INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT, DEFENSE MINISTRY SIGN $2.1 BILLION USD CONSTRUCTION DEAL WITH MAJOR CONTRACTORS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF 15 NEW MULTIPURPOSE MILITARY BASES AND PORTS

As part of the Indonesian military's rapid expansion and reform program, the Indonesian government and the Defense Ministry signed a $2.1 billion USD construction deal with major land development contractors for the development and construction of 15 new 'Multipurpose Military Installations', which include 5 military ports. The installations will be built over a five year period, and will be supplemented by infrastructure projects and will create hundreds of thousands of jobs for the unemployed. The new military base design, known as Multipurpose Military Installations, plans to mix an army base with an air force base, creating a large joint military complex. Port facilities for the navy will also be mixed with air force bases. All bases will be capable of holding up to 20,000 troops, as well as 250 fighter jets and their respective support staff and equipment. The bases will be located nearby military factory complexes as well as rural villages prone to terrorist strikes. The Indonesian government has also allowed Bangladeshi and Philippine contractors in the nation to assist in the construction projects, with the goal of creating up to 250,000 new jobs within the coming months. New, top-of-the-line military ports are also planned, with new shipbuilding facilities as well as the ability to transform into a civilian port in times of crisis. The government is also allotting $350 million USD for the upgrading of civilian naval ports, with plans to give them the ability to accommodate military-grade shipbuilding as well as Navy vessels. The Indonesian Navy is also planning to further reorganize the fleets, planning the creation of at least 8 more smaller fleets to add to the current naval forces. New air force facilities are also being developed to accommodate modern fighters being bought by the military.
