The Democratic Republic of Pogenia is a very large, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its compulsory military service, irreverence towards religion, and stringent health and safety legislation. The cynical population of 260 million Pogenis are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, socially-minded, well-organized morass — juggles the competing demands of Welfare, Defense, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 75.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but stagnant Pogeni economy, worth 1.59 trillion Danars a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is quite specialized, is led by the Trout Farming industry, with major contributions from Cheese Exports, Pizza Delivery, and Uranium Mining. Average income is 6,123 Danars, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Pogenia's national animal is the Pogeni Bison, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Pogenia is ranked 64,266^th in the world and 6^th in Lucent for Safest, scoring 98.33 on the Bubble-Rapp Safety Rating.
