*Chinese glooming*
Chou Tsai walked out onto the metal stairs out from the small commercial plane with a sense of dread. The faint smell of sea and fish only strengthened her feelings as she looked out over the landscape that would now become her new home. Decades old worn out concrete buildings overgrown with weed of all kinds, the sight was not one which brought forth images of progress nor modernity. Steeling herself, Chou took a deep breath of the smelly air and walked down the stairs and onto the cracked concrete of the runway. Few if any people were around, only some of the airport workers who went about their job prepping the plane. Chou picked up her bag and took a good hold of her suitcase as she made her way over towards the small airport terminal. A large colourful sign was painted on its outer wall with some cheesy 80s cartoon characters from a bygone tourist campaign. The paint showed clear signs of year-old damage with large flakes of paint ripped or scraped off, with no signs of ever receiving maintenance. A group of middle aged men sat on a few worn out plastic chairs and chatted lively. One of them stood up as Chou walked over and called out to her.
"Hey there miss. Welcome to Qimei Island. You in need of any assistance?"
Chou equipped a courteous smile as approached. Greeting him with a small bow.
"If you would be so kind. I'm in the process of moving here, so I don't know my way around."
The elderly man grinned happily, walking over and taking her bag over his shoulder.
"Moving here you say? I wouldn't have though so based on your looks. But, I digress. Welcome once again, to Qimei Island. Lovely little place, if I say so myself. I'm Bai Sheng-Li. I usually work as a fisherman, but we all do odd jobs here on this island, so I've been helping around the airport now and then. And you?"
"I'm Chou Tsai, from Peking."
Bai Sheng-Li waited to see if Chou would continue her introduction, but as she looked away he decided to let it go. He escorted Chou through the small terminal and onto the parking lot, where his small truck stood parked. It was a white Sinotruck with a few rust stains. He effortlessly flung Chou's bag and suitcase up into the hold of the truck, and when Chou had sat down in the passenger seat he turned on the truck with a light flick of the key, kicking the engine into gear with a faint rumble.
"So, what made you move here? I wouldn't have guessed by how you look… You know, city clothes and all."
Chou lowered her head and stared at her lap without saying a word. She dropped her courteous smile as the painful memories flowed back to her.
"Oh, I don't mean to pry. If it's something you don't want to say, that's alright. No pressure."
Chou quickly snapped back from her daze, and with a flustered face tried to make it look like everything was alright.
"Oh no, it's not that. It's just…"
"No worries miss Tsai. We all have things we don't want to talk about. I won't pry anymore, so relax."
Chou smiled happily. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all, if more of the people here were so friendly and thoughtful as Mr. Sheng-Li. If only so…

This is a list of active ships of the Imperial Chinese Navy (ICN; Chinese: 中华帝国海军; pinyin: Zhōnghuá dìguó hǎijūn). There are approximately 631 ships listed in the tables below that constitute active ships, but this figure does not include all the various auxiliary vessels of the ICN. A summary of ship types in service with the ICN include aircraft carriers, helicopter carriers, amphibious transport docks, landing ships, destroyers, frigates, corvettes, missile boats, minesweepers, replenishment ships and various auxiliaries. In addition, there are also ballistic, nuclear and conventional submarines presently in service. The majority of ships and submarines currently in commission with the Imperial Chinese Navy were built in China, with the exception of aircraft carrier Liaoning which was imported from the Ukraine as a partially finished vessel and finished in China.
The convention for naming naval ships is as follows; Destroyers and frigates are named after cities. Smaller anti-submarine ships are named for counties. Tank landing ships and dock landing ships carry the names of mountains. Infantry landing ships are named for rivers. Replenishment ships are named for lakes.
