FOREIGN MINISTRY: IPDEC AND JAPAN TO CONDUCT JOINT NAVAL DRILLS NEAR NORTH BORNEO TO ENSURE CONTINUATION OF PEACE IN ASIA

In the Chancellery's first move in relation to their new foreign policy, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry announced a series of joint naval drills between the Empire of Japan and the Indo-Pacific Defense and Economic Collective (IPDEC). The announcement came as a result of renewed Japan-Korea tensions, after Seoul labelled the Japanese control of North Borneo an occupation, sparking renewed tensions and the possibility of armed conflict. In order to maintain peace and stability in the region, the IPDEC has agreed to a series of joint naval drills in the seas around North Borneo, the Japanese territory at the center of the current situation. The Empire of Japan will mobilize 20 warships to participate in the exercise, Indonesia 30 warships, while other IPDEC nations continue to deliberate their warship numbers. Indonesia's INS Fajar aircraft carrier will be participating in the exercise, as well as some of the country's strongest naval vessels. The Foreign Ministry has urged Seoul and Tokyo to reconcile 'before its too late', while the High Chancellor, Anetta Komarudin, maintains the fact that the naval drills are only to consolidate peace and prosperity in the region. Foreign Minister Reto Marsudi said, 'these naval drills with the Empire of Japan will not only secure the continuation of peace in the region, but it will also warm relations between Japan and the IPDEC. We will show the world that we can work together, and set aside our differences'. Although Indonesia is apparently siding with Japan, Jakarta still hopes to maintain friendly relations with Seoul.
