Defense Ministry: $11.2 billion USD military arms acquisition deal signed with France to purchase 20 Dassault Mirage X fighters, 20 Dassault nEUROn attack drones and 11 FRMM frigates

| Defense Minister and Chief of the Defense Staff Nadia Calvino announced a $11.2 billion USD military arms acquisition deal with France, with Spain purchasing 20 Dassault Mirage X multirole stealth fighters, 20 Dassault nEUROn attack drones with the capability to work with the Mirage X's electronics system, and 11 FREMM (European Multi-purpose Frigates) frigates. The new arms acquisition for the Spanish Armed Forces supposedly closes the Madrid Military Modernization Program, going almost $2 billion USD overbudget, but some allege that the Spanish government plans to finance the construction of 2 S-80 class Spanish attack submarines for an additional $2.2 billion USD. |

| To accompany the new stealth fighter purchase, the Juan Carlos I amphibious assault ship will be brought back to the Valencia naval facility in order to make modifications to the ship to allow it to launch, land, hold, and sustain 20 Dassault Mirage X fighters. Alternatively, the ship will be able to carry 20 Eurofighter Typhoons or 20 F/A-18 Super Hornets after modifications are made. |
