SICO announces new phone line, Nile XENO

April 2, Asyut - Newly nationalized smartphone company SICO has today announced that it will launch a new phone line by the end of the year. The Nile XENO is going to be targeting low and middle income Egyptian consumers with a price starting from LE 2,000 up to LE4200 ($127 - $250). LE 400 million ($25 million) has been pumped into SICO to develop this new phone and the state owned company is expecting LE 1.2 billion ($76 million) in initial sales, more than doubling to LE 2.5 billion ($159 million) in the following three years

The full spec Nile XENO is expected to have an octa core CPU, 8GB RAM, a 48MP quad camera, 128GB in storage, 4200 mAh battery, and a 1080p 6.4 inch sized display screen. This version is expected to cost somewhere near LE 4000.

A more price friendly version, the Nile XENO Lite, offers a more modest spec. A slightly slower octa core CPU, 4GB RAM, 64GB in storage, a 4000 mAh battery, and a 720p 6.5 inch sized display screen. This version meanwhile is slated to cost around LE 2000.

SICO's current market share is around 2.7 percent, the company expects to reach 6 percent by the end of the year following the release of the Nile XENO and 10 percent the following year and around 17 percent in three years.

Ministry of Culture announces the formation of Film Masr Studio, three movies to be released by next year from the new studio

April 2, Giza - The Ministry of Culture today issued a statement announcing the formation of Film Masr Studio, as a result of the merger between all of the state owned film studios. As a result of the merger, Film Masr Studio is technically the largest studio of Egypt.

The ministry also announced that three movies are already in production and will be released next year. Some of the movies details has been released, and of particular interest is that all three movies have a military officer as the main character.

Statue of Jamal Abdel Nasser to be built in front of Cairo University

April 2, Cairo - A nine-metre-tall bronze statue of former Egyptian president Jamal Abdel Nasser has been commissioned by the Egyptian government, and is to be placed in front of the Cairo University. The 9m tall statue will weigh around 3.5 tons and is expected to finished in around 6 months. It will cost around LE8 million ($500k).
