“With recent developments in the Russian Federation Ranponian, it has been very sad to see the mass expulsion of Muslim Russians from the Central Asian regions. Even so, every state has an image of what constitutes its identity, as Muslims, we are required by Islam to migrate to Muslim lands if we are being oppressed in the lands of Non-Muslims. Therefore, in act of clemency I would like to request the Russian government to allow the Emirate of Kanem to alleviate them of some of their burdens. Across the next 5 years, the Emirate of Kanem will take in 1.5 million Russian Muslims. Those with suitable backgrounds in STEM work will be prioritised & allocated to positions in the Emirate where they can help grow the economy and industrialisation of a Muslim state.”

During the 6th century in the dry Sahelian grasslands of Northern Central Africa, the Sao civilisation emerged. The Sao created flourishing city states & are said to have originated from the ancient Hyksos people of Ancient Egypt that fled following successive waves of invaders.

The Sao city states would remain relatively isolated to themselves until Trans-Saharan trade begun with the Arabs of North Africa between the 8th and 14th century. It was in the 14th century that Islam would begin to spread rapidly among the Sao city states and transform their civilisation forever. With the introduction of Islam, the use of the Arabic writing system became widespread allowing for the Sao to record their history for the first time. Islamic madrasas (schooling systems) were setup & trade with Arabs gave the Sao access to guns & cloth.

In the 16th century, the Sao city states had begun forming Sultanates. These Sultanates often warred against one another & traded enemy captives as slaves across the Sahara desert. The bloody wars between the city states would continue until in the mid- 1600s, Omar I, a powerful & ruthless warrior would raise an army near Lake Chad & go on to conquer all the city states, unifying the region under the Kanem Empire.

The Kanem Empire would rule the region & prosper through trade with the Arabs to the North & the various West African kingdoms situated near the Niger River. Once reaching its peak of expansion which extended as far as the Bangui River in the rainforests of Central Africa, the Kanem Empire would begin falling into decline around the late 19th century, when the Scramble for Africa would lead to the last Emperor of Kanem signing the Treaty of Ndjamena in 1900 to establish the British Protectorate of Kanem.

British colonial rule would result in the introduction of railways connecting the dry North & the equatorial South, construction of modern cities & introduction of European customs to the Kanemian people. While the Northerners heavily resisted, the Southerners embraced Europeanisation.

In 1960, British Kanem would receive independence from Britain & the immediate result of the British exit was a civil war between a variety of groups that sought to establish themselves, the Socialists, the Republicans & the Royalists who sought the restoration of Islamic Monarchism. In 1965, the Royalists would win led by Suleiman Ali who would declare himself Emir of Kanem & found the Emirate of Kanem.

From 1965 until 2000, the Emirate of Kanem would remain isolated from affairs on the African continent & globally. Only a select among of foreigners would be allowed to enter the Emirate, billions would be poured into fortifying the country’s borders with electric fences & border landmines. Having discovered resources such as oil, diamonds & uranium in the mid 70s, the Emirate of Kanem would trade mainly with the US Paramountica & Britain Enchanted Oasis as a neutral but Western-leaning ally. The result was the steady increase in wealth of the Emirate who’s successive Emirs maintained a policy of instituting free healthcare & education as well as subsidies for farmers. The Emirate of Kanem would go on to boast the most highly educated African population by 2005 with a rate of 98% despite all Kanemian males being required to complete at least 1 year of compulsory military service.

Since the 2000s however, many Kanemian government officials have been pressuring the Emir to end the isolation period and become more interconnected with the international community, signalling tides of change are near.
