In the early stages of trying to write what will likely be a short novella. Post apocalyptic, in a similar vein to Revolution or walking Dead. Working out a very rough timeline leading up to it-

2019-2024 recession
* Economic collapse in Africa, warlords dominate
* Major recession/depression Cent/South America, cartels emerge as political entities
* European recession, countries rally to EU for stability, EU govt grows power
* Chinese economy greatly weakened, govt turner dictatorship to maintain power
* US economy in depression, political strife grows, productions slows greatly
* Global economy highly weakened, international strife grow
* Technological development slows considerably
2024-2027 oil/natural gas dry up
* Oil/ natural gas supplies vastly overestimated, global oil dry up
* Major energy producers hoard reserves
* European/African/SA economic struggle exacerbated by scarcity
* Europe support around (insert name) promising economic success under federation
* Technological advancement stops almost entirely
2027-2030 European collapse
* promised reforms of (insert name) fail, EU dissolved
* NATO dissolved soon after
* Asian/African famine kills millions
* Global tensions continue to grow
* Russia invaded Ukraine, Belarus, Baltic states, arguably beginning of resource wars
* European diplomacy breaks down, increased hostility
* US government increasingly authoritarian
* Fascism and communism begin to get underground support
2030-2036 Early Resource Wars
* Russia invaded the Balkans, annexes rest of Eastern Europe
* Russian hegemony in Europe established
* European states launch various wars
* US invaded Canada and Venezuela for oil reserves, Canada annexed
* US democracy continually cut down on
* China invaded neighbors, annexing Korea
* Africa and South America in total economic collapse, warlords rule Africa, cartels rule South America
* Saudi-Iran Wars collapse Middle East
* Russian govt strained by rebellions, internal strife
* Fascism and communism finds more mainstream support, particularly communism
2036-2044 Late Resource Wars
* US government assumes dictatorial power, violently suppressing dissent
* Russia collapses into civil war, European conflict breaks down further
* Further famines in Africa/Asia kill tens of millions
* Governments in SA collapse totally, cartels and military leaders take local power
* Chinese government increasingly losses control, collapsing into handful of military states and dicatatorships
2044-2050 US collapse
* Russia collapses into various states
* US slowly breaks up into more regional unions, ending the last global power
* World wide local states and warlords gain dominance, global trade and relations essentially ceases
* Technological advances permanently stops at 2010s levels

And that’s the semi-apocalypse we find ourselves in

Only a mild amount, but I know little of European politics outside of normal Brexit stuff.
I just kinda figured in the face of economic depression, they’d turn to a unifying force that has general provided stability. But I mean I showed y’all this for feedback, so I welcome other ideas.

i'm pretty sure that's not how politics works

Favorite band?

The prevailing sentiment that classical is boring is completely unsubstantiated, in my opinion. Listen to Liszt’s Totentanz, for heaven’s sake. Try Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto. Ravel’s La Valse, Beethoven’s Allegretto from Symphony 7, Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata 7, the list goes on and on. After that, come back and tell me if it drones on and on.

Pardon me if I seem a bit aggressive, none of that is directed personally in any way. I assure you I bear you no ill will, I’m merely expressing my dissatisfaction with popular opinions towards classical as a whole, not anyone in particular.

Sounds like quite an interesting read! If you want help figuring out anything else, I’d be happy to help. Just some observations, you seem very keen on the annexation-of-small-countries motif. I find it highly unlikely that nations undergoing enormous sociopolitical upheaval and apocalyptic-level crises would have the strength to go after their neighbors. In order for large-scale governments to exist, I think, they’d have to be in control of their domestic affairs first; for example, you didn’t see America swallowing up countries in the Great Depression, because administering colonies and going to war costs a tremendous amount of money—either warlordism takes root, or countries are stable enough to wage organized wars. There’s not really too much of a middle ground there.

They still sound a bit slow for my tastes, and the 15 minute lengths with very slow parts in between semi-climaxes reminds me very much of post-rock for example, and I also find that genre to drone on.

Annexation was a poor word choice.

Even then, in the early 2030s (Early Resource Wars) much of the “Washington seizing power” was viewed in a similar light as the Patriot Act. Controversial, but justified as necessary for survival. The reason for invading Canada and Venezuela is because between them they have roughly a quarter of the planets oil reserve. Seizing these would be vital for long term supply. Plus many dying Empires get involved in protracted, illadvised military campaigns. Plus I’ve been toying with the US using limited tactical nuclear strikes to eliminate much of their militaries before the war even begins.

I prefer not to call them “very slow parts”, and instead “intensity-building parts”. The Beethoven is a particularly good example of that. Personally, I find ten minutes of pure noise being blasted at the listener to be a great deal less enjoyable then ten minutes of quiet beauty, anyways.

You conflate the cause and effects. Dying empires don’t engage in protracted, ill-advised military campaigns; protracted, ill-advised military campaigns cause empires to die.

Hence the US implodes a decade or so later.

well most genres aren't pure noise, but I see what you mean. Also a big part of music for me is vocals which turns me off of Classic.

Why the RP suddenly died?

Literally all music is just noise, so I’m not sure what either of you mean.

You said you find ten minutes of pure noise unenjoyable, I'm saying most genres aren't super loud and noisey.

Names that start with V and identical read flags, I understand the confusion lmao.

Now tinkering with the idea of airburst pure fusion nukes (which would be almost safe) to help accelerate my apocalypse.

I think I’ll either invert my flag’s colors or make it purple, then.

Casually disregarding centuries’ worth of choral music, both sacred and secular, now aren’t we?

Did some googling about the technological viability of mass production pure fusion nukes. Fifteen minutes into my third nuclear science forum and it dawned on me I know fùck all about nuclear science.

OH I FORGOT SORRY SORRY
HAPPY EASTER!
