He was very close with all his fellow drivers, often putting himself in a lot of danger just to help them, such as during qualifying for the 1992 Belgian Grand Prix, when he ran onto a live racetrack to save his friend Erik Comas after a bad crash that knocked him unconscious with his engine still running. Had it not been for Senna, Comas would've died. Unfortunately Comas, despite his attempts, was not able to help Senna after his fatal crash.

His last days were very rough for him, he was distraught after the death of Roland Ratzenberger during the qualifying session for the San Marino Grand Prix. He was nearly convinced by Professor Sid Watkins, the head FIA medical professional, to give it all up and go fishing instead of racing. Senna wanted to honour Roland by winning the race and waving the Austrian (Roland was Austrian) flag at the end of the race but he would never see the end of that race.
