The Republic of A Thousand Wings is a mammoth, safe nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, frequent executions, and stringent health and safety legislation. The hard-nosed, devout population of 8.075 billion Thousand Wingsians are prohibited from doing almost everything except voting, which they do timidly and conservatively.

The large, moralistic, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Administration. The average income tax rate is 44.9%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The large but inefficient Thousand Wingsian economy, worth 275 trillion kronor a year, is led by the Information Technology industry, with significant contributions from Woodchip Exports, Uranium Mining, and Automobile Manufacturing. Black market activity is notable. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 34,146 kronor, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Lending money has become a major liability, anti-vaxxers claim that injected children are prone to psychotic breaks when they see the 'Queen of Diamonds' playing card, politicians bribe ten-year-old geniuses to sit their aptitude tests, and radio stations are forbidden to play anything with too much drum or bass. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. A Thousand Wings's national animal is the panther, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

A Thousand Wings is ranked 223,078^th in the world and 674^th in Prison for Highest Unexpected Death Rate, scoring 29.96 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
