So, random question... Do you guide your nation as you feel is "right"? OR Do you play it at a whim, somewhat randomly? OR Something else?

Absurdly long snake furby covered in glitter and barbed wire that randomly quotes the old testament bible verses in the shaw shank redemption narrator voice.

Dude..
"Right" as in American political leanings, or as in correct/true?
I play my nation as close to my personal/political/humanistic/scientific ideals as possible. Sometimes the game catches me with unintended issue consequences, but short of posting to the International Incidents Forum (which is coming shortly, I assure you) I play it pretty close to the chest.

How do we run our nations? I will act as though you are asking me specifically, if that is okay with you?
The idea of running anything haphazard is ridiculous. This state started and I had hardly made even a few choices offered up by the advisory board and I despises most choices so I had to start posting my own and the site locked all my dispatches and made it nearly impossible to make any changes. I am happy with Deerfield cove at this point after resurrecting it and I will continue to build it and make choices like i would make normally. I am personally just learning how to use the site so it is difficult at best and I only have a poor quality android phone with a cracked screen.
What about you? Do you run your country on purpose or like a joke?
Do you make your own decisions or follow the advice of the advisors?
How long have you been playing?
Do you spend time building the history and the details in your factbook?
How often to you log in to resolve issues? Do cause your people strife or bless them with gifts?
Have you ever tried building your own region?
I play just about as casually as possible. I log in every 3-5 hours, look around the WA, dig through expenditures, try to pass new legislation, and don't think too much on it. I see it more of a fictional experiment vs a simulation if that makes sense.
Deerfield cove and Mondie
Oatmeal. Or as we called it in the surrealist clown circus where I was raised, goatmeal.

What if you knew that what you do with your state actually effects entire populations?
Would you change your habits?
probably but i kinda like mass murdering millions of civilians so my tactics wouldnt change
though the murdering is mostly saved for my other civ Russias back
I mean, look at the nation I'm running. Answer your question?
I select the first issue in all cases.
Krovia, Luna State, and Mondie
I construct a lore for my nation around its statistics, and then try to answer issues to affect the statistics in a suitable way for that lore.
Things got a little crazier once my population statistic exceeded what was reasonable for a single planet without excessive urbanisation. That was a while ago, and it has only become weirder.

Im Back from The Dead Again
Although NS is a bit tricky with this, I always try to make decisions based mostly on what an ideal population would look like for me, but also leaving some wiggle room when when it comes to the economy.

I like it
Originally I guided my nation as I would actually run a country. After a 101% tax rate and other crazy statistics being effected in silly ways I eventually took to answering questions like a very tired immortal ruler who is obsessed with order but occasionally gets exhausted and chooses the wacky answer just for a change of pace.
Krovia, Luna State, and The Gelseen Hegemony
Strangely enough we both have a Father Knows Best State
Yeah I completely ID with what you're saying, I remember when I first started with TGH, I had this unreasonable fixation on Militarism, and Sci Adv, for a while it worked okay, but sooner or later I ended up with a ridiculous black market problem, 50% taxation rate, terrible environment, ect ect, after a while I became a little more compromising, I let up on the Defense Forces, and things started to fall together way more nicely.
Like I said before, I am literally just trying to make the scariest most absolutely terrifying and dilapidated nation I possibly can. So far i have human sacrifice, nuclear weapons, compulsory nudity+ encouraged harassment and legal restaurants that sell human flesh. I love this game
