Hello friends!

Here’s a bit of a shaggy dog story, but it also reflects, I think, what was happening in the UK last Thursday.

An English lord goes on a walking holiday giving his butler his itinerary so in case of emergencies he can be contacted. Two days into his trip he gets a telegram from his butler saying “Your cat, Mittens, is dead”

When he returns home he dresses his butler down, saying he should have broken the news about Mittens more gently. For example the first telegram should have read “Mittens is on the roof and won’t come down”. Then the next telegram should say “Mittens has fallen and is very poorly”. Then the bad news should be broken “Mittens has unfortunately passed away”. The butler, suitably chastened, agrees to do this in the future.

The next year the lord is away on another trip when he gets a telegram saying “Your mother is on the roof and won’t come down”.

And that’s what it felt like last week.

Don't worry. Once you get a few going it's easy to transfer them off the others

I'll think about that. My original purpose for being here was just to communicate my puppeteer intentions and assure you all I had nothing planned but that seemed to have evolved

Also, thanks for linking the rules - that's much easier to find than the pinned dispatches you usually just scroll past.
