Hi guys i could use some help, a nation named Arlizplot somehow undercuts the bid they post, as you can see in link 1 arlizplot bid 80.1 but somehow only pays 75.1 and in link 2 bids 32.23 but only pays 23.62. I don't think it the sellers fee as in my notices it says 68.51+6.50 (link 3). Is this against the sites rules?

The price that that seller offers and the price that the buyer bids are averaged out.

The price paid is the halfway point between the bid and the ask.

If you offer a card for 20, and the winning bid is 30, the sale price will be 25.
If you offer a card for 20, and the winning bid is 100, the sale price will be 60.

After that, 10% of the sale price over 10.00 will be charged as an auction fee.

For the sale price of 25, the auction fee is 1.50 [0.1(25-10)], so the seller will receive 23.50.
For the sale price of 60, the auction fee is 5.00 [0.1(60-10)], so the seller will receive 55.00.

It says:
"4 hours ago: Arlizplot sold for 80.50.
4 hours ago: Ransium bought for 80.50.
5 hours ago: Ransium bid 81.00.
5 hours ago: Ransium withdrew a bid of 70.00.
5 hours ago: Arlizplot asked for 80.00."

I see no problems here.

The ask was 80. The bid was 81. The halfway point between those is 80.50.

That is precisely correct.

-----

Basically, the player in question flipped the card, which is a jerk move in my opinion, but valid. In this case though, it cost them money instead of making it.

You asked for 70. You received bids of 75, 76, 80, and 80.01.

The 80.01 was the winning bid, so split the bid/ask at 75.01.

Because the bid for 80 hadn't been withdrawn, the player who won the card for 75.01 immediately re-listed it for 80, probably thinking they could harvest a small profit, but forgetting about the 10% fee they would be losing.

A new bid then came in at 81, which won that auction, triggering a sale at the halfway point of 80.50.

The amusing part is that because of the seller fee, the player attempting the flip actually lost 1.56 on the transaction, because while the sale price was 5.49 higher, they had to eat the fee of 7.05.

Hey Love and Nature, I am humbly requesting a little more decorum among region-mates when it comes to the card market.

I think it is reasonable to ask that you not continually outbid people who are trying to get their first copy of their own card (you tried to do this on the S3 Siornor card and have been doing it on the card for my WA account, Weenus, and presumably many other cards of nations in this region).

I also would really like to get a copy of your S3 card, as I respect and appreciate you as a distinguished region-mate, without having to get into a full-blown bidding war with you. I obviously don't have the time or bank to compete with you on the market.

There will be enough cards to go around and everyone in Forest can get their fair share of the ones we want, but cutthroat tactics from powerhouse collectors present a serious obstacle to the rest of us and are not fun.

Obviously, I understand that you're acting well within your rights and simply conducting yourself as any savvy businessperson would, and I bear no ill will towards you for this – I'm just voicing this here as an appeal to courtesy, camaraderie, and good faith among Forest card collectors.

I can say I'm not the only one here who is doing this the cold way but you can check who liked your post, also there is a possibility to send telegrams, but since you want to accuse me in public for doing this I can tell you that I will do this all pretty strictly business way - hard and fast.
I was also outbidded multiple times from my own card and been outbidded multpiple times inside a week by nation/-s in the Forest. There have been people who have been also intentionally crashing my card values. So it can be harsh when you get into this card business.
I also don't know your second or puppet countries so I don't know what countries I'm bidding against you personally nor do I care to start looking what nation is anyone's puppet or second country because it takes time and effort.
I basically need one card per Forest nation so your argument "There will be enough cards to go around and everyone in Forest can get their fair share of the ones we want" works the other way around too. If you are in a hurry bid more or wait for your turn. That is how it works and seems to work in the card business. I have learned that a long time ago.
I have also learned that there are pretty much no rules in card business if you don't know some nations/nation owners personally and make deals with them. Some nations also make deals to attack some highly valued cards to take down their value. So it's like some form of card raids.

Anyhow, I hope this answer satisfies you. Have a nice day.

Cards are a satire on cutthroat business practices. And by satire I mean effective simulation because half anything on NS becomes the thing it was trying to parody.

On that note, I had considered participating in said cutthroat business practices this year, but honestly I barely have the energy to get the bare minimum of stuff done so I'll probably be ignoring it again.

First day of December, and we've been gifted with proper winter weather to celebrate it. -20 Celsius daytime temperatures for the first time, mixed with some windchill and fresh snowfall. Only an inch or so, but a bit of snow is still snow.

Looks like attitudes towards cards have chilled a bit as well. Very winter-esque.

But yeah, this kinda thing is part of why I'm hesitant to buy from the card market. I paid quite a bit for my own card, but other than that, the microcosm of capitalism worked quite well on me. I don't like buying things in real life either. I'm typing this on an ex-school Chromebook I got from my work up in Peace River, my shoes are actively falling apart, and I think I've got like 2 new shirts since 2019. So similarly, I don't like spending money, and here, it's much easier to see the link between "if I buy it, someone else will no longer have it".

So idk if I'm a good person to be giving this advice, but I'd recommend people just keep the scope of things in mind with cards. New cards will continue being made, there's probably not going to be a new season for a few years, and things with bids will be prioritized for generation. If you feel like someone is scamming you, TGs is a good form of communication, since it is also a game, so it's hard to know how much someone really wants the card, and how much they just want to get in a bidding war with fake currency. The latter has some appeal.

If I was to get into the market, I think my line would be letting people get a first copy of their own card, but beyond that, anything goes as long as it's in good fun. But that's just my opinion.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get on the map?

Well, it's not very complicated, the only requirement is your nation must have been in Forest for at least 12 days. If you fit the requirement, just telegram Roless! It does help a lot if you have a picture of your map, even if it's just a doodle on a napkin, but you don't need an image or even a defined shape (I can make one for you if you want). There is, however, an application that you should fill out in your telegram:

Nation Name: Especially relevant if you want your name on the map to be different from your username
Location: In which part of which map. Ex: "north of X nation", "southeast of the Oceanic Map", etc. Currently, nations can only claim in areas covered by the continental and oceanic maps.
Size and Shape:This is where an image would come in handy, even if it's just a sketch. Note, however, that I might lightly alter the coastline of your nation to better fit the map's artstyle.
Cities and Notable Features:Particularly: Where is the capital? It's also relevant to inform things like where the mountains are, how many (if any) are there, what the bodies of water are, where are non-capital big cities located, etc...

Can I change my nation once it's on the map?

Yep! Let me know what changes you want, and they will be added in the next map update, unless they affect other nations too, in which case you should check with them first.

When Is the map updated?

The map should be updated around the first of every month, but keep in mind that if your map request is sent just before then, i may roll it over to the next map update.

Do nations get removed from the map?

If a nation has been cte'd for over 90 days, then it could be removed. I am quite lenient about this, but be aware that your nation might be removed if it is over 90 days cte'd.

See you next month!

Ayo Forest!

Just wanted mention the DSA's international football/soccer federation is hosting a major tournament in my nation and we're just seven nations short of the ambitious target of recruiting a whole 32 teams! Knowing the federation had historically recruited numerous nations from this exact region for a short period of time, it was worth trying again just to reach any potentially interested. This is an invitation to any Forestian football lovers to apply for this tournament, running from mid-December to January, so feel free to telegram me (Nordustra) for more information if you're interested. If not, I then wish you all the best rest of your day/night!

The 2022 DSAFF Frost Cup, also known as 2022 DSAFF Nordustra Frost Cup or simply Nordustra 2022, was the second edition of the second most important tournament for major national teams organized by the Democratic Socialist Assembly Football Federation (DSAFF). It took place in Nordustra between 17 December 2022 and 13 January 2023.

It was the largest tournament for national teams ever organized by DSAFF at the time. Thirty-two teams competed in the cup. A total of 64 matches were played around six different cities and stadiums. Host nation Nordustra was eliminated in the quarter-finals. In the final, the United Federal States of Mexico played reigning Comrades Cup champions Talamia at the Natjonaltelten in Nattfáravik. UFS Mexico won the match 6-5 on penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra time to claim their first DSAFF trophy.

The event featured a number of accolades. Mexico's midfielder Daniel Bolaños scored the most goals during the tournament with six and was voted as the best player of the cup. Mexican coach Sandra Brioschi won the trophy for the best coach. Yucatec forward Angélica Valadez was voted as the best young player. At his first appearence in a DSAFF tournament, Akachese goalkeeper Sébastien Marcel won the award as best goalkeeper.

History

After the success of the first edition of the Frost Cup, DSAFF confirmed the format already in early 2022. In the summer, DSAFF was responsible for organizing the football tournament within the DSA Olimpia Games, which returned to the planet Delusia after two years of absence. In view of the awaited winter tournament, the federation discussed the possibility of making it part of the Winter Games. However, this possibility was rejected: the Olimpia Games would have been moved to January and would not have included a football tournament at all. The Frost Cup format was therefore kept as it was.

Host nation

On July 16, 2022, the DSAFF Congress was called to vote on the choice of the host nation of the second edition of the Frost Cup. Two nations presented an official bid: Itini and Nordustra. Itini had previously successfully hosted the final of the inaugural Champions League in Wolf City. Nordustra, on the other hand, presented an official candidacy for the first time. By eleven votes to five, it was indeed Nordustra that was selected as the host nation.

The official logo of the competition was created by the Ardelarkian designer Ahmed Hadji, from the Lifearm Studios. It was unveiled on November 9, 2022 and marked a break from all previous designs. The classic shape of the cup was abandoned, to be replaced by a stylization of the actual Frost Cup trophy.

Venues

Nordustra chose six different stadiums around five different cities to host the tournament.

The following stadiums were chosen to host the matches:

  • The Eggetstadion in Bardvik (capacity: 14.250);

  • The TELE-Sverng Arena in Helmswenn (capacity: 24.360);

  • The Linse Måde in Linse (capacity: 15.250);

  • The Månedmaken Stadion in Nattfáravik (capacity: 17.500);

  • The Natjonaltelten in Nattfáravik (capacity: 36.800);

  • The FlekkerhI ArenA in Varstrum (capacity: 21.250).

In addition to the announced stadiums, another six venues were picked to host miniature fan zones, sheltered by warmth indoors. These arenas featured large screens with live footage and commentary of the ongoing matches, while also hosting a large array of international food stands and activities for fans of all kinds to enjoy. These locations made up the lack of major stadium capacity.

List of participating teams

DSAFF decided that the second edition of the Frost Cup should have broken a new record. Thus, while the 2021 edition welcomed 24 national teams for the first time, the second edition welcomed thirty-two. It was the largest tournament ever organized by DSAFF for national teams. Out of the 32 teams, 21 were from the DSA. In total, 10 regions were represented. For the first time in a DSAFF tournament, three COTEFU teams entered a competition: UFS Mexico, Gondwana and Inglaland. The 2021 hosts, Kazanaty, didn't manage to qualify.

The 32 teams were divided into four pots according to their position in the DSAFF MexiCola™ Ranking as of 27 November 2022, with the highest-ranked teams in pot A and so on. The draw was held on December 10, 2022 inside the Arvstillflykstáda Arena, in Tōrsby, Nordustra. It was led by sports commentator Høse Tveisson and Nordustran national team's captain Louis Midjohanesen, along with several highlight figures of the 2021 Frost Cup: the best young player Neaniaõ, the best goalkeeper Jan Obølsnen, the best goalscorer Ash Blackwell and Kazanaty's best goalscorer Josef Nikolajsen.

Format

The 2022 DSAFF Frost Cup will be the largest event for national teams ever organized by the Delusian federation. Thirty-two teams joined the competition. The teams were divided into four pots according to their position in the MexiCola™ Ranking as of 27 November 2022, with the exception of Nordustra, the host nation, automatically allocated to group A. The teams were drawn into eight groups of four teams each, where they competed in a single-leg round robin format. Teams were awarded three points for a win, one point for a draw and none for a defeat.

The winners and runners-up of every group advanced to the knockout stage. The knockout stage imvolved four rounds of matches, with each round eliminating half of the teams entering that round: the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final. There was also a play-off to decide third and fourth place. For each game in the knockout stage, any draw at 90 minutes was followed by thirty minutes of extra time; if scores were still level, there was a penalty shootout to determine who progressed to the next round.

Ranking criteria

If teams will level on points, they will be ranked on the following criteria in order:

  • Most points earned in matches against other teams in the tie

  • Greatest goal difference in matches against other teams in the tie

  • Greatest number of goals scored in matches against other teams in the tie

  • If teams will remain level after those criteria, a mini-group would be formed from those teams, who will be ranked on:

    • Greatest total goal difference in the three group matches

    • Greatest number of goals scored in the three group matches

If teams will remain level after all these criteria, DSAFF will hold a drawing of lots.

Far away enough

I like the feel of it, but there's a few spelling and grammar issues in there. What exactly are you trying to say with "enterny"? Eternal? Eternity?

I consider myself as one of the OG Forest Card Collectors. So I can honestly say that I have known and traded with Love and Nature for a long long time. I always felt it was a fellow brother in arms and it traded honestly and fairly. It was the first nation I sold multiple cards to in short span of time and being a fellow Forestian collector I did it mostly at junk value. Sure at some point and much to my dismay it decided to enlist a large army of worker bees and join the dark side of card trading but I can see the temptation and almost the necessity if you want to be in any way serious about card collecting. I applaud its accomplishments and understand the joy and the thrill of the chase when reaching several milestones along the way.

The response on the request by Siornor however made me rethink that position. Maybe my previous and personal (pleasant) experiences have clouded my view but I slowly started to realize that Love and Nature now stands for (almost) everything I despise about the card game. As Jutsa explained the card game is a simulation of a capitalistic trading market with (intentional) flaws in it that are open to being (ab-)used. So how far are you willing to go in pursuit of a "material" gain or accomplishing your goal? That question can only be answered by the player.......Before the new season came out we had a quick deliberation on this very RMB on how to approach it. Some plans were made to cooperate but (again) it never got beyond that. And now I start to understand why? The large card collectors in this region simply don't WANT or feel the need to cooperate. Like with the other side games they find it more appealing to juggle XXX-puppets to get the job done than to interact with (and trust) their fellow regionmates to accomplish a goal. Call me a sentimental fool but I still hold Forest above the "everyone for themselves" and the "that is just how the card game works" way of approaching things.

A while back someone asked on the RMB why people joined and stayed in Forest. For me the reason was that it is or was the closest thing to an online community that encourages and cares for each other while allowing for differences in opinion. Something like that is hard to find these days. The focus especially in the side games however continues to slide from the "having a fun experience together" to "getting results".

So Ownzone hereby formally requests Love and Nature to reconsider its stance on how to interact with fellow regionmates in the card game cause its current response is not to our satisfaction.

EDIT: Also glad to see Frieden-und Freudenland re-emerging! What is up?

Hopefully we'll be getting a regional telegram out in the near future, but in the meantime: The Eighth Annual Forest Photo Contest is up! Time to do the annual look-through-your-camera-roll and submit a few things! :)

Forest Photo Contest 2023

.
.
.

.

It's been an important year for Forest. After a prolonged period of founderlessness, the introduction of strongholds allowed us to regain stability in the form of a Governor (and a new WA delegate as well). In the past year, we've moved into a new chapter of our history, and even as we will inevitably continue to confront challenges, the lively discussions on the RMB attest to the fact that our Forest remains as verdant as ever -- constantly evolving and, simultaneously, continuing to maintain the values and traditions that we have held for 16 years and counting.

One of those traditions -- admittedly not quite 16 years old, but still well up there -- is our annual Photo Contest. Started in 2015 by then-Culture Minister Frieden-und Freudenland, it gives us the chance to mark the end of each year and reflect back on it for at least a moment before diving into the next one. Whether you've participated for all the iterations, or this is your first time -- and whether you're a Forestian denizen or a friend from one of our embassies -- we invite you to join in: it's time for the ninth annual Forest Photo Contest!

Here's what you need to know:

🌲 We have four categories once again this year:

  • LinkTrees (this category is permanent each year)

  • LinkColour (photos that highlight, draw attention to, or hinge on colour(s) and hues)

  • LinkSky (astrophotography, clouds and weather, birds flying... anything that happens in the great above)

  • LinkGeometry in Nature (photos presenting the patterns, structures, arrangements, and regularities of the natural world, broadly conceived)

🌲 You may submit up to 12 photos total. You may choose how to divide those among the different categories, but please do not submit more than 12.

🌲 Please post your photos in the appropriate thread on our forums, located Linkhere. You may also submit photos via a link to an image hosting site (we like LinkImgur) in a telegram to Mount Seymour or via Discord to @somyrion.

🌲 The photos must be taken by you, but can be taken at any time (not just during the contest).

🌲 Anyone in Forest or in a region which has an embassy with Forest may submit photographs for the contest.

🌲 Timing:

  • Submissions will be open from December 3 at 05:00 GMT (12:00am Dec 3 EST) to December 23rd at 23:59 GMT.

  • Voting will begin on December 24th at 23:59 GMT and end December 31st at 23:59 GMT, so that we will select the winners in the first minutes of 2024!

🌲 Voting will take place on a Google Form. Needless to say, please no puppeteering!

🌲 The photographers with the top three photographs in each category will have their photos acknowledged on our RMB, on our World Factbook Entry, and potentially in our next foreign update. A banner will also (hopefully) be created with a collage of the top photos to applaud the winners, and participants in the competition will be encouraged to add it as their nation's custom banner. Forest's flag will also be changed to the 1st place photos in each category for a week after the Contest.

Now it's time to head out and start photographing! Good luck to everyone!

Any questions about the Contest should be directed to Mount Seymour.

Forest Photo Contest 2022

.
.
.

.

The year is drawing to a close, and soon we'll be entering 2023. That means 2019 will be four years ago. NationStates has now lasted more than two decades, quite an impressive feat for an author's hacked-together text-based brower game on the margins of the internet. It's all a little hard to process. And worst of all, time doesn't stop to wait for you to process it! Just when you feel comfortable writing '22' in your dates, you have to switch it up again. Here in Forest, though, we have a bit of a tradition to mark the end of each year, and hopefully give everyone a chance to reflect back on it for at least a moment before diving into the next one. Whether you've participated for all the iterations, or this is your first time, we invite you to join in: it's time for the eighth annual Photo Contest!

Here's what you need to know:

🌲 We have four categories once again this year:

  • LinkTrees (this category is permanent each year)

  • LinkMotion (photos portraying movement, action, and dynamicity)

  • LinkSunrise/Sunset (for all your dawns and dusks)

  • LinkHumans in Nature (photos presenting human signs or objects set within the vastness of nature: how human presence is subsumed by, blends into, or imitates into the natural world)

🌲 You may submit up to 12 photos total. You may choose how to divide those among the different categories, but please do not submit more than 12.

🌲 Please post your photos in the appropriate thread on our forums, located Linkhere. You may also submit photos via a link to an image hosting site in a telegram to Mount Seymour.

🌲 The photos must be taken by you, but can be taken at any time (not just during the contest).

🌲 Anyone in Forest or in a region which has an embassy with Forest may submit photographs for the contest.

🌲 Timing:

  • Submissions will be open from December 1 at 09:00 GMT (4:00am Dec 1 EST) to December 23rd December 31st at 23:59 GMT.

  • Voting will begin on December 24th January 1st at 23:59 GMT and end December 31st January 6th at 23:59 GMT.
