As the Karatol-Advenran Escort pulled to the Capitol, Princess Celina and her Guard prepared themselves for their diplomatic mission, the Princess herself steeling her nerves, and adopting a hard to read facial expression that hid her true emotions.

Status and structure [back to contents]
The Parliament of Agausia is the country's supreme representative body which effects legislative authority, determines the main directions of the country's home and foreign policy, controls the activity of the Government within limits defined by the Constitution and exercises other rights. The Parliament of Agausia is a unicameral legislature, and composed of 145 members elected for a term of four years through a mixed system.
Election [back to contents]
The Parliament of Agausia is elected on the basis of universal, free, equal and direct suffrage, by secret ballot. Scheduled parliamentary elections are held on the last Saturday of November of the calendar year in which the term of Parliament expires. In case of the dissolution of the Parliament, elections are called no earlier than the 30th day and no later than the 45th day after the legislature is dissolved.
In order to fill vacancies (for any reason) elections are called no earlier than the 30th day and no later than the 45th day after an MP's seat becomes vacant. When a member of Parliament dies, resigns or become disqualified to hold a seat, a by-election is held in his constituency unless the tenure for the current Parliament is less than one and a half years (548 days), where the seat is simply left vacant until the next general election.
In Agausia to initiate a snap election the president must have consent from the prime minister and after consultations with the parliamentary groups, while the Parliament is in session.
Snap elections should be held no earlier than 30 but no later than 45 days after parliament is dissolved.
Sessions and sittings [back to contents]
The first meeting of the newly elected Parliament is held on first Monday in February after a regularly scheduled election, or no later than the 30th day after the election results have been officially announced in a snap election. The first meeting of Parliament is called by the President of Agausia. The Parliament meets in its official capacity for a regular session twice a year, from the first Monday in February to the second Friday in June and from the first Monday in August to the second Friday in December. In between the sessions, the President can convene an extraordinary session of the Parliament at the request of the Chairperson of Parliament, at least one fourth of members of Parliament or the Government.
The Government, a Member of Parliament, a parliamentary faction, a parliamentary committee, and no less than 7 percent of registered voters have the right of to initiate a bill. A law is adopted if it is supported by a majority of the members of Parliament present but at least 3/5 of the total number of the members of Parliament (87 members). A law passed by Parliament is to be submitted to the President of Agausia within 10 days. The President can sign and promulgate the law or return it to the Parliament with justified remarks within 2 weeks. If the remarks are adopted, the final version of the law is submitted to the President within 5 days, and the latter must sign and promulgate the law within 5 days. If the President's remarks are rejected, the initial version of the law is put to a vote in the Parliament and, if adopted, submitted to the President within 3 days for signature and promulgation. If the President fails to promulgate the law, then the Chairperson of Parliament does this after the respective deadline expires. However, if the president if traveling (nationally or internationally) the initial deadline is extended to no more than 10 days.
Other powers [back to contents]
The Parliament has the power to ratify, denounce and annul international treaties by a majority of the total number of its members. They can also impeach the President [1], a member of the Government, a judge of the Supreme Court, a General Prosecutor, a Audit-General, a member of the Board of the National Bank, and several other Presidential Appointees. A Motion of no confidence requires a simple majority (73/145 MPs). The Parliament can be dissolved by the President of Agausia if the legislature fails to approve the incoming Government in the established time-frame, or at the discretion of the president, but only after consent from the prime minister and after consultations with the parliamentary groups, while the Parliament is in session.
The Agausian parliament can also make changes and amendments to the nation's constitution. A vote on constitutional reforms requires a full session of parliament with all members. The plurality of 3/5ths (at least 87) votes are required to pass an amendment or make changes. MPs are required to cast a vote, meaning that no abstentions are allowed. If a member cannot attend, or chooses not to attend the voting their absence will count as a Nay vote. An absolute majority would be adjusted for any vacancies, unless there is time for a special election in which the vote must wait for the vacancy to be filled. A vote on constitutional reforms cannot be called during extra-parliamentary sessions, or during a caretaker government.
There is a parliamentary trigger that allows for the parliament to send an amendment that does not reach 87 votes, but gets at least a majority (73) to a constitutional referendum.
Chairperson of the Parliament of Agausia [back to contents]
The Parliament of Agausia elects the Chairperson for its term by a majority of the total number of its members by secret ballot, however, the chairperon of Parliament must come from the largest political party represented - even if the party is in opposition. The Chairperson of Parliament presides over the work of Parliament, ensures the free expression of opinion, and signs the acts adopted by Parliament. Most of the time the Chairperson of Parliament also serves as the Party Chair for their respective party. While there is no law or rule mandating this, over the years it has become tradition.

Ah makes sense. I also identify as Libertarian and I only assumed because you were pretty convincing IC. Also, the mule's father bit was funny.
I've been thinking about it too, and wondering what the catalyst would be for Raduo's redemption. Do you have ideas?

Oh, boy. Well...
Ferdinand's characterization. I've already mentioned how I want to revamp his character with him having been a rather terrible guy for the majority of his life and a lackluster father who tried to turn things around with what little time he got. However, considering Easunistan's reputation and Ferdinand being indifferent about what was going on for so long, I'd imagine Raduo would have quite a journey redeeming his family name. He'd have to grapple with raising Georg, exploring the Valist energy and the Aether, and reconciling with learning more about how his dear Uncle wasn't so great and the already existing issues with his Father. I'd really like to see him interacting with Nonites who managed to make it out of Easunistan during his Uncle's Presidency. That, along with what his Father will have to say, definitely gonna leave an impact on how he perceives Ferdinand.
Evening, Euri.

That's the setup. What's the catalyst? What takes him from "hey my uncle did a bunch of bad things and this Valist stuff seems pretty sketchy" to "I am going to do something about that"?

Velza stared in terror as she stuck close to the wall.
Oh, my bad. I think a mixture of taking care of Georg and his time at the congregation should do it. He wants a better world for his nephew and him, not overshadowed by the sins of their Fathers. And interacting and being near the people in Brethren shows him that's possible, and he hears of the pain his family and Nation have caused. And of course, meeting Zach will begin to show him Valism isn't inherently evil over time. That he can do good with the Mark, use it to change things, and remove Izeval's influence. Though that will be a while.
Snow proceeds to reach inside and grab hold of the demon-child like it's just a little doll. She pulls it out of the room and lifts it up to such light as is available from the fading sun, examining it -- yeah, it's a weird one. And that strangely human-like aura still persists.
She waves her tongue at it in a vain attempt to get some clarity. Demon. Tell me why you are here.
:thonk:
Val essence isn't inherently evil, sure, but following Lord Izeval in his current state definitely is.

"Please don't kill me! Please I beg you!" It was a 12 year old Demon. Velza looked up horrified at the Dragon, her Purplish Blue eyes glowing as she did.
Oh, yeah. He definitely WILL be trying to get rid of the Mark (another reason he's going to Brethren in hopes of being able to) up until he meets Zach. He has no intention of following the dude, especially since he's now realizing just what exactly he's gotten himself into. But like I said: after meeting Zach, it'll slowly turn from simply trying to get rid of the Mark to turning his Valist essance against Izeval.
It'll be very interesting to see how he turns Valist essence against . . . the CEO of Valist essence. I immediately thought of Roger Foi-Hellick and how he turned the Etalarche Curse against Alderode, but Im pretty sure you don't read that webcomic so I'll be fascinated to see what form the idea takes in your brain.
Snow groans, rather quietly considering her size. It's a person-demon. Like those horrible fuzzy locusts. Listen, it's clear whatever master you once had has abandoned you, so . . . we might not have to actually kill you. Just tell me what you are and why you're here.
Indeed. Anyway, I'ma head off to bed and continue my actually pretty good sleep schedule.
