I present to the DSA Congress the "Bill Integrating Government Membership Entry And Tipping Your Councilors Larger Authority With Security Act", also known as the "B.I.G.M.E.A.T.Y.C.L.A.W.S. Act"

Looking over DSA Legislation, I noticed some odd things

-Council Aides must be residents but do not need to be Members of Congress
-Court Clerks face the same situation
-Councilors have say as to who can be appointed as Directors within their Ministry while they are a Councilor, but have no say as to that Director's removal, despite it being policy for years now that Councilors can remove Directors from their Ministry's Departments
-Council Aides seem to only be able to be removed as Council Aides once their Councilor leaves office, despite it being policy for years now that Councilors can remove Aides from their Ministry.
-The Discord Admin and Mods do not have to be Members of Congress This is odd because of a specific clause in the Discord legislation

"Section 1.3 Discord-Based Voting Procedures
Subsection 1.3.2 - Rules and Procedures
4. Only Members of Congress may cast votes in polls conducted on the Discord should they pertain in any way to moderation and administration. Any User may vote in all other polls. All Users may only cast a single vote.
"

It says only MoCs can vote in votes regarding moderation and administration. However, in the same law, it says nothing regarding being an MoC and a Mod. According to the law, you don’t have to be a MoC to be a Moderator but your do have to be an MoC in order to vote in polls regarding moderation. Wouldn’t it make sense for Mods to be required to be MoCs as result if this clause is in there?

-Also in the same legislation, Mods don't even need to be Residents. They don't even have to be in the same region as the DSA to be a Mod for the DSA Server.

There are quite the amount of legal voids and lack of enumeration for powers already in use. This bill addresses it

Mini-History: Audre Lorde - "Black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet,"

CW: mention of a suicide, an abortion, and cancer

Also, Audre Lorde did so much stuff but this is long enough as is so I could not include all the cool stuff.

Childhood and High School

Audre Lorde was born in Harlem, New York City, on February 18th, 1934, to immigrant parents, her father from Barbados and mother from Grenada. She grew up not feeling close to her family, feeling like her two older sisters were distant and that her mother was stifling her creativity and her father was busy with his real estate business. She was nearsighted to the point to be considered legally blind and attended schools for vision impaired children. As a child, she was quite stubborn and inclined to challenge the status quo, early example being challenging catholic doctrine when she attended catholic school. She was interested in poetry at a young age, memorizing many poems and writing her first poem in 8th Grade.

After 8th grade, she entered Hunter College High School where she flourished and made friends, including forming a group of friends that called themselves "The Branded" (no context for the name) with whom she shared her poetry. While at school, she met a girl named Genevieve Johnson and became friends and Audre would go on to say that she was "the first person I was ever conscious of loving". They did a variety of things, from skipping school to dress in costumes and roam the streets to just hold hands and cuddle on Genevieve’s couch.

Genevieve had declining mental health and, some months after one failed suicide attempt, attempted again and died at the age of 15.
Audre was left to grieve in private.

Early Adulthood

In 1951, Audre graduated from Hunter High and moved out of her parent's house soon after, got a night shift job as a nurse's aide, and would attend Hunter College (the college that owned her high school), studying English and Philosophy. First person she dated was a man named Jerry, not necessarily because she liked him but because it seemed right, but their sexual desires didn't align and they broke up. Soon after, she found out she was pregnant because of him and she received an abortion, sinking into a depression after and losing her hospital job after being unable to get out of bed for 3 days. Getting a new job later, she moved into a better apartment where The Branded would hang out a lot. In the summertime, the apartment was hot and her and her friends would lounge in their underwear and drink brandy and Audre attributes this to helping her realize her sexuality. The combination of her depression and drinking with her half naked friends all the time led to her failing her classes and dropping out.

She moved to Stanford, Connecticut, and got a job at a quartz factory which exposed her to radiation and contributed to cancer later in her life. While here, she had a female coworker named Ginger and they quickly became friends, soon developing a sexual relationship with each other. During this time, her father has a stroke and she returned to New York City to be by his side when he died, eventually coming back to Stanford. With Audrey not intending to stay in Stanford forever (and later being fired for faking her production numbers to get bonuses) and Ginger not intending on getting into a longer term relationship, the relationship was temporary.

Mexico, Lesbianism, and Marriage

Returning to New York City, she became involved in activism, including trying to get a pardon for the Rosenberg couple that were charged for spying against the US for the USSR. After their execution, she didn't want to be in the US anymore and moved to Mexico City in 1953 despite not knowing much Spanish. Being unable to find a job, she returned to New York in 1954, returned to Hunter College, and became involved in the New York City lesbian bar scene. She often felt like an outsider in lesbian circles mainly due to how her race interacts with the community and from heteronormative standards being applied to the community, including the "Femme or Butch" binary among lesbians at the time as well as monogamy.

She entered a relationship with a woman named Marianne (who she met through Ginger) and lived together with a pair of black cats named Crazy Lady and Scary Lou (it is essential for you to know about kitties). In 1959, she graduated from Hunter College and got a degree in library science from Columbia University in 1961, becoming a librarian at a children's library. Her relationship ended with Marianne and, at 27, she met a gay man named Edwin Rollins (imagine him looking like Oscar Wilde and you'll get his vibe) and became close. They got married in 1962, marrying not for love but because they both wanted to be parents, and they had two children named Elizabeth and Jonathan. Their marriage was not very good, with Audre being very open emotionally about her relationships and Edwin not being very open about his relationships and the both of them ending up in heteronormative gender roles that they both were trying to avoid.

Poetry and More Lesbianism

In 1968, Audre published The First Cities, her first volume of poems. It was edited by Diane di Prima, one of the members of The Branded, and her poetry was well received. Following, she was invited to be a poet-in-residence at Tougaloo College in Mississippi where she was able to make poetry the center of her life instead of something she did on the side. During this 6 weeks, she met another woman named Frances Clayton, a white lesbian, and came to the realization that either she was going to have to divorce Edwin or the marriage will have to change and that, either way, Frances would be a permanent part of her life. Audre and Edwin went to marriage counseling and eventually divorced with Audre taking custody and Edwin frequently visiting, but gradually drifting from the family. In 1971, Frances moved in Audre and her children on Staten Island and set up a private clinic as a psychotherapist.

In 1973, her third volume of poetry, From a Land Where Other People Live, was published and was nominated for a National Book Award and soon after publicly came out as a lesbian. In 1975, Audre and her family took a trip to the coast of West Africa to try and connect with her ancestral past where she learned about a local deity named Seboulisa, a one breasted mother (this comes back) and this trip influenced her poetry for the rest of her life. After her return, she became very popular and speaking across the US and around the world for her poetry and activism.

End of Life

Remember her radioactive quartz factory job? In 1978, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to get a mastectomy, which was difficult for her because her breasts were important to her as a part of her womanhood. She rejected getting a breast prosthesis and would refer to Seboulisa and later wrote a booked called The Cancer Journals. By 1981, her relationship with Frances was diminishing and, in 1988, the sold their Staten Island house and split away, Frances moving to California and Audre moving to the US Virgin Islands. Why there? Because she met another woman named Gloria Joseph years earlier and became close with her. In 1984, a tumor was found on her liver and was considered incurable and eventually terminal. Over the next 8 years, she took up an invitation that was extended to her to visit Germany, regularly going over there, and teach at universities, being credited with helping to form the concept of the Afro-German identity in her time there. On November 17th, 1992, she passed away at the age of 58, leaving behind a note to her partner simply saying "Gloria, I love you".

ROLE-PLAY POST

Chapter III: Hide and seek

The two children could not have been more different from each other. Dňchas had pale Chasach skin, short blond hair, and two icy blue eyes, which looked like gems, set in a crown of freckles. Teachd was clearly of the Důth ethnic group: long dark hair, gathered in a triple braid, eyebrows already marked and pitch black, skin the same color as the sand of the Ghazi desert. Both were thin, gaunt, hollow. They had been hungry, it was obvious. They had suffered poverty: you could tell by the clothes they wore. Dňchas wore a large white t-shirt dappled with a sweat not his own, and jeans ripped and worn. Clothes that had probably been given to him after he entered Talamia. Teachd, on the other hand, kept what remained of his traditional Důth clothes: a diut cloth tunic, the result of a particular carding of the wool of the Caoraich sheep, made only by the Důth.

We were silent for several minutes. I would have expected everything, except to find myself in that situation. Two innocent children sitting in front of me. I tried to draw on my knowledge of the Cŕnan language but I didn't even know if those two spoke it or if they only knew their respective dialects. I knew very little of Důth, much less of Chasach, a thorny language poor in vowels. When Bulesikur Egregori put his hand on my shoulder, I jumped, and I knew where to start.

"Who's the best at falaich?"

The four small eyes lit up and the dispute immediately ignited. Dňchas stood up on his chair waving his hands, Teachd started yelling "I" in a very narrow variant of his dialect. I had obtained the information I needed to start that interview: I needed a translator and the two children had already met. But where?

I was satisfied just that I had passed the barrier of the first question and when I turned to Bulseikur and Kremno, it was to ask them two requests. I got up and told them, "Kremno, take me to the nearest refugee camp. Bulesikur, play hide and seek with them in the meantime. Make them both win."

Later I found myself at the refugee camp number IV of Ereterma. Kremno had only agreed to accompany me alone after seeing how passionately Bulesikur had started playing falaich. An expanse of shacks covered with asbestos sheets welcomed me. Overlooking a single, long dirt road, there must have been about two hundred. At the entrance, two volunteers from the association for the defense of the rights of immigrants from Sorsluth had welcomed us with a big smile. The conditions of the camp were little more than decent. A family was assigned to each hut. The Sorlaidir family, however, is generally made up of two parents and at least three children, as tradition dictates. Those barracks were made to accommodate a maximum of two people. Ereterma had never faced a crisis of this kind. It was usually the second most affected city by migratory flows after Stamexo. I dare not imagine what the situation could be there.

I had explained to Kremno the reason for our visit: there we would have to look for a translator capable of speaking both the Důth and Chasach languages. It was very rare to come across a Sorslaidir capable of this. But rumors were circulating about that place and I wanted to go and see for myself. Escorted to hut number 89 by the same volunteer who had let us in, a young Talamian from Anen named Ekousio, a large family welcomed us. A father, a mother and seven children were busy hanging freshly washed clothes on a metal wire. One of the ones I initially referred to as children, however, was far too big for those two parents. "He is the person you are looking for", Ekousio told us. I walked over to the frail bald man with glasses. He was hanging out a green shirt. I had seen similar ones in the past. I couldn't understand his ethnicity.

"Hi, my name is Barute Domonodo. I'm a-"
"I know very well who you are"
The answer stunned me.
"I expected you to be more responsive, given your reputation. The question you want to ask me is "what's your name?". I am Eadar-Theangaiche Beul. Důnadh Beul was my direct ancestor."

Greetings fellow RPers, starting this week from the Ministry of Roleplay will be kicking off our first flashback to the past event, with the timeline taking place during the 1920s. Discuss and roleplay about the historical occurrences happening within your nation, or merge it with someone else's and create mass lore together. Party Like It's 1929 For The Week!

I have posted my stance on the current legislation proposal in the voting thread. TL;DR I'm voting AGAINST - and I think you should too.

https://thedsa.proboards.com/thread/713/act?page=1&scrollTo=2401

President Gabriella Sindevir--@POTARA5

Happy to report that the Alinnian Workforce Participation Rate has jumped nearly 2.5% in one day--a trend my administration looks to follow in the coming weeks. We are continuing to work with the Republican Party in constructing legislation which serves those who need it most: hardworking Alinnians. Our retail sector now stands as one of the best in the region and world. More money into Alinnian households. Rest assured, our eyes are on the prize: tax reform. My administration is working diligently, alongside Democrats and Republicans in the Sentinel, to provide landmark reform as quickly as possible. We remain one of the strongest economies in the world. This is only the beginning for our great Republic.

Senator Ellison Edwards--@SenatorEdwards

Do not be fooled by the Democratic Party's attempt to fool you by the fact Alinn currently has a 56 percent WPR. What will tomorrow hold for radical liberal policies which have not sustained us anyway? FYI Madame President... President LeBlanc holds the record at 66.9 percent while your predecessor, President Haines-Korbin, holds the second-highest WPR with 65.8 percent. Sindevir's highest WPR? 62.9 percent--but that was on the day you were elected. We went downhill from there. The biggest increase you have made is to our tax rate... we're up nearly 8 (!!!) percent since your inauguration. #WeNeedREALChange

Sorry, no politics allowed.

Special Report

We're going to Urborea!

Yes, you read that right. We're going to Urborea.

After months of inaction by Parliament, they finally have passed something worth mentioning. Yesterday evening, the Ministry of Defense moved to form a new organization within it's ranks. It will be called the United Space Command. The USC will combine all Military and Public space organizations under one roof and be under the command of a triumvirate. This triumvirate will consist of one military liaison, who was named as Lieutenant General Samantha Carter; one public liaison, who has been named as Gregory Wilkinson; and one Parliamentarian, who has been named as Sir Walter Blackstone. The triumvirate will oversee all day to day operations.

Along with passing the United Space Command Authorizing Act, Parliament also passed the Urborea Mission Authorizing Act which has set the United Space Command on the ground with its feet running. The act sets the mission of the USC as establishing a colony on the third planet of our solar system, Urborea. To that end, the first phase of the project will consist of a station orbiting our moon, Danae, and a small outpost there as well. The station will be able to refuel and recharge spacecraft. It will also serve as a rest area for spacecraft crew and as a staging area for the outpost below. The station will constructed in low orbit using our orbital defense platforms and the recently complete space elevator. It will then be towed into place using modified Starcruiser rockets. The outpost will have orbital maintenance, communications, fuel processing, Helium-3 mining and crew facilities. These two facilities should be completed within 18 months.

Phase two of the project is to design and build a vehicle capable of reaching Urborea safely. Phase three of the project consists of constructing a station in the orbit of Urborea with the following capabilities: refueling, crew and passenger, recharging, and construction facilities. The final phase, phase four, of the project will consist of the construction and habitation of the colony.

Minor Bills recently passed.

Along with the two bills named above, the Parliament also passed the Wildlife Defense Project Act which establishes a fund to aimed at subsidizing the cost of upkeep and maintenance of local parks and wildlife preserves. They also passed the Governmental Management and Authorization Act which, among other minor changes to the bureaucracy of the government, subisidizes the cost of District and local governments compliance with the Electronic Documents Act.

As always: Good Luck and Godspeed

From The Ministry of Role-Play

Ever wanted to live a quiet peaceful life? Awake in your cottagecore shack next to your beautiful lesbian ent wife? Venture to town to fetch some meat from last night's hunt of the nighthorde? Go down to the pier and do some fishing, listening to the sounds of the murky creatures lurking below? Maybe go into the woods to pick some mushrooms while the birds chirp the sounds of the dead? Well now you can!

Join us in the start of a new alternate universe RP: Village RP. Create a village in a small but magical world. Read the dispatch below for more. If you want to post any RP about it here on the RMB, just mark it as "Village RP" or give some kind of indication that it is that (so we don't get confused)

Here in the DSA, we have two role-play universes: Main RP and Village RP. The Main RP is, well, our main one with nations and global cooperation and the horrors of daytime television. Village RP, however, is different. There are no nations, no global interactions, none of that. It's all smaller and in an alternate universe of RP.

  • Players can create a village or town, indicated by dots on the map. There are no borders, just villages. You can determine the extent of your influence through discusssion and roleplay with other villages. To claim a spot, directly message Student Loan Debt with the village name and where you'd like to be

  • You can expand by making more villages. However, you are limited to 3 villages max

  • There will only be 1 city, that being a neutral city anyone can do RP in called Orbonne

  • There is no magic cap. Village RP allows you to be high fantasy. Go fight monsters, have your village be entirely populated by talking pumpkins, open a shop that only sells magical dental floss, anything. Just don't go and take over the world.

  • The vibe is pre-industrial fantasy, meaning technology advancement is limited to being pre-industrial. No electricity and all that jazz

  • The northern islands have a warm and wet climate while the southern islands are colder and frequently get snow in the winter. As you climb mountains, you'll also find them to be colder and with greater chances of snow

  • This RP is for players who intend to roleplay. Any player who has been consistently inactive (like not posting for an entire month) will be removed from the map.

  • There are 3 NPCs: Orbonne, Torutiya, and Oceris. Beyond their descriptions, players are allowed to make any story they wish in them

Orbonne is a city on the North Island with a diverse population of 200,000. The center of civilization, the city provides many amendities to its people. Home to many shops, facilities, and the Orbonne University, the city is a thriving home to any.
Torutiya is a collection of small villages constructed by pirates and islanders
situated directly next to eachother. It acts as a haven for pirates with no formal sense of government or hierarchy except the more riches you plunder the more prestige you have.

Oceris is an underwater civilization found in the southern waters of the region. A once thriving land civilization, it sank below the waves of the sea and continued to live on as a sea nation. Its people continue to voyage beyond their home to explore the isles, curious about the world despite their isolation.

Absovenya - Kehidupan
An Tir Glas - Dridia
Cid-vivar - Isidro Labrador
The Finno-Estonian Empire - Ţylrad
Mate Uniumburgia - Natsumoto and Sakana Harbour

The Shaded Isles
When a village dies, it does not simply stop existing. If only it were that simple. Its energy lives on. A village may fall for many reasons. Its people may be scattered, may have been struck with plague, or perhaps something more sinister. Whatever the case, the village exists in some form which lives on in the Shaded Isles, a realm beyond ours that reflects our reality and remains strange and obscure

(OOC, this is a fun way to acknowledge villages being taken off the map. If it goes against your canon then just ignore it)

Map Update

Map Cartographer: Student Loan Debt

Next Update: April 1st

Introduction

The maps of the Democratic Socialist Assembly are opt-in maps that allow nations to have defined borders and enhance their role-playing (if they chose to do so. No one is making them). To have a spot on our maps,
see How to Get on Our Maps for more details.

How The Maps Work

Every 15 days (half months), all official DSA maps are updated to reflect current stats and regional membership.

Our Maps

Base Map

Political Map: A map showing the borders and boundaries of all the nations of the DSA that are on the maps.

Climate Map: A map showing the different climates of the world. Scroll below the map to find descriptions.

Climates

Tropical Climates - Between 0 and 32 degrees N/S

Tropical Rainforest - Hot and Wet year round. Dense forests, little underbrush, poor soil quality, high biodiversity.
Real Life Examples: The Amazon, The Congo, Indonesia
Tropical Monsoon - Hot and Very Wet summers and Warm Dry winters. A transitional zone between Rainforest and Savannah
Tropical Savannah - Hot Wet summers and Warm Dry winters. Grasses and shrubs, isolated trees, droughts, and lower biodiversity
Real Life Examples: Serengeti, Thailand, Southern Mexico
Hot Desert - Very Hot summers, Warm winters, Dry year round. Sandy and rocky, low vegetation, low biodiversity.
Real Life Examples: Sahara Desert, Central Australia, Arabian Peninsula
Hot Steppe - Hot summers, warm winters, Low-Dry year round. Grasses and shrub lands, scattered trees, droughts, thorny or waxy plants. This is a transitional zone between Hot Desert and surrounding climates.
Real Life Examples: The Sahel

Temperate Climates - Between 32 and 60 degrees N/S

Real Life Examples: Greece, Italy, California
Humid Subtropical - Hot Wet summers and Warm/Mild with Moderate Precipitation winters. Evergreen trees (Palm Trees are popular), ferns, bushes, shrubs, and grasslands
Real Life Examples: Southern United States, Eastern China, Uruguay
Oceanic (Maritime/Marine) - Warm/Mild Wet summers and Cool/Cold Wet winters. No dry seasons, narrow temperature range, conifers and broad leaves, lots of weather that's cloudy, overcast, and rainy.
Real Life Examples: Western Europe, New Zealand
Temperate Rainforest - A subclimate of Oceanic Climate with dense forests with heavy moss and ferns and ground cover
Real Life Examples: Japan, Ireland, British Columbia
Humid Continental - Warm/Hot and Moderate Precipitation summers and Cold/Very Cold and Low-Dry winters. Wide temperature range, Evergreen and Deciduous trees, grasslands and shrubs.

Real Life Examples: Nunavut, Greenland coast
Polar Ice Caps - Low Precipitation summers, Dry winters, and Very Cold year round. Permanent snow and ice cover and almost no plants at all.
Real Life Examples: Antarctica, Greenland Interior
Highland/Alpine - Depends on elevation. Precipitation depends on surrounding climate and wind patterns (If the base of the mountain is dry, expect that side to be dry. If base is wet, expect it to be wet). Cold resistant plants like perinnials, , sedges, mosses, and lichen, and there will be a Linktree line where, once you are high enough, trees cannot survive and will not grow. Where this line is depends on temperature and latitude, with the line decreasing in height the closer you get to the Poles.
Real Life Examples: Himalayas, Andes, other mountainous areas

Topography and Bathymetry (Elevation) Map: A map showing the elevation of the land and oceans

Geographic Map: A map showing what our plant generally looks like on a satellite. Includes names for many major areas, climates, and mountains of our world.

Ocean Currents Map: A map showing the ocean currents of the world and their temperature.
Blue= colder water and drier air heading towards the equator. These areas are nutrient rich and act as fishing hot spots.
Red= warmer water and wetter air heading towards the poles. In tropical waters, these are where coral reefs and coconut palm trees can be found.
Black= no significant temperature change

Bodies of Water Map: A map showing the names of major bodies of water and location of rivers

The Lakes, Seas, and Oceans are named after those who have contributed great amount of work and time to the DSA. The bigger their contribution, the bigger amount of water they get. The Ocean of Solidarity is not a player, however, but a major ocean from the previous map.

The Rivers, however, can be named anything. This is left up to the nation who has said river flowing in their lands

Wind Patterns Map: A map showing the prevailing winds of the world, including the ITCZ, Subtropical Ridge, and Polar Front.

Time Zone Map: A map showing what time it is in different places around the world

Volcano Map: A map showing where the volcanoes of this world are located, whether active, inactive, big, or small

Extreme Weather: A map showing where can can expect extreme meteorological (weather) events

Map of Seasons: A map showing what season each part of the world is in. These are the current seasons for the months of March - April

Tropics

Wet Season - The time of year when most of a region's average annual rainfall occurs

Dry Season - The time of year with little rainfall and little humidity

Middle Latitudes

Spring - Days and nights are around 12 hours long each with day length increasing and night length decreasing as the season progresses. Temperatures are increasing, snow melts and creates run-off, and plants begin to bloom. Storms are not uncommon.

Summer - Days are longer than nights with day length decreasing as the season progresses after the solstice. Temperatures are high, plants are in full bloom, and hurricanes/cyclones can occur.

Autumn - Days and nights are around 12 hours long each with night length increasing and day length decreasing as the season progresses. Temperatures are decreasing, deciduous trees start shedding their leaves, and the harvesting of crops are at their highest.

Winter/Polar Night - When the polar region is facing away from the sun and the night lasts for more than 24 hours. For specifics on how long it lasts, consult the LinkCivil Twilight Map below, but in reverse instead of it measuring twilight, it measures midnight).

Civil Twilight Map: A map showing where on the planet Civil Twilight (when the sun is 6 degrees below the horizon) occurs and for how long. Aka places where it stays sunset for a long time.

Aurora Map: A map showing where on the planet one can expect to see auroras

Coordinate Map: A map showing the latitudes and longitudes of the world

Trick Or Treat: In the spirit of the Halloween season, the Democratic Socialist Homeowners Association has provided a map of the neighborhood (I turned the DSA political map into a neighborhood map). This is the map as of October 31st, 2023

How to Get on the Map

Every nation that moves to the DSA has the opportunity to be added to the map upon request. The map system is designed to reward and encourage active participation and longevity with more flexibility on the map, meaning nations that remain inactive in terms of RP will likely not get everything they like in their requests.

Map Criteria/ Requirements To Be On The Map

To join the map

To stay on the map

  • Post any kind of In-Character role play at least once a month and somewhere reasonably accessible/public

Specifics about the activity requirement

  • It should be In-Character, aka in-universe. Could be from someone's perspective, a news report, organization postings, a tweet, etc. The Ministry of Role Play promotes in-universe narratives over top-down worldbuilding (especially since NS easily provides one for you). However, if you only do top-down worldbuilding, we allow it to meet the requirement if it is at least two paragraphs of content.

  • Can be any length. Can be as short as a tweet or as long as a novel. Pretty easy metric.

  • If you're about to be removed for inactivity, I'll try and give you a one-week heads up about that. If it happens a 2nd time relatively soon after, I'll give you another heads up. A third time, though? I won't tell you cause you've already been told twice. Gotta start remembering yourself.

  • If you're removed for inactivity, you won't be able to reapply to the map for the following 15 days.

LinkOpt-In Here
  • You can either let the DoC pick where your nation will be (they base it on you Factbook, your national animal, anything and everything to try and get a good location) or you can upload an image of where you'd like to be.

  • By opting-in to our maps, you here by agree to all terms and conditions listed in this dispatch

Expansion

If you would like to request a larger size (an expansion), please telegram the DoC with your new request. If they approve, you will need to opt-in to the map once again so the expansion can be properly documented. Your first expansion is free, however all following expansions will require that you be active in RP as expansions are rewards. What is considered "active" would be a significant amount of RP within a certain time frame prior to the expansion request.

Also, No Long Chile, which means no hogging a continent's coastline. You can start and expand to and along the coast line, but I will not let you take up a significantly large portion of the coast with no inward expansion.Unless you're blocked by a mountain, be cautious only expanding along the coast.

Lastly, we do limit how large nations can be. The limit was larger in the past but had to be reduced so new players could still have desirable locations. The current limit is 500,000 pixels on the map, or 4,961,250 square miles/12,852,450 square km) (smaller than Antarctica)

What Else Can Be Requested? What is Restricted?

  • Size of Your Nation
You may request a specific size for your nation so long as it is below the requirements listed above. You may request a specific location, access to water, landlocked status, etc. so long as it is within reason.
You're not going to start big. You're gonna be a normal starting size.
LinkClick Here To See Some Examples
Realistically, your nation isn't going to start out the size of Russia. What nation ever has?

  • Capital City and Major Cities
You can request I add a city of yours to the map. Just don't do too many, just the biggest ones.

  • No Puppets...Kind Of
Residents may only have 1 NS account tied to the map. However, if you want to have multiple nations on the map, you can request I indicate some of your land to be recognized as another country. I'll include a little indicator underneath the nation name that it belongs to you and you can name the country whatever you like.

  • Border-Gore
Please don't do any. While you can do some (with my permission), perhaps keep it more internal and not be your national border. I consider it cheating the expansion system because it deters anyone from being near you, effectively making surrounding territory yours and that's not fair. I also count Portuguese colonization (tiny trade post claims everywhere) to count because it has the same effects.

  • Relocating/Moving Your Nation
First off, please don't. Extremely rarely would an IRL nation entirely relocate their whole nation. Capitals change, yes, but not an entire country. If you're going to relocate, at least put effort into it and write up some good RP explaining the relocation (and preferably more than just "My people don't like it here anymore" or "Oops, we just nuked the area, gotta go". Nah, that's lazy and you know it.

But if that's too much, then opt-out of the map and be off for a month before getting back on.

These next two don't really relate to the above, but are informational none the less

  • Distance
Our world is 25200 miles (or 40555 km) in circumference. The map is 8000 pixels long. This means that each pixel on the map represents around 3.15 miles (5.07 km). The hypotenuse of each pixel is around 4.45 miles (7.12 km).

  • International Waters
International waters start 12 nautical miles off the coast of a claimed territory. If you are using one of our 8000 pixels long maps, that starts 4 pixels horizontally/vertically away from you nation. Other directions depend on your angle.

The cartographers reserve the right to refuse to add or to edit any nation or feature on the regional map. They are a God with unlimited cartography power!

Removal from the Map

  • There are a few ways a nation might be removed from the map.
    1) It ceases-to-exist (CTEs, that is when a nation doesn't log in for 28 days and their nation is deleted); OR
    2) It departs the DSA for another region; OR
    3) It requests removal; OR
    4) They don't fulfill the activity requirement

  • A nation that has been removed from the map and wishes to be on the map again is treated as a new arrival and must opt-in to the map once again in order to be on there.

What if I accidentally leave the region?
It happens. If you accidentally leave and come right back, you don't lose your spot. Although if you're gone for, like, more than a day then yeah you lose your spot

What if I CTE but refound really quickly?
You still lose your spot. Your map spot is directly tied to having an NS account and, just like we consider CTEing to be resignation from the DSA Congress, we also consider it resignation from the map.
In addition, you had an entire month (or two if you put your nation in vacation mode in the settings). A log-in to NS takes less than 30 seconds and you'd only have to do it once a month. It's a very easy requirement to meet.
To get back on the map, you will need to opt-in again and will start at starting-size, which means expansions need to be earned back.

What if if I was REALLY active?
We make an exception for that. For players who have been actively engaged in DSA RP for a long while and have expanded borders, if they CTE and come back and opt-in before the next map update, they will get their full borders back. If they wait until after the map update, they can only get half their borders. If they wait until the 2nd map update after, though? Doesn't count. That's a full reset.

Role-Players

Do you all remember the Focus System? It was an optional system made under Kathina dakani to serve as a balancer so that nations don't become overpowered as well as help in nationbuilding. After quite some time of work and discussion, it has been brought back!

In the Focus System, you'll find 18 different skills that your nation has access to and can pick 10 that you are exceptionally good in, along with each skill having a Focus you can pick from, which are subskills within a skill. You will have access to the other foci, you just happen to be better at one than the others.

This Focus System is now in beta testing, where we will see how it goes and see if any changes will be needed as time goes on before it becomes finalized. Come pick your skills on the forum thread.

1ST EVER DSA MEME CONTEST

Memes are the poor man's way of contributing to society, and we here in the DSA stan worker solidarity, so think of this as a celebration of the culture of the working class...or just memes, whatever, it's a meme contest, okay?

Rules and Stuff

•You got 4 days to submit a meme (so due on March 11th)
•Submit it either on the below forum thread or Telegram or DM me them (Student Loan Debt#0946). I'll upload all the ones that were sent to me
•No memes that would be rated R. If you couldn't post them on our Discord server, don't submit it then
•Obvious one here: no discrimination (like racism, sexism, queerphobia, anti-plural, etc). This isn't reddit
•Voting will happen on the forum
•If your meme relates to our region, the DSA, you'll get a bonus vote on your meme
•It could be an image, a video, whatever you think would be a good meme
It has to be made by you. No stealing memes from other people
•If your meme makes fun of me, there may or may not be an increased chance I'll vote for it to win

Mediterranean - Hot Dry summers and Warm with Moderate Precipitation winters. Evergreens, deciduous trees, plants like olive, citrus, and figs, Shrub lands, and (when it gets real hot and dry) wildfires.
Real Life Examples: Greece, Italy, California
Humid Subtropical - Hot Wet summers and Warm/Mild with Moderate Precipitation winters. Evergreen trees (Palm Trees are popular), ferns, bushes, shrubs, and grasslands
Real Life Examples: Southern United States, Eastern China, Uruguay
Oceanic (Maritime/Marine) - Warm/Mild Wet summers and Cool/Cold Wet winters. No dry seasons, narrow temperature range, conifers and broad leaves, lots of weather that's cloudy, overcast, and rainy.
Real Life Examples: Western Europe, New Zealand
Temperate Rainforest - A subclimate of Oceanic Climate with dense forests with heavy moss and ferns and ground cover
Real Life Examples: Japan, Ireland, British Columbia
Humid Continental - Warm/Hot and Moderate Precipitation summers and Cold/Very Cold and Low-Dry winters. Wide temperature range, Evergreen and Deciduous trees, grasslands and shrubs.
Real Life Examples: Eastern Europe, United States Mid-West
Cold Desert - Hot summer, Cold winter, Dry year round. Sandy and rocky, low vegetation, low biodiversity.
Real Life Examples: Gobi Desert, Southern Argentina
Cold Steppe - Warm summers, Cold winters, Low-Dry year round. This is a transitional zone between Cold Desert and surrounding climate.
Real Life Examples: New Mexico, Spain

Polar and Cold Climates - Between 60 and 90 degrees N/S

Humid Subpolar (Boreal/Taiga)- Cool/Mild and Moderate Precipitation summers and Very Cold and Low-Dry winters. Coniferous forests, poor soil quality, and little undergrowth.
Real Life Examples: Canada, Alaksa, Siberia
Polar Tundra - Cold and Low Precipitation summers and Very Cold Dry winters. Permafrost, no trees, has srubs, grasses, mosses, and lichens, low biodiversity, and seasonal bogs and lakes

Black= no significant temperature change

Continental Map: A map showing the continents, subcontinents, and regions of the world

Plate Tectonic Map: A map showing the major plates of the world and their motions, along with where to expect most earthquakes...or would they be DSAquakes?

Winter - Nights are longer than days with night length decreasing as the season progresses after the solstice. Temperatures are low, most plants have died, animals are migrating and hibernating, water freezes, and humid areas receive snow.
Polar Regions

Summer/Midnight Sun/Polar Day - When the polar region is facing toward the sun and the day lasts for more than 24 hours, with the Sun being visible at local midnight. For specifics on how long it lasts, consult the LinkCivil Twilight Map below.

Opt-In To The Map

Please don't do any. While you can do some (with my permission), perhaps keep it more internal and not be your national border. I consider it cheating the expansion system because it deters anyone from being near you, effectively making surrounding territory yours and that's not fair. Hi all, just wanted to chime in here for a minute.

One of the things I most love to observe here is the evolution of our map.

One of my favorite roles here back in the day was Minister of Cartography (then its own cabinet position). It brings me joy to see how much work has been and continues to be put in since then. I love every update.

I especially enjoy seeing some of our most impactful members honored in the seas and various other geographic features. Well done everyone.
