If I recall, it was just down to Alexander being attracted to Erasmia's nonchalance with Church matters, as well as the fact that she voluntarily became an Alexandrian hostage in return for peace being negotiated during the Iberian War. The relationship damaged the House of Primogleon's own relationship with the Church though.
