Is it a one-state or two-state solution? Land partitioning is a difficult task, but it is possible. And with all of the developments in the modern world, radicals on both sides will not consent to it. They can share power in one state if they can't get along enough to build two. Areas set aside for Palestinians, shared rights for all, and so on...

The flag of Nardin who won the election

Commissioner Competition
This month’s election will not go down in history as one of the most anticipated nor as one of the most participated, but a bit of calm does not damage anyone right? With incumbent The kingdom of denmark abstaining from reelection, only two candidates stepped up for the role: Nardin and The new mexican confederation.

Starting with Mex, his rather short campaign dispatch (which can be read here) explained that the main point of his platform is to “hold a conservative viewpoint”, meaning that he will strive to keep the status quo. Being a relatively new member of this community, compared to his opponent, and since the controversy of certain posts he made in the past, which resulted in a mute issued by the Moderation Committee, his candidacy was seen as the weakest by most despite the endorsement by Anskerdank.

Nardin’s platform, similarly expressed through a campaign dispatch (which can be read here), while taking similar stances to his rival regarding the upkeep of the status quo, also shows some more points. Firstly, he made clear his intention to stand against trolls and, secondly, he affirmed his proposal to help organize a sporting event to cement the community. With a lot of support from the veterans of the community, a solid reputation, and the endorsement of Walfo (see here for his commentary on the campaign of both candidates), Nardin was certainly the most probable winner of the race.

As soon as the election started it was Nardin to gain the upper hand with a fistful of votes. Despite a short moment when both candidates were head-to-head, Nardin was able to keep his lead stable thus leading to his final win. Although Nardin’s win was expected, we can surely notice how Mex was still able to secure a consistent number of votes. This may reveal a future, more successful, attempt by this latter.

Election results:
Nardin: 37
The New Mexican Confederacy: 31
Total votes cast: 68

Martian Flight
19 April, around 7:30 AM UTC, the Mars Helicopter Ingenuity accomplished the first powered flight on another planet.

Mars is not really an optimal place for a flight when compared to Earth. Its atmosphere is only about 1% the density of Earth’s, so the blades have to spin really fast to generate lift. Mars’ lower gravity helps with flight, though. Other challenges also exist, like surviving the cold Martian night, all of which had to be considered while engineering the space/aircraft.
Ingenuity flew to Mars attached to the Perseverance Rover, landing successfully on 18 February. It took some time to get the thing prepared for flight. Finally, on 19 April, Ingenuity took off, hovered, turned, and landed on the surface of Mars. It lasted 30 seconds. Ingenuity has completed 3 more flights as of 1 May.

Ingenuity is proof that flight on Mars is possible. The success opens the doors to future missions to use aircraft to explore, do science, and eventually help humans settle on Mars, the first step to going further into the vast universe. Here you can see the Linkfootage of this historic event.

Angry Chelsea fans protest their club’s decision
to join the European Super League
Sporting Situation
On April 18, 2021, 12 of Europe’s big clubs and their greedy owners have essentially killed off football. The extremely stupid idea of a European Super League only exists so they can play in a closed system amongst themselves, accumulating more and more money while the so-called “peasants” like Leicester, Everton, West Ham, Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Atalanta, Napoli, and many others get excluded and become more and more impoverished. Liverpool, Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico, Juventus, Inter, and Milan all joined. PSG is expected to join in the future once they figure out a way to bring in Qatari’s beIN Sports network broadcasting rights and once the shambolic World Cup in Qatar is done.

What is the justification for a shambolic, plastic, and frankly, crappy system? Is it because of the pandemic and clubs are struggling financially? Nope, it is motivated by a power trip and pure greed. The elites want to play amongst the elites. They do not want to play against the “peasants.” Do you think the likes of Liverpool, Man United, and Man City want to play against minnows like Sheffield United and Burnley every week? Does Florentino Perez’s Real Madrid want to play against Eibar and Elche every week? Does Andrea Agnelli want to play against Crotone and Benevento every week? Do the Qataris that own PSG want to play Angers and Dijon? Obviously not because those teams apparently do not deserve any attention or respect from the elites. If you cannot beat those relegation scrap heaps, then you definitely do not deserve to go against the top. Just because they think Craven Cottage is a run-down factory and that Gewiss Stadium is not as shiny enough as Juventus Stadium, just because they complain about watching Burnley and West Brom play, just because the likes of Patrick Bamford and Wilfried Zaha do not deserve their attention, does not mean they should just leave and join an exclusive group at the detriment of virtually everybody else. All of this is an endgame to destroy football once and for all while the billionaire owners extort their share of profits from the peasants.

Before you think UEFA and FIFA are doing the right thing in opposing the ESL, they are not doing it for moral reasons. UEFA does not want the new league taking over but wants to create their own greedy Super League that shelters the elites more than the child of a billionaire CEO. Alexsander Ceferin and his corrupt cronies love the idea of an elite Super League, but they hate that they are not the ones doing it. FIFA pretends to oppose it but behind the scenes, Gianni Infantino is celebrating wildly and drinking some Goût de Diamants champagne coupled with a caviar snack from the critically-endangered beluga sturgeon of the Caspian. Another reminder that FIFA is the same corrupt organization that gave Qatar the right to host the 2022 World Cup, an oil state with no football infrastructure that has a climate similar to Mercury, because of Qatari corruption and bribery. UEFA refuses to address corruption in their own camp and constructed FFP so that the Qataris and Emiratis can get away with financially rigging the sport. What was the use of FFP when Oilchester City and other fat cats can get away with spending the entire GDP of Vanuatu every year on building a super squad?

Who loses out? The fans, the smaller clubs, and basically anyone who is not a billionaire businessman, a corporation, or Abu Dhabi and Qatar. Why should fans of cherished and historic clubs like Liverpool and Man United get the short end of their stick by greedy and nefarious owners like Fenway Sports Group and the Glazers, respectively? Liverpool is built on Bill Shankly’s socialist ideals and philosophy that set the foundations of English and European success to come down the road. Man United, formed in 1878 by working-class rail workers, was led by Sir Matt Busby and the famous Holy Trinity of Charlton, Law, and Best dominated. The Ferguson years won them 13 English titles and two European ones. Yet in one single swoop, entire centuries of club history get tossed in the trash. The fans are the ones who care about their clubs, but why should a greedy billionaire who wants to turn the club into their own revenue generator be granted the privilege to erase an entire history of that said club?

Football is created by the poor and destroyed by the rich. The rich include American billionaire businessmen who ruin everything they touch, Middle Eastern oil regimes that torture migrant workers, a Russian oil and aluminum magnate, the son of a famous Italian industrialist with an ego bigger than that of a mafia boss, and Florentino Perez. Their dreams of a European Super League have been accomplished and they will gladly host a champagne dinner party amongst themselves while laughing at the destruction of the sport. Given that UEFA and FIFA will keep on being corrupt, spineless, and evil since it is embedded in their DNA, they will all attend that dinner party to clink wine glasses full of champagne and revel in the destruction of football.

Fortunately, the ESL cracks have sunk the enterprise all thanks to extreme fan backlash that transcends rivalries altogether. It is the masses of fans that make the most impact, and it is up to us to harness that power for positive change. But that does not mean our sport is totally saved. UEFA and FIFA are still corrupt to the bone as always. We might see a UEFA Super League that covers the exact same format as the ESL in the future. Oh wait, the hypocrites at UEFA just revamped the Champions League which essentially takes some components of the ESL and makes it a stepping stone for a UEFA Super League. Sky Sports gave themselves all the credit for launching opposition against the ESL but they are the same hypocrites who charge an exorbitant fee to watch any Premier League game during the pandemic and will gladly suck up to the ESL if they were given broadcasting rights. Never let these hypocrites claim the moral high ground.

Titillating Trivia
Hello, everyone! Our normal host of Titillating Trivia, St Scarlett, is unfortunately absent from this month’s edition. Strap in, as we will be discussing, the arid Spain, the tropical Laos, and the precipitous Switzerland!

Spain
Spain has a rich cultural history with heavy Latin and Islamic influences all across the country. Bordering France and Andorra to the north-east, Portugal to the west, and Gibraltar in the south. Preluding the Second World War, Spain was in turmoil with its own civil war. European powers also used Spain as a testing ground for new military tactics and equipment. With Germany supporting the Nationalist forces under Francisco Franco. In 1936, Adolf Hitler sent the Condor Legion, a volunteer unit composed of members of the Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht, to give the Nationalists a technological edge over their Republican opponents. The Republicans were backed by many volunteer legions funded by International Brigades supported by the Soviet Union. Many of these units that composed the International Brigade had unique names that celebrated liberal leaders, such as the American Lincoln Battalion and Canada’s Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion. Joseph Stalin had also used the Soviet Union to utilise the NKVD to dispose of left-wing opponents of Communism in Republican-held territory. In the end, the Nationalists were more united and had a common campaign strategy and better equipment, thus leading them to victory.

Spain also had a relatively unique cultural trait called a “siesta”. Many shops and businesses in the country implement a two to four-hour lunch break so that workers may take a midday nap. This nap is contributed to the large lunch and warm conditions. This practice is not as common in 21st century Spain, but researchers also say this practice reduces cardiovascular stress and is 37% less likely to have a heart attack.

Laos
A former protectorate in French Indochina, Laos is a socialist state in south-east Asia, and one of few countries left after the Cold War to still openly endorse communism on an international level. The name Laos comes from the French for the most dominant ethnic group in the area, and united the three kingdoms that reside there under the French Empire. Even though the country does have an economically sustainable coal industry, hydropower is by far the most powerful source of energy in Laos. As much as two-thirds of it is exported to neighboring countries, with Laos gaining the title as the “Battery of Asia”.

Laos is also the most bombed country per capita in the world. Laos was the host of many supply routes to the North Vietnamese communists that the United States was fighting. The US assumed that dismantling these supply routes would be detrimental to NVA morale and starve out their northern adversaries. The Central Intelligence Agency elected to launch a bombing campaign in 1964 on those supply routes, instead of fighting another ground war. President Kennedy is quoted as saying “Laos…is a most inhospitable area in which to wage a ground campaign. Its geography, topography, and climate are built-in liabilities.”. By 1975, as many as 200,000 were dead, most of them civilians. Undetonated ordinance is still a problem that persists in Laos today as there are still an estimated eighty million bombs left. In 2009, President Barack Obama pledged $90 million to the task of disarming these leftover deathtraps.

Switzerland
Switzerland is known internationally for its mountainous terrain, chocolate, and its neutrality in regards to wars on its borders. One less commonly known fact is that Switzerland has a high affinity for animal rights. Swiss law has been enacted stating that certain animals are considered social, entailing that they should always be at least paired, otherwise they would suffer loneliness. Animals that fall into this category are parakeets, rabbits, and guinea pigs. Dog registration is also of incredible importance in Switzerland as every dog must be registered into a national database and microchipped at a certain age. If anything should happen to your dog, or one moves to another commune, the national registry must be notified, as different cantons change tax rates.

The Alpine country also had a large air force during the Second World War, purchasing planes from the Germans and French in the pre-war years. Swiss airspace was often penetrated by pilots on both sides of the war, and foreign pilots who were shot down were interned until the end of the war. Relations worsened between the Allies and the Swiss when the American bombers flew off course from Germany and destroyed the small town of Schaffhausen, Switzerland. After FDR heard the tragedy that happened, he sent a letter of apology to the mayor of the city and sent $4 million in reparation.
