Most of us Indonesians don’t consider ourselves Malay lol. Not to start a debate or anything but in Indonesia, Malay is a specific ethnic group living in Sumatra (not an entire race). The ethnic majority of Indonesia, the Javanese, are quite different culturally from the Malays (for example, Islam isn’t as intrinsically tied to the Javanese identity as it is to the Malay identity). And if you’re talking about the ethnic groups in Sumatra related to the Malays (like the Minangkabau), they don’t really identify as Malay either.
I’m not saying this to incite a problem lol, just be careful when saying that Indonesians are Malay in Indonesian communities. That’ll raise a few eyebrows.
