition fee. The cultural immersion experience will last about nine months or one school year. The students and/or their parents can choose from one of the five program routes to pursue. Each opportunity will have the same basic opportunities but varies in location and local cultural experiences.
