The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 19.13 billion Surrealists are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The large, corrupt government juggles the competing demands of Industry, Administration, and Education. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Entropea. The average income tax rate is 65.3%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Ticheotisian economy, worth a remarkable 2,530 trillion euros a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. A light breeze is enough to make Leader fold, Dàguó lanterns outnumber streetlights in major cities, a decrease in wailing and gnashing of teeth at astronomical events is reducing demand for dentistry, and even the lowest-level cheesemongers are required to pass Ticheotisian Literature IV. Crime, especially youth-related, is pervasive, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. Ticheotis's national animal is the monkey, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
