Well, you can put an extremely unique spin on it, too. The neat thing about popping up now, in close proximity to established players (my gosh it's weird to think of myself as "established") is that you must have been heavily, heavily isolationist beforehand -- otherwise we'd have had some contact before. That gives you a lot of freedom as far as your own, internal cultural norms.
