No, it is never "the right thing" to drop a nuclear bomb, especially it is not right to drop bombs on civilians. One could argue, that Truman saved the lifes of American soldiers and that this was his duty as POTUS. He would still have to answer the question, why he did not drop the bomb at sea, as a show of force, to reduce the loss of life. Was it necessary to destroy two cities and to kill much more than 200.000 people? I don't think so. The fact, that the facist regime in Tokyo was not eager to surrender after the Hiroshima event, can not be an argument for the immediate dropping of a nuclear bomb over a dense populated area. It was another act of inhumanity in a long row of inhuman acts.
