It was the 25th of March 1953, a day which would stand in infamy and revelation in any history book written past this date. Trembling hands hold a pen, about to sign a document entitled simply, "A Joint Declaration of the Twin Republics of Aeterna and Elansir". Perhaps the man signing these documents would not know then what this paper, the Twin Republics, and himself would accomplish then, but he certainly would realize it as he wrote his name over the dotted lines. His political equal, as nervous as he was, would take his pen and sign a few centimeters underneath the first man's name. Days later, the ruling monarchy in the Kingdom of Calena declared this illegal, and as is a common theme in history, there was war. But this was no ordinary war, this was a Revolution. A Revolution not of the aristocracy, and the elite classes, as those previous years of unrest had been; it was a Liberation of the People. Following the idealistic leadership of the National Salvation Movement, whose November Uprising had been brutally crushed by local government and foreign collusion, the Twin Republics rang the death knell of a dying Kingdom. The ring of one bell of Liberation echoed across the Eastern Continent, and millions cried out in return. Death to the old order-- War on the Old World! A war on not only the Kingdom, but on the systems which guaranteed the prosperity of the rich and powerful at the expense of the weak underclass, the systems which perpetuated the suffering of the people. The Twin Republics called their new land, Iridyia. A land of Hope. For on that day a New World was born, and it would conquer the Old World; it would thoroughly destroy it, rip it to shreds as mankind itself cried for liberation. The first torch of Liberationism had been lit, and already the forces of the Old World stand to oppose it. When the New World was at its weakest, a Grand Coalition halfway across the planet was formed to stop it. The torch-bearers were outnumbered, outmatched, and outgunned--but they persisted. So the Grand Coalition fell too before the cries of Liberty. No longer would Man be shacked by his so-called superiors; no longer could the Old World trample upon his spirit. The first cry for freedom had been raised, and the world will bow before the undying will of the common Man. It is our final demand, and for this we will pay in life and blood. For a New World stands before us, brilliant and glorious. The oppressor looks on with fear and despair, and we march on with the knowledge that: Victory is Inevitable. Iridyia will reign Supreme over a world, Liberated from its Tyrants.
IRIDYIA Victory is inevitable. Liberation must be achieved. These are the two phrases by which the Presidents of the Republic of Iridyia have lived and died by--they were the two that brought the modern state of Iridyia into existence, cleaving it from the corrupt Kingdom of Calena as the Twin Republics of Aeterna and Elansir, the two that inspired the First Shot of the Revolution on a fateful November. Even today, the words hang on the walls of the Presidential Office, penned by the Great President, Nikolai Kasanyov himself. But some feel that the modern Iridyia has strayed from its goals, going from the militarist and ideological purist state that conquered the Grand Coalition to a weak, diplomatically-focused one. Yet others prey on the reforms introduced in the postbellum Republic, the democratization of the United Assembly and the releasing of emergency powers allowing "revisionist" voices to speak freely. That the Iridyian nation has fallen is far from a popular opinion, though, and Iridyia maintains its position as the greatest power the world has ever known, with the entire Eastern Continent under its grasp. Owing to ideology, and the legacy of the first pioneers of Iridyian Liberationism, Iridyia has few allies, if any--but being diplomatically isolated had never stopped Iridyia from defeating the Grand Coalition, and it will not stop Iridyia now. The sword is only sheathed, not broken, and it awaits the day of slaughter.  UNITARA KAYARN The Kayarn Union was built from a faction of Communist paramilitary forces, operating as an underground movement against the Vertran Empire's monarchism. Communism as a political theory was essentially born with the Kayarn Forum, at the city that would later become the Union's capital jewel--drawing from the writings of the Eternal Chairman of the National Salvation Movement an ocean away. When the Vertran Empire raised the banner against Iridyia, and started the War of the Grand Coalition, the Forum would almost be wiped out by secret police; but as the Empire slowly began to crumble under the weight of Iridyian military might, the Forum began gathering their own arms and militia. When Vertana, the capital of the Empire fell to Iridyian forces, the Forum saw its time to raise the red banners. With implicit Iridyian support in material and manpower, the revolutionaries began their conquests at the city of Kayarn, and their movement spread like wildfire. Years of wartime taxes and war measures only bred massive resentment against the Imperial government, and the impoverished flocked to the banner of the Union, eager to burn down the Imperial system that had subjugated them for so long. Now they stand as the leader of the Internationale, waiting for the day when the fires of revolution can be lit again, with their military buildup higher than ever and their industry only continuing to expand. The hammer calls; a brighter future for all awaits. CANTAR REPUBLICA The word Cantar means "Center", an accurate depiction of the Republic of the Central Continent. Stuck between two large powers since antiquity, the Axial War finally forced the denizens of the Central Continent to pick a side between the Kingdom of Calena and the Vertran Empire. Eventually, the choice would be made for them, at the decisive Battle of Astrana. The Kingdom of Calena, slowly falling from its former glory, was decisively defeated by the Vertran Empire, and the victorious Northern Kingdom of Lusitrana would follow the Western Continent for the remainder of its history. When the War of the Grand Coalition came, however, the Central Continent became a battleground of not just two rival powers, but a war of ideology itself. Iridyia brought with it not only the destructive roar of artillery, but an equally powerful seedling of democracy, and of revolution. Inspired by the Iridyian government but criticizing it for its dedication to authority, the revolutionaries in the Central Continent vowed to create a free Republic, which could immediately establish liberty for all its citizens. So, with the Rights of Man written into their hearts, they sought only a better world. The Central Continent was quickly liberated by the superior Iridyian armies, and revolutionary tides swept in to fill the void left by the flight of the King of Lusitrana and his royal entourage to the Western Continent. The Republic would proclaim its adversity towards the Vertran Empire, and democratic revolutionaries in the Western Continent woud rise to establish their own freemen's states. These new republics now form the foundation of the Intercontinential Defensive League, with the Republic of the Central Continent as its guiding power. The banner of freedom is raised, and no more will the citizen be subject to anyone but himself.
