”Welcome gentlemen!” A Greying General stands in front of the men as he speaks, an unlit cigar sits on his table. “This is finally the day for our grand operation. Operation Gold-Baker. This operation has been crafted by high command and sent to us here in the field. And it’s the job of this division to head for Espener, the capital of the State of Espen, as I am sure you all know. This operation will be a mix of airborne action and ground assaults into the Federal Controlled territory, it is of vital importance we carry our own weight...” He pulls down a map and begins to point. “Marcus, I want you to take your Regiment to the south, find and eliminate any Federal Elements that you encounter on your way... Johnson you and your men are going to Iriston. Take the County seat and continue your push through the center until you reach Espener and begin to attempt to seize the city... Finally Jackson, you and your boys take the North. Go through the Hemingway Forest. Wrap up and Federals you see there... Remember your attacks will be covered by the air and more ground forces along our whole front line. I am giving you lot full freedom to proceed as you will. Make the best tactical decisions with the information you have. It is important that we get this right people! Move out!”

“Aye Commandant!” A collective response.

The commanders leave to brief their men. They knew they would have to get this right if they wanted to end the war soon. Some had concerns about the plan, others on grand strategy overall. But none voiced it. Merigould has known nothing but attack in the war so far, and they are going to continue to push the Federals back.
