State of the Infinian Language

The Infinian Language Association has published its yearly report, "State of the Infinian language." Infinian, an amalgamation of Indo-European, Semitic, Cushitic, and Nilotic languages, has evolved over time to become the lingua franca and the most widely spoken language within the Imperial Federation. However, the report notes, Infinian remains weakly present in the south of the Imperial Federation, where Swahili remains dominant, and in parts of the mountainous west, where local languages like Amharic, Oromo, and Sidama continue to be widely spoken.

Most worryingly, the Infinian Language Association has expressed concern about the increasing trend of foreigners failing to pick up the language. Especially in large, globalized cities with high levels of immigrants, foreign employees, and exchange students, English consistently beats Infinian as the language spoken with or between those from a different culture.

In the newly acquired territory of Socotra, now a part of the Infinian state of Suiyeti, locals are reported to struggle with bureaucratic information solely provided in Infinian. The governor of the State has thus far refused to pass a law recognizing Arabic as a state-level language, even though a plurality in the State Parliament supports the bill. It remains to be seen if the local Arabic people will have their language accommodated soon, or if Infinian schooling will have to further re-integration of the local people into the Infinian Mainland.

Every year, the State of the Infinian Language report is published with a single Infinian word. This year, the word chosen was "Isquduna," loosely translated as embrace, referring to the challenge of making Infinian accessible to every person living in the Imperial Federation.

PDF punches into Leh as Free india- fights to recover ground

  • Pre-dawn air strikes destroy roads, military vehicles

  • Door-to-door fighting kills hundreds in day-long battle

WILLIAM HAO and LI JUNNAN
Published: 10:12PM, 15 Jun Juche 15

The PDF has pressed its campaign against Free india- to Leh after unleashing air strikes on military targets and sending in troops from two directions.

The city was woken up by a series of drone, rocket, and missile strikes on military targets, such as IPA vehicles, checkpoints, and known positions. Y-8 gunships from Daulat Beg Oldi (DBO) strafed confirmed IPA positions over the course of multiple passes.

The Indian Air Force responded in kind, leading to a pitched dogfight over the city which lasted for half an hour, during which an IPA squadron of 20 MiG-21s faced off against PDFADF J-11s. 2 J-11s were shot down, with both pilots ejecting. PDF ground forces shot down 2 Indian MiGs with MANPAD systems, and the J-11s dispatched another 2. Indian aircraft withdrew after 2 more PDFADF squadrons entered the battleground. PDF air control over Leh was largely uncontested, save for minor dogfights which saw an IPA MiG-29 suffer damage and crash into a monastery.

IPA supply convoys leading into the city were targeted by GJ-1 drones armed with air-to-surface anti-tank missiles, most of which were successfully eliminated. 2 GJ-1 drones were shot down by the IPA during this altercation.

The PDF's advance through Leh's northern suburbs has slowed down to a halt, as troops found themselves dogged down in coordinated hit-and-run attacks by the IPA. 18 PDF personnel were killed and 8 vehicles were disabled in combat after they were engaged by rocket-propelled grenades, mortars, and artillery fire. As fighting intensified, the pincer halted 2.5 kilometers north of the Lachen Palkar Palace, where the PDF consolidated its positions. Fighting died down at night as both sides reached stalemate.

Meanwhile, heavy fighting broke out in Spituk Gompa as PDF troops from Sakti pushed north, enveloping Leh from the south. Opposing forces battled for control of the monastery, and by extension the fate of the city itself. The PDF's assumption of control over the complex would entail the ability to cut off all road access to the city, effectively besieging it.

The IPA's worst fears came true by nightfall, when the PDF seized the position at heavy cost - it had lost 96 troops killed and 122 injured. IPA casualties were significantly higher, with estimates placing them at 188 killed and 190 injured. Air superiority was a huge factor in the PDF's success, as it permitted them the luxury of aerial support through helicopter evacuations of the wounded and the paradropping of reinforcements, including ZTQ-15 light tanks and other armoured vehicles. Meanwhile, disruptions in Indian supply lines rendered them unable to refuel and rearm, drastically decreasing their combat performance.

The capture of Spituk Gompa now means Leh is under siege. The PDF expects for such drastic developments to erode the resolve of local defenders and accelerate their capitulation.

Aerial photography suggests that over 1,000 IPA personnel and civilians have fled the city for Kargil. 400 IPA soldiers surrendered and were captured.

New sustainable aviation fuel would significantly reduce long-haul flight emissions

An interdisciplinary team of researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has developed a potential breakthrough in green aviation: a recipe for a net-zero fuel for planes that will pull carbon dioxide (CO2) out of the air. The research, which used sophisticated computational modeling and analysis, was recently published in the journal Fuel.

Led by Jagan Jayachandran, assistant professor of aerospace engineering, and Adam Powell, associate professor of mechanical and materials engineering, the work helps address an urgent climate change problem. Aviation accounts for approximately 2.5% of all global greenhouse emissions, according to the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), and that number is only expected to increase.

"As aviation continues to grow, so will the industry's emissions, says Powell. "We need to think out of the box and look at sustainable materials that will contribute to a long-term solution toward reducing the transportation sector's carbon footprint."

Through modeling and computation analysis, Jayachandran and Powell developed a formula for a fuel that consists of magnesium, a mineral that is found all over the globe, most abundantly in the world's oceans. A slurry of magnesium hydride -- a chemical compound made up of magnesium and hydrogen -- mixed with hydrocarbon fuel would burn to produce CO2, water vapor and magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles. The magnesium hydride fuel would also give planes the range for long-haul flights -- e.g., from Boston to Tokyo -- something that has been a challenge for other sustainable aviation fuels to provide. That longer range is achieved, in part, due to the chemical properties of the slurry -- a lower volume of it is needed for combustion than a typical aviation fuel.

"We found this fuel would have up to 8% more range than other today's jet fuel, and more than two to three times longer range than liquid hydrogen or ammonia which other researchers have proposed as sustainable fuels," said Jayachandran.

The Department of Energy describes a sustainable aviation fuel as a "biofuel used to power aircraft that has similar properties to conventional jet fuel but with a smaller carbon footprint." These biofuels have been made from resources including corn grain, algae, forestry, and agricultural residues, among others. Using a biofuel as the hydrocarbon in this slurry with magnesium hydride could potentially lead to net negative emissions.

The research was supported by a WPI TRIAD Seed Grant, a university award intended to encourage and promote interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.

Jayachandran and Powell plan to further their research through physical experiments with samples of the fuel, and are also pursuing potential funding from a federal agency. In addition, they hope this work can inspire others and contribute to a more sustainable world.

Noting the promise of research to mitigate emissions and other climate threats, Powell said, "we hope our work, which opens up a new category of sustainable aviation fuel will spark the imagination of other researchers. The sky's the limit."

Post deleted as per RA Decision:

- Regional Administration Decision Log No. 4 -

This log details the facts, decision, and individual opinions of the Regional Administration surrounding a complaint of rule breach lodged by a player.

The Facts

    The facts are as follows.

On 3 December 2022 the Soviet player messaged a coordinator with the following:

"I’d like to officially submit the following for review by the RA: page=rmb/postid=50064474

The player has made a post stating that my post (which describes the beginning of a secret operation) is somehow an announcement

In my original post (quoted in the link above) there’s no mention of an announcement.

Furthermore, this is an RP that has already been agreed to by (current) Canada and myself.

I attempted to discuss this issue with Japan but the player has refused to heed any logic

      [Screenshots redacted]

Therefore I’d like to officially request that the RA invalidates the post by the Japan player (link above) as it violates rule 14A, quoted below:

'14A. Players are not permitted to RP for or within another nation without their express permission.'

More specifically, the post by the Japan player assumes that it is a public announcement, contrary to what the RP that current Canada and myself have agreed to, and furthermore attempts to RP on my behalf without my permission:

'the Soviet Union and the KGB in their apparent security leak announcement'

As the Russia player, I’m in charge of what the KGB in Geopolity leaks and does not leak, announces and does not announce. None of which received my permission or my input before the Japan post was made"

Final Decision

    The USSR's post is invalidated:

Moscow — The Committee for State Security (more often referred to as the KGB) has devised a plan to provide support to President John North of Canada. As a politician friendly to the Soviet Union, the KGB finds it appropriate to lend support that will increases the chances of an electoral win for President North and his political party. The KGB will utilize social media and smaller, regional news outlets to increase positive visibility of President North's party while simultaneously highlighting negative traits of President North's political opponents - with the intention of lowering their elactibility. Additionally, the KGB will begin to spread misinformation and incentivize the spread of negative press towards President North's opposition candidates/political parties. The exploitation of social media, specially leveraging echo chambers, will prove useful as one of the columns to achieve this goal.

As time passes, the Lubyanka will monitor the development of public and political opinion in order to adjust the strategy. In order to avoid scrutiny, the Committee will make use of VPNs and volunteers from other countries in order to carry out the campaign's goals. Finally, the KGB will leverage the resources of the Cyberwarfare Forces to find "dirt" on political opponents that can be disseminated a few weeks before election day in Canada.

All internal communications in RP should be prefaced with some phrase, term, or indicator illustrating its privileged nature.

[redacted] "Well we continue to work with allies in northern Europe to contain the threat, and ask Canada if there's anything we can do to help. Although options seem limited."

Opinions

    Opinion A:
Yeah. I'm on the USSR's side here to be honest. The Japanese player should have clarified. The only reason the IE/Orange-Bourgogne RP continued was because both sides consented, which is not the case here.

    Opinion B:

The Soviet player claims a breach of Rule 14A by the Japanese player on the grounds that a post underlining the KGB's "foreign outreach" programme has been falsely assumed to be a public announcement. This contradicts what the two involved players (notably the USSR and Canada) had in mind for the RP, and the fact remains that he, as the USSR player, controls the happenings of the USSR and presumably what it communicates to the outside world in character.

There are merits and concerns with his argument. Firstly, on the merits. It is true that he determines what this fictional iteration of the KGB leaks or does not leak. Japan should have clarified with him as to whether it was public or not. A bit of due diligence between players where it concerns the visibility of RP actions helps us keep the platform free of such complaints.

It follows that other players, such as the BCC and IE, should have done the same as well.

That being said, my concerns. The USSR did not explicitly say this was a secret post either. While logically one can presume that spy agencies would not publicise this information, my first instinct when reading that post was to assume it was public. Nowhere in the post does it say this is an "internal announcement" or "secret". It certainly breaks from the trend of other players who have preceded their posts with indicators of "Top secret", "Encrypted", and so on. Finding in his favor may set a precedent whereby other players make posts which are prima facie public and visible but backtrack and claim it is secret. That is not something desirable to be imparted in the RP.

      My recommendation is as thus:
      (a) The USSR's post is invalidated. The RA exhorts him to preface all internal communications with a corresponding indicator.
      (b) Japan's post is invalidated.
      (c) IE's post is invalidated.
      (d) The section within BCC's post which concerns electoral interference by the KGB is invalidated.

    Opinion C:

      I agree with Opinion B.

Orup deliver Severn Barrage Report
Orup’s Severn Barrage feasibility report has confirmed the findings of previous studies, but given increased energy costs and costs of low carbon alternatives, the cost:benefit has increased to 1:6.35 over a 60 year time frame with a project cost of £4.1bn. Additional economic benefits would be achieved through better links between West England and South Wales at additional cost.

The project has moved to the consultation phase.

~~Will Lysenko's Infiny face an untimely demise?~~
- The Nairobi Times

~~The Double-Headed Eagle has proven a formidable hurdle~~

The tension is palpable - You can cut it with a knife. Thessalia Caleyar, senior football analyst at IBIS Network, stated after the 1-0 victory of Romanovskaya over the USSR. Currently, Group C in the World Cup is immensely close. Romanovskaya leads with 7 points, followed by Infiny with 4 - but just barely. Although the victory over the USSR was resounding, a tie with Saudi Arabia and defeat at the hands of Yaratona left the Infinian position vulnerable. Now, it shares its second place with not one, but two nations - Saudi Arabia and Yaratona, with the USSR closely behind.

The Golden Generation of Infinian Football has long passed. With a series of quick defeats during the 2022 St. Louis Olympic Games, these games are seen as another test to battered Infinian national team. Will the team again fail to qualify, or will it survive against Romanovskaya? It's safe to say that the team from the far north has thus far played a formidable tournament, tieing only once and never losing.

Aurel Lysenko, the coach of the Infinian National Team, knows that the keyword for tonight will be simple - attack. If Infiny loses, either the Saudis or the Soviets will pass them - if not both. For a tie to be enough for Infiny, the Saudis and the Soviets will have to tie as well. Lysenko has already stated in a Press Conference that he's not willing to let Infiny's fate slip out of his own hands. "In the end, if you can no longer control your own fate, it tends to be a situation you didn't choose to be in. It happens despite the best efforts of the team. However, it's something I'd like to avoid too, and we'll work hard to make sure we avoid such risk."

Attacking is the name of the game. It's expected that Lysenko will play in the highly offensive 4-3-3 formation, with Dusan Atemi, who played a great match against the Soviet Union, again as the target man.

The Emperors and Prime Minister’s motorcade arrive at the White House in the District of Columbia with President Vanderbilt greeting them at the entrance to the West Gate and takes them on a walk throughout the White House with portraits of past presidents lining the walls with many whom that the Emperor has meant as-well as meeting Douglas MacArthur. They finish their walk and sit down in the Oval Office to discuss business there in their private confidential conversation.

Prime Minister Shinzo Kishi: “The Emperor and I would like to thank you President Vanderbilt for having us here especially with the anniversary of Pearl Harbor coming up which I believe we are making a joint visit there together on Air Force One next week from December 6 to 9. The Emperor and I are very excited to see Hawaii and Pearl Harbor, we also thank you for the life size replica you have of the Yamato which is a big piece of our naval history and we plan on building the same.

Anyways let’s get down to business with foreign affairs being the first thing we discuss and economic relations after that, the Empire of Japan is very concerned about Asia and the Pacific especially with what is going on in Free india- along with our neighbor Far eastern union of soviet republics, and with Cccp- actions towards the Eurasian Union and Azerbaijan. Recently two of our cities were leaked as nuclear targets from Patel’s regime, which as you may know we have had bad experience with nuclear weapons. The Empire of Japan and the United States share a common interest of having the Pacific as it’s sphere of influence so a free and prosperous Pacific can continue. Currently the FEUSSR which to be quite frank is our rival does not recognize Formosa as part of the Empire of Japan and we are curious if the United States could open up a consulate there and refer to Formosa in government maps in Japanese spelling along with that recognizing the Empire of Japan’s Exclusive Economic Zone around its islands in the South China Sea as-well as around Okinotorishima. We are wondering what is the United States position and if any assistance/information/intelligence could be given on the situation with Free india-, Cccp- and Eurasian Union, and Far eastern union of soviet republics. Speaking of intelligence we are currently setting up a new foreign intelligence agency, and we are wondering if the Central Intelligence Agency could open up a office in Edo to help train our agents as-well as our intelligence agency opening up a office in Langley, Virginia.

Another thing is that the local Japanese population has been expressing displeasure over United States military bases in Japan and we are paying around 8 billion USD to you for the bases. The Empire of Japan is wondering if any payment could be provided to the Japanese government for the military bases, which will go towards the local population in the prefectures of where those military bases are located. The Empire of Japan is also interested in starting a annual naval military exercise between us called RIMPAC which other countries will be able to join. We are thinking that Eulumia, Jeonwonha, and Upper and lower canada would be great assets to the exercise”.

Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry - Rare earth minerals discovered

The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry has discovered around 16 million tonnes of rare earth minerals at roughly around 6000m below the sea surface from 1850km from Edo. JAMSTEC, Toyo Engineering Corporation, and TOA Corporation are currently in talks to make it feasible and with it do be done in 5 years to come up with the best plan. The current plan to make it profitable is to pump out the mud through a pipe continuously and make it into a slurry with using machines on the seafloor. The licensing and lease applications are expected to open in five years for companies with estimated start of mining to be in about 10 years at a rate of 40,000 tonnes per year.

-Empire of Japan- wrote:The Emperors and Prime Minister’s motorcade arrive at the White House in the District of Columbia with President Vanderbilt greeting them at the entrance to the West Gate and takes them on a walk throughout the White House with portraits of past presidents lining the walls with many whom that the Emperor has meant as-well as meeting Douglas MacArthur.

Vanderbilt smiled as he shook the hands of both the Prime Minister and Emperor before speaking

"First, let me welcome you to both the White House and the Union. I trust the flight from Tokyo was without issue. On the issues regarding the Pacific and Asia, there's not much we can do in regards to Eurasia but confronting the FEUSSR is our main goal and curtailing its influence in the Pacific and Asia as a whole. That brings me to the matter of Formosa. If allowed, Union forces could be based there and aid Imperial Navy and Air Forces in patrolling the waters and watching the skies for threats. Matters of payment for any such bases and existing ones are of course reviewed by the Treasury Department but there will be no issues there. Lastly, the idea of a Pan-Pacific wide fleet exercise has merit and I'm certain the Defense Department would be open to such a matter."

Prime Minister Shinzo Kishi: “Thank you for the welcome, we will allow for the United States forces to be stationed out of Formosa as it is a critical point for us. As you may know marine biology is very close to the Emperor’s heart as he started his interest in it post World War Two. The Empire of Japan is looking to setup a International Organization that is dedicated to marine biology, geology of the ocean, cleanup of the ocean, as-well as many other stuff related to the ocean.

Regarding trade the Empire of Japan would like to discuss the elimination of tariffs for Japanese imports of automobiles/automobile parts, steel, and aluminum. In exchange we will eliminate tariffs for American imports of rare-earth minerals and iron ore as we need to become less reliant on FEUSSR. The Empire of Japan is also interested in the molten salt reactors that your industry has developed and we are curious if the United States would like to invest in Japan’s energy infrastructure to make us less reliant on non-renewable energy.

The Empire of Japan is also concerned with crime especially with human trafficking and the Yakuza. If allowed, the National Police Agency of Japan would like to establish field offices/liaison offices in Los Angelas, San Francisco, and Honolulu to help combat international crime, provide information to the United States law enforcement, and work closely with United States law enforcement. I am hoping to also have a extradition provision and a database of fingerprints, face photos, evidence, dna, travel documents, and a list of wanted persons between us that our police agencies can access to help combat crime between our countries”.

Breaking News: President Ilham Azizov Rejects Soviet Offer!

Baku — We have received news from Azerbaijan indicating that Interim President Ilham Azizov, who is also the country's Chief of Staff of the military, has resoundingly rejected the offer from Soviet Foreign Minister Sokolov, calling it a "coward and dirty form of expansionism." President Azizov further stated that the Soviet Union stood to benefit the most from the chaos in Azerbaijan, implying that the death of late President Ali Gafaroba was a product of Soviet intervention. When pressed on evidence, President Azizov refused to specifically point to any proof.

President Azizov further stated that he intends to remain in power until social order is restored and the death of late President Gafaroba is fully investigated. Despite previous statements of his intention to hold elections, Azizov has backtracked and now believes that the country is "not sufficiently stable to have free and fair elections."

Japanese Broadcasting Cooperation - Supreme Court of Judicature ruling in Sakamoto vs The City of Edo

The Supreme Court of Judicature after hearing a case in Sakamoto vs The City of Edo and hours of deliberation has made a final decision regarding the recognition of marriage of same-sex couples in the Empire of Japan.

The Supreme Court has ruled that Japan’s existing laws that does not recognize same-sex marriage couples, as unconstitutional according to Article 28 of Chapter II of the Constitution as it says “Marriage shall be based only on the mutual consent and over the age of 18 years old with equal rights to both spouses. With regard to choice of spouse, property rights, inheritance, choice of domicile, divorce and other matters pertaining to marriage and the family, laws shall be enacted from the standpoint of individual dignity and the essential equality of both individuals”. 11 Supreme Court justices ruled it unconstitutional and the 4 remaining justices dissenting.

The Chief Justice ruled in the majority and wrote the majority opinion of the court which says that Article 28 of Chapter II of the Constitution of Japan does not mention sex nor gender and only says spouse therefore there is no definition of spouse in the constitution that mentions sex or gender and can be interpreted vaguely.

This Supreme Court ruling has now officially made same-sex marriage as well as transgender marriages legal throughout the Empire of Japan and that couples can be registered in municipalities as married.

Top Secret: Efforts in Canada

Moscow — The Committee for State Security (more often referred to as the KGB) has secretly devised a plan to provide support to President John North of Canada. As a politician friendly to the Soviet Union, the KGB finds it appropriate to lend support that will increases the chances of an electoral win for President North and his political party. The KGB will secretly utilize social media and smaller, regional news outlets to increase positive visibility of President North's party while simultaneously highlighting negative traits of President North's political opponents - with the intention of lowering their elactibility. Additionally, the KGB will secretly begin to spread misinformation and incentivize the spread of negative press towards President North's opposition candidates/political parties. The exploitation of social media, specially leveraging echo chambers, will prove useful as one of the columns to achieve this goal.

As time passes, the Lubyanka will monitor the development of public and political opinion in order to adjust the clandestine strategy. In order to avoid scrutiny, the Committee will make use of VPNs and volunteers from other countries in order to carry out the campaign's goals. Finally, the KGB will secretly leverage the resources of the Cyberwarfare Forces to find "dirt" on political opponents that can be disseminated a few weeks before election day in Canada. No announcement to the public was made on the secret electoral efforts in Canada.
