Planet 14.

The Apollonians have discovered a new planet in the far reaches of space. Exploration crews have been sent and the planet is covered in snow. The Apollonians scan the planet to discover no signs of intelligent life, The planet seems... dead. The crew have named the planet Necros due to this. The Apollonian shuttles and starships land on the center continent on the planet and occupy a small part of the southern end of the island. With the planet discovered its existence is revealed and Apollonia declares that other nations may claim on its surface.

NECROS, Planet 14

Map of Necros

Necros is a snow covered planet discovered by the Apollonians. The maximum temperature is -8°C/17.6°F. Apollonia has opened the planet up for the rest of the universe to claim parts of.

CLAIMS MUST NOT BE TO LARGE AND MUST BE ROLEPLAYED. Send me a TG of what area you want. No native nations can be formed due to no signs of native life on Necros

Read factbook

A New map has been added to the RP. Please TG me a screenshot of your claims and make a post claiming it.

After some deliberation, I decided to modify the Umaqi Communists by removing their Bedouin/Sahel African inspirations and changing their portion of the planet to be tundras and boreal forests much like IRL Russia instead of deserts and savannahs. I also decided to change them to cockroaches, a species of insect much more suited to their new retconned environment.

I decided that trying to mix the two wildly different aesthetics and cultures of a nomadic Bedouin and generally African vibe with that of Imperial and Soviet Russia just didn't mesh well, especially with a nation of deserts being surrounded by the cold Slavic and Scandinavian countries of Raigut and Ljorfall just didn't make sense geographically, and that the African and Arabic vibes could be played much better as independent nations within the Non-Aligned Movement, which I think desperately needs some love as much of the planet seems to support one side or the other.

On a similar note, I may consider modifying the map to add more nations and thus more variety in terms of culture, politics, and flavor as I feel like the current map is much too restricted and some nations are a bit too large for their current role, history, and position of power.

The Various Nations and Militaries of Varmosa

The United Confederation of Barosa

    Allegiance: Free Nations of Varmosa
    Population: 400 Million
    Government/Ideology: Representative Parliamentary Democracy
    Race: Leafcutter Ants.
    Culture Resemblance: Anglo-American.
Anthem of Barosa: Link No Chains Shall Hold Us

The Barosans lead the vanguard of the democratic nations on Varmosa, being one of the two opposing superpowers currently vying for control of the planet. Descendants of the fireants of Ljorfall, they value freedom, individualism, and resistance to tyranny above all else. Easily the most technologically advanced nation on the planet, they boast a thriving industry and mighty navy as well as the forefront in space exploration on Varmosa.

The Serene Province of Shaletah

    Allegiance: Free Nations of Varmosa
    Population: 20 Million
    Government/Ideology: Provincial Congress, Tribal Confederation
    Race: Beatles
    Culture Resemblance: Native American, Hispanic-American.
Anthem of Shaletah: Link Shaletahn Flag Song

The natives of Shaletah have faced hardship after hardship for centuries. When the ants of Barosa and the mosquitos of Zutaks arrived, they brought with them gunpowder and steel. Diseases that ravaged the land. And cruelty beyond imagination. As the Barosans and Zutaksi moved inland, vicious wars were waged with the Shaletahn natives who became the victims of manipulation, genocides, and displacement. When all of their native lands had fallen under the control of Barosa, only 200,000 Shaletahn people remained, their faith and culture shattered and their language almost scattered to the wind. A deal was struck with Barosa where the Shaletahn were allowed to remain on their island and rule themselves under Barosan jurisdiction. This has led to more corruption and tensions with Barosan settlers, however this has also largely put a stop to the large scale wars and the Shaletahn were able to heal themselves and their culture over the course of decades. Now they thrive in the remains of their homeland, numbering 20 million and living in harmony with the Zonkrelan and Arealan colonists that also call the coastlines home in their island province. Though tensions still remain, they now serve as loyal citizens of Barosa and fight to protect their peoples and their liberty all across the world.

The Commonwealth of Zutaks

    Allegiance: Free Nations of Varmosa
    Population: 16 Million
    Government/Ideology: Parliamentary Democracy, Multi-Party Democracy
    Race: Mosquitos
Culture Resemblance: Canadian, Cascadian, New Englander
Anthem of Zutaks: Link Oh, Zutaks!

Being one of the first places in the new continent of Goloir to be discovered when Ljorfallr explorers crossed the great ocean blue, the land that would become Zutaks was initially settled by the Arealans, who found the area much unlike their more alpine climate back home. Being sold off to the Thruzakans, who were always eager for more land, they flooded colonists into the snowy, heavily forested and mountainous region, who supplied timber and later iron and steel for the Thruzakan Royal Navy. When the Barosans rose up in independence spouting the ideals of the Enlightenment that was rampaging through Glumira and Goloir at the time, the fervor spread to Zutaks as well, who fought alongside the Barosans in throwing off the shackles of imperialism. Though the two nations have remained separate and even had their conflicts at times, the two nations are now staunch friends with a shared culture and history who stand as the founding members of the Free Nations, ready to charge headfirst into the great unknown in the name of freedom and self-determination.

The Enlightened Empire of Thruzak

    Allegiance: Free Nations of Varmosa
    Population: 80 Million.
    Government/Ideology: Enlightened Absolutism, Monarchy.
    Race: Mosquitos.
    Culture Resemblance: Anglo-Germanic
Anthem of Thruzak: Link The Eternal Empire

Though ruled by an absolute monarch in a largely feudal system of governance, the Emperors of Thruzak have historically abided by the tenants of the Enlightenment that gave rise to Barosa, claiming that a firm guiding hand with divine ordainment and knowledge is the best for ensuring liberty and prosperity. Historically ruling much of the continent of Glurmia upon which the country now lives, they have now resigned themselves to the coastal portions of the northwest of the continent since the fall of their empire in the 2660s. Despite the sun long setting upon their empire, they still join the Barosans in the international fight for freedom.

The Grand Republic of Khazuun.

    Allegiance: Free Nations of Varmosa
    Population: 70 Million.
    Government/Ideology: Anti-Authoritarian Republicanism, Moderate Socialism.
    Race: Carpenter Bees
    Culture Resemblance: Romance-Italian

Anthem of Khazuun: Link So Long, My Love.

Recovering from the aftermath of the Great War and a civil war, the Khazuun attempted to join the Zonkrelans in their genocidal, imperialistic crusade across the world. Being quickly fought to a stalemate by the Thruzakans and later navally invaded by the Barosans, they suffered a civil war by Anti-Zonkrelan forces in the country and overthrew the Pro-Zonkrelan government, joining the Free Nations as a new socialist republic. Though technically revering the teachings and ideas of Thain that permeate much of the rivaling People's Union, Khazuuni socialist ideology is much more decentralized and democratic, focusing on slow reform and uplifting of the people through hearts and minds rather than the brutal autocracy and relentless industrialization of the People's Union.

The Republic of Zonkrel (North Zonkrel)

    Allegiance: Free Nations of Varmosa
    Population: 65 Million.
    Government/Ideology: Parliamentary Multi-Party Democracy.
    Race: Wasps/Hornets
Culture Resemblance: Prussian/Imperial Germanic, West Germanic

Anthem of North Zonkrel: Link Virbrook Song.

Devastated by six long years of war and the detonation of an atomic bomb above their capital city, the Zonkrelans are somber and regretful. Reveling in their own self-perceived superiority and right to world domination, the Zonkrelans elected a monster to the office of Chancellor and led a crusade across Glumira that ended in the deaths of 50 million Varmosans from all nations all across the planet. Split into two by the opposing forces of the Free Nations and the People's Union, North Zonkrel became a free democratic republic under joint Free Nations occupation. After several years of aid programs, attempts at rebuilding, and the winning of hearts and minds by the Barosans and their allies, North Zonkrel has grown into a relatively prosperous nation with the ability to defend itself and a willingness to now fight only for freedom and liberation as a means to atone for the sins of their fathers.

The Heavenly Kingdom of Bon'an

    Allegiance: Free Nations of Varmosa
    Population: 850 Million.
Government/Ideology: Divinely-Ordained Kingdom, Mandate of Heaven
    Race: Moths/Butterflies
    Culture Resemblance: Sino-Japanese

Anthem of Bon'an: Link Ordained By Heaven

One of the most fanatic and honor-bound of the Free Nations, the Heavenly Kingdom
are ruled by an Emperor said to be the son of the Wind God Bal'vo. This carefully cultivated aura of divine ordainment and spiritual enlightenment that permeates the Bon'an results in a massive nation of fanatically devoted warriors who would rather die than be captured in battle, even going so far as to slit their own throats or stab their own stomachs to prevent capture. Despite this, they stand for the right of all Varmosans to have to freedom to seek their own path to enlightenment and purpose, free of the tyranny of the People's Union and any other tyrant that may stain the face of the planet.

The United Worker's Republics of Umaq

    Allegiance: Union of People's Republics
    Population: 1.2 Billion
Government/Ideology: Thainist Communism, Authoritarian Autocracy, Cult of Personality
    Race: Ladybugs
Culture Resemblance: Slavic, Imperial Russian, Soviet Russian

Anthem of Umaq: Link State Anthem of the Worker's Republic.

The second of two major opposing superpowers on Varmosa, Umaq lays claim to the largest nation on the planet with the largest population on the planet. Historically, the ladybug-like Umaqi roamed the tundras and boreal forests of Glumira in nomadic livestock herders before settling down in the more hospitable areas of southeast Glumira. Historically ruled by kings and emperors claiming descendance from a great god-king, the 2530s saw the rise of the great Umaqi philosopher Thain, who built upon traditional Umaqi collectivism and huge population to create a new ideology to overthrow the emperors of Umaq, an ideology where the state controls all manners of the economy to fast forward the nation into the modern age, instilling a sense of loyalty and nationalism to home and country that rivalled even Bon'an. After their sudden invasion by the Imperial Reich of Zonkrel, they retaliated hard and helped lead to the unconditional surrender of the nation. Now holding the majority of Glumira, they stand diametrically opposed to Barosa for control of the planet.

The People's Democratic Republic of Ljorfall

    Allegiance: Union of People's Republics
    Population: 30 Million
Government/Ideology: Thainist Communism, Authoritarian Oligarchy, One-Party "Democracy"
    Race: Fireants.
    Culture Resemblance: Nordic/Scandinavian.

Anthem of Ljorfall: Link Ljorfall, Grave of Tyrants

Historically making a living out of the barren wastelands of the southwest coast of Glumira, the Ljorfallr were a terror upon the continents of Glumira and Xio'la during their respective medieval periods. Ruled by Jarls and petty Kings for much of their history, their greatest mark on history was when they united under a great High King in the Great Heathen Army and invaded Thruzak, laying waste to it's coastlines and ravaging the nation for decades until finally being pushed out of the nation, settling in the nearby lands of Barosa where they slowly adapted into the modern-day leafcutter ants of Barosa. In the 2680s, they suffered a violent Thainist revolutionist incited by the neighboring Umaqi, and joined them in the People's Union. Still holding up their traditions of naval trade and warfare, they fight in the name of Thain and their Umaqi masters across the planet.

The Grand Worker's Union of Zonkrel

    Allegiance: Union of People's Republics
    Population: 40 Million
Government/Ideology: Thainist Communism, Authoritarian Oligarchy, One-Party "Democracy"
    Race: Wasps/Hornets
Culture Resemblance: Prussian/Imperial Germanic, East Germanic

Anthem of South Zonkrel: Link The Tyrants Are Marching

South Zonkrel arguably had it worse than their northern counterparts. While North Zonkrel suffered immense bombing campaigns by Thruzak and Barosa, and later an atomic bombing over the capital, they never had to face much of a land invasion by an army of millions of vengeful Umaqi like the South did. After three years of war where the Zonkrelans had never made it to the Umaqi capital, the unending hordes of Umaqi soldiers arose from the dunes of the desert and pushed back into Zonkrelan territory with a patriotism and ferocity that was frankly terrifying to even their allies. Entire cities were burned, women were raped and killed, and captured Zonkrelan soldiers subjected to brutal torture and cruel games. A photo even circulated throughout the international press of an Umaqi squadron forcing a Zonkrelan soldier to play piano for neary 14 hours straight under threat of death if he stopped. Despite the horrible atrocities against their nation, the South Zonkrelans were brainwashed, told that the Barosans and the Free Nations were the cause of all of their suffering. Many who had personally experienced their cruelty knew the truth of course, but when their young began signing up for the Youth Corps and marching out in the streets shouting Thainist slogans and calling for the death of capitalist dogs, they knew they had only just been put under a different flavor of the same authoritarianism that led them here in the first place.

The Worker's Trade Congress of Yalois

    Allegiance: Union of People's Republics
    Population: 70 Million
Government/Ideology: Thainist Communism, Syndicalism, Congress of Trade Unions
    Race: Beetles
    Culture Resemblance: Republican French

Anthem of Yalois: Link When Will It Be Day, Comrade?

The cultural capital of all of Glumira, Yalois was historically a nation of high society. Wine, fine silk robes, and noble balls for as long as the nobility could remember. But this extravagence and arrogance came to a head in the Enlightenment, when Thainist ideology took a hold over the common people of the land. Demonstraters temporarily overthrew the government in 2594 and laid claim to the capital for six months in what was known as the Nedale Commune. Though they were later put-down and the monarchy restored, syndicalism and Thainist sympathies remained among the working class. When the Zonkrelans invaded, they resisted heavily, blowing up rail yards and depots to help the unrelenting Umaqi advance. When the Umaqi finally came, a revolution came with it, and the exiled monarchy fled to the normally largely isolationist Bon'an for refuge. A congress was made comprising of all trade unions in the nation, a large difference from the authoritarian communism of orthodox Thainist ideology, but still united in their goal of the World Revolution.

The Non-Aligned Movement

The Mercantile Republic of Uhla.

    Allegiance: The Non-Aligned Movement
    Population: 650 Million
Government/Ideology: Mercantile Confederation, Congress of States.
    Race: Waterbugs.
    Culture Resemblance: Southeast Asian, Burmese/Vietnamese/Cambodian/Laotian/Indonesian

Anthem of Uhla: Link Land of Peace and Prosperity

Uhla was historically a very brutal and contested area of the globe. The coastline in which many of the Uhlan nations resided carried many prized goods and immense wealth for whoever controlled it, resulting in near constant wars for control of the prized coasts. Eventually, however, war was finally avoided when a noble prince who had once lead armies in near genocide of other Uhlan nations renounced his sword and his title, and went to sit under a tree for 30 days and 30 nights. Despite many attempts to distract him and tempt him back to war and sin, he persisted, and when he rose once more from his meditation, he was a new man. He embarked on a tour to each and every one of the Uhlan nations, engaging in acts of charity and miracles to the common people before making his case to the kings and nobles of the lands, urging for peace and spiritual enlightenment through meditation and self-reflection. Despite some resistance, he eventually convinced the nobles, and they all met in the coastal city of Xutin to form the Merchant Confederation of Uhla, remaining neutral in most major conflicts since those ancient times, focusing on commercial dominance and monopolies on prized goods instead.

The Nomadic Clans of Strakval

    Allegiance: The Non-Aligned Movement
    Population: 80 Million
Government/Ideology: Nomadic Patriarchal Clans, Herding and Horseback Riding.
    Race: Bumblebees.
    Culture Resemblance: Central Asian, Mongolian.

Anthem of Strakval: Link In Praise of Great Bal'vo

Considered largely 'uncivilized' by the majority of the major nations of the world, Strakval is home to countless nomadic clans and tribes who follow herds of buffalo, horses, and other animals to make their living. Rarely have they ever united in the Grand Council of Clans, only ever meeting in times of great turmoil to the clans of Strakval. Little is known about them, for they rarely venture outside of their home territory, though they appear to be masters of horseback riding and rule the steppes of Xio'la with unmatched mastery of their horses and firing even while moving on horseback.

The Provisional Republic of Raigut

    Allegiance: Non-Aligned Movement.
    Population: 36 Million
Government/Ideology: Social Democracy, Welfare State, Multi-Party Democracy.
    Race: Flies
    Culture Resemblance: Slavic, Polish, Balkans.

Anthem of Raigut: Link Forward, Ariogend!

Raigut had always been a nation of fighters. Dominant in the realm of cavalry during their glory days in the early days of the Enlightenment, Raigut has since found itself constantly under attack from all fronts. Raiders from Ljorfall, imperialists from Thruzak, genocidal maniacs from Zonkrel, and most recently, the Umaqi. But with the proud soldiers of the Liberation Army and the soul of the people who stood up to resist Thainist tyranny, Raigut is now truly free once more for the first time in a hundred years. Refusing to kneel to either the Free Nations or the People's Union, Raigut now faces the future alone with head held high.

The Maritime Confederation of Kama'nei

    Allegiance: Non-Aligned Movement.
    Population: 8 Million
Government/Ideology: Parliamentary Democracy, Tribal Clan Confederation
    Race: Cockroach
    Culture Resemblance: Polynesian, Māori, Australian

Anthem of Kama'nei: Link Haka War Chant: Strong as Oak

The indigenous peoples of Kama'nei have suffered a similar fate to indigenous peoples all across Varmosa. They remained relatively isolated from the rest of the world, focusing on their own wars and petty greivances. Kama'nei, however, was invaded by the Thruzakans during their Age of Imperialism, resulting in wars over the tropical islands that resulted in thousands of dead Thruzakans and millions of dead Kama'neians after a staunch defense of their homeland. Relegated to the inland portions of the islands, relatively inhospitable to those who are not familiar with it, the native Kama'neians waited and rebuilt as the Thruzakans used the islands as a dumping ground for unwanted prisoners. Further conflict and tensions erupted over the next century with land encroachments and forced conversion of the Kama'neians, event resulting in a massive rebellion by the Kama'neians that resulted in a treaty and a new understanding between the two peoples. What resulted was a parliamentary democracy consisting of both the descendants of the Thruzakans and other Glumiran peoples who now call themselves the Fossah, and the native Kama'neians. Both peoples now live in relative harmony with a strong foundation and respect for the native Kama'neian culture, with their largest cultural export being their haka war chants, famed for now being performed during sports games, weddings, graduations, and other important events.

The Union of Sonzai

    Allegiance: Non-Aligned Movement.
    Population: 650 Million
Government/Ideology: One-Party Democracy, Corrupt Oligarchic Dictatorship

Anthem of Sonzai: Link Tree of Life

Okay, what do you guys usually use for a map and can you hook me up with one, because this current map I'm using isn't my favorite and the other map generators are either waaayyy too nerdy and complicated for me or just don't create anything I like. (The one I'm using in particular seems allergic to the very idea of multiple continents)

I use MS paint.

I mean, I use MS paint to make the borders and everything too, but I need some kind of base to actually work off of, one that actually looks somewhat good preferably. And the generators I'm finding off of google seem to be allergic to having other sizable continents like Earth does.

I do have a map base that might just be satisfactory if I make the nations a bit smaller like I was planning, but then you'd need to zoom in just to see some of the smaller ones, so I dunno if it's quite worth it.

No need to worry about needing to zoom in. Every good map has at least one of those.

The Joeanian Republic

Hearing about the Apollonian discovery of the dead planet, Hyperborea decides to send its own ships to investigate and set up colonies in the region. Nearly 500 starships soon make their way to Necros, carrying thousands of researchers and settlers and other individuals that would be helpful to setting up a research base in the area and claiming territory. They land on the southeastern side of the rather large island with the lake at the centre, right across the strait from the Apollonian settlement, and promptly begin construction of research stations and a permanent base. Starskiffs and drones are sent out to map and chart the region while the settlers get to work, setting up living and working quarters, wiring up the area around the bases with lightspeed communications equipment, setting up a small starstrip for skiffs to land on, and et cetera. Troops from the military are brought in as well.

Yes, the Great Wa would be open to negotiating with the Cormoeans, but they don't completely want a reformation of the Accord of Neutrality.

For the first time in over a century, a xeno stepped onto their land. While it may be a repenting Xeno, in the form of the Untecnan's, this shows that the problem of an unpure galaxy, and an unpure earth persists. There is work to be done, and a more aggressive approach, as well as the beginnings of new doctrine and technology must begin.
