Oateria, officially the Senatorial Badger Republic of Oateria, is a sovereign country located in the east of the continent of Aldregioa and west of Cetrasta. The country is made up of 27 voting districts, and is a federal presidential republic. The capital is Raziel and the largest city is Wenbale. It is bordered by Rei Khan and Gondor on the west.

Oateria has a population of approximately 440 million people and its official languages are Augustan Common and Oaterian. The country has a diverse culture, with influences from the indigenous tribes, settlers from Rei Khan, and immigrants from various other nations including Aerlanica, Al Montica, North South North West Kansas and others.

The government of Oateria is split into two main houses: The Senate House and The Executive House. The Senate is made up of 100 Members, 3 from each of the 27 Oaterian voting districts, and 19 being federal senators which the entire country votes on, and is generally seen as a senior position. The Executive House is made up of the President of Oateria and their department heads.

The Oaterian economy is primarily based on entertainment, tourism and technology sectors. The country is known for its badger-themed culture and sports teams, and also for its love of badger. Oateria has a long and complex history, including the Banderviss empire, which was one of the five kingdoms in the earlier half of its medieval period, and attempted to conquer Oateria. This led to the formation of a singular republic, which ultimately became the Oateria of today.

Etymology

The origin of the name "Oateria" is debated among historians. One theory is that the name comes from the Oaterian word "teri," which means "bridge," as the nation is located between two continents. Additionally, Oateria is known for having large amounts of grain farms, particularly in the Zerdan and Yunek regions, hence the name "Oat Folk" as a demonym for Oaterian nationals. Another theory is that "Oateria" comes from an old word for badger (Ostern) and bridge, but this theory is not widely accepted.

The most commonly used denonym is "Oaterian", which can be used to refer to a person or people who are native to or citizens of Oateria. Other commonly used terms include "Oat Folk", and "Teryan", which is based off a shortened version of Oateria's name, "Teria." Another term used is "Badger", which refers to the love of the badger by Oateria's people and it is also used as an affectionate term for Oaterians. The reason for this love is debated, but one theory is that it has roots in the Wandot religion, which is an early religion in Oateria's history, created by tribes known as "Wildmen" or "Vikings". In the religion, Maufonia, the goddess of protection and fertility, often took the form of a badger when speaking to mortals, and many vikings considered attacking or harming a badger to be risking death because of this.

Another demonym used is "Sterkian", which is a derogatory term used to refer to Oaterians, particularly those from the Oatseria region. The term is derived from a portmanteau of "Southern" (Suje) and "Derelict" (Trusken) which was used to refer to Zerdans, before being used against Oaterians as a whole, primarily by Mongolyns, Tyramonians and Aerlanicans.

History

Historians believe the first Oaterian history comes from another land known as "Canada" when the land that is now Oateria was involved in a freak quantum accident, transporting it to Augusta. The populace of this land then became the first Oaterian tribals.

The land that would become Oateria has been inhabited by various indigenous tribes for thousands of years, with the earliest known civilization being the Zerdan people who settled in the region around 4000 BCE.

After many years of tribal creation, the region was conquered by the expanding empire of the Mongolyn. The Mongolyn brought with them their language, culture, and government systems, which greatly influenced the development of Oateria. However, despite being ruled by the Mongolyns, the Oaterian people maintained their own distinct identity and culture.
During the peak of the Mongolyn Empire, a movement to end the occupation of the tribals' land began to gain momentum. This movement was led by Dekkel Vastch, and the tribals were called "Wildemen" or "Vikings", and they defeated the Mongolyn, which was one in many losses that caused the fall of the empire.

The tribes eventually grew into the six (soon five) nations: Oatseria, Zerdan, Bandervai, Yunekia, Popnes and Tadpene. Tadpene was annexed by Bandervai, and while Oatseria and Zerdan bickered often, there was largely peace between the five nations until the War of Red River (more commonly known as the second Aerlanic-Mongolyn war), when the Mongolyn and Bandervai invaded Oatseria, planning to then take over Zerdan. However, with cooperation between Oatseria, Aerlanic, and the Zerdan, they were defeated. After the war the five kingdoms formed together to become the Republic of Oateria, with general and politician Captain Eljad Vaelic being the first president.

After becoming the modern day republic, Oateria quickly began to industrialize and modernize. The country experienced a period of economic growth and prosperity, which led to the development of new industries, such as manufacturing and agriculture. The government also implemented various social and economic reforms, aimed at improving the lives of the Oaterian people.

Oateria soon entered its imperial period, where the nation entered a rapid growth period and tried to establish colonies across Augusta. Most of these failed, although one of the most notable events during this time was the War of Maufesia with Rei Khan. Initially, the island of Maufesia was contested between Oateria and Rei Khan, however the rest of the world asked the two nations to not go to war, mostly in irritation from previous Oaterian-Mongolyn conflict. Originially, the two nations tried to peacefully settle the island, but these plans fell through. Oateria won, mainly due to their quicker navy to the island to overtake Maufesia.

The latter half of Oateria's imperial period was heavily marred by piracy. Stajilir Helberova was by far the most famous Oaterian pirate, battling merchants, pillaging cities, and stealing from other pirates. His escapades made him popular both with his crew and the Oaterian populace. However, after the conquest of Maufesa, Oateria seemed to be content with its conquests, and instead focused towards domestic developments.

The Age of Oaterian Enlightenment, also known as the Oaterian Enlightenment, was a period in Oaterian history that lasted from the late 18th century to the late 19th century. During this time, there was a great cultural and intellectual movement in Oateria, characterized by a focus on reason, critical thinking, and individual freedom. During the Age of Oaterian Enlightenment, many Oaterian thinkers, writers, and philosophers developed new ideas about government, society, and human nature. They emphasized the importance of individual rights and freedoms, and advocated for the separation of powers in government. They also promoted the ideals of equality, democracy, and the rule of law.

Prominent figures of the Oaterian Enlightenment include philosophers such as Rujan Temskov, Tahara Elsonic, and Dartov Justovic, who greatly influenced the development of political and social thought in Oateria and beyond. Many of their ideas and principles were later incorporated into the constitutions and political systems of Oateria, defining its current representative system which had defined voting districts which produced their own laws rather than a fully federal entity. The Oaterian Enlightenment also saw a flowering of the arts, with notable figures such as Natrivo Masanovic, Jeriska Ackludic and Suderet Jekeva contributing to the era's musical legacy, and with Enlightenment thinkers such as Alteriskas and Menje Astervin making important contributions to literature.

The steampunk era in Oateria, also known as the "Age of Steam," was a period of rapid industrialization and technological advancement that occurred between the mid 1800s and early 1900s. During this time, Oateria saw a significant increase in the use of steam power in transportation, manufacturing, and communication.

The steampunk era was characterized by the rise of the middle class and the growth of a consumer culture. Many of the new technologies and innovations that emerged during this time, such as the steam engine, telegraph, and telephone, were aimed at making life easier and more efficient for the average person.

One of the most notable developments of the steampunk era in Oateria was the expansion of the railway system. Steam-powered trains became the primary mode of long-distance transportation, connecting the country's major cities and helping to spur economic growth. In addition to transportation, the steampunk era also saw advancements in communication technology. The telegraph and telephone were introduced, allowing for faster and more efficient communication across the country.

The steampunk era was also marked by a growing interest in science and technology among the general population. The steampunk era in Oateria also had a significant impact on fashion and culture. The Victorian aesthetic, characterized by ornate and elaborate clothing and accessories, became popular. Many people dressed in clothes with a dark brown influence. The steampunk era in Oateria came to an end with the advent of the internal combustion engine and the widespread use of electricity. However, the legacy of this period lives on in the form of steampunk-inspired art, fashion, and culture that still exists in Oateria today.

In 1908, Gondor annexed a large part of the Zerdan region in Oateria due to Gondorian buildup of military on the Oaterian border. Gondor did this in order to access the Rei Khan border easier, as well as gaining contested land between Oateria and Gondor, as Zerdan is usually seen as half human, half elf land.

The Sigh of Banderviss was a terrorist attack that happened in 2003 committed by the Sons of Banderviss, a Bandervi supremacist group, which involved bombs being laid in the Banderviss City Hall, then being detonated at around 1:16 PM on May 8, 2003. 312 deaths occurred when the bomb went off and about 489 later when the main lobby of the city hall collapsed. About 2,368 were injured during the initial explosion and then during rescue efforts. The group responsible, the Sons of Banderviss, were very quickly captured and the main ringleaders of the attack, Jedeson Vacic, Mokijet Lastad, and Yoniji Petterich were drawn and quartered, and Lasted and Petterich were sent to Burkieg, Oateria’s maximum security prison where the “worst of the damned” are sent, according to future inmate Jaj Yerbin. The Sons of Banderviss were sent into hiding and they are believed to be in rural Banderviss, where the Oaterian government are still trying to track them down. Although some believe they have completely disbanded there are still occasional murders of Oatserians and Zerdans in Bandervai, as well as an infamous kidnapping of a twelve year old belonging to an aristocratic family who were preparing to flee Oateria in the wake of the Civil War, as they had collaborated with Jaj Yerbin.

The Oaterian Civil War was a conflict that took place in 2020, where a faction led by then-president Jaj Yerbin attempted to overthrow the rest of the senate. Yerbin, a former general in the Oaterian military, had grown disillusioned with the senate, believing them to be getting in the way of what he considered to be much-needed reforms. He believed that the government was too weak and that Oateria needed a strong leader to guide it through difficult times. Yerbin's faction, made up mostly of disaffected military personnel and conservative politicians, launched a surprise attack on the capital, Raziel, in an attempt to capture key members of the government. The attack was initially successful, with the faction quickly gaining control of key government buildings and infrastructure. However, the government was able to rally support from the population and the military, and a counter-offensive was launched to retake the capital. Senator Koros van Bamber of the Oaterian Democratic Coalition was a heavy leader in taking back the capital. Despite initial gains by Yerbin's faction, the government was able to gain the upper hand, and the faction was eventually defeated. Yerbin was captured and subsequently tried and convicted for war crimes.

While the Civil War had only lasted for two weeks it had a heavy effect on Oaterian politics and seemingly killed any power the Keep Oateria Safe Party had in the government.

In recent years, Oateria has been focusing on rebuilding and modernizing its infrastructure and economy. The government has invested heavily in transportation and communication, with a particular emphasis on the expansion of the railway system. The country has also been working to develop its technology sector, with a number of startups and tech companies emerging in recent years.

Despite these efforts, Oateria still faces a number of challenges, including expanding the amount of land used as a result of Oateria's humungous population, as well as ongoing tensions with neighboring countries. However, the government and people of Oateria remain committed to building a better future for the country and its citizens.

The Oaterian sitcom "Farm to Wenbale" premiered in the 1950s and quickly became a hit among audiences. The show follows the life of a simple farmer named Jakob, who moves from his small rural village to the bustling metropolis of Wenbale in order to start a new life. Jakob, who is portrayed as a lovable and down-to-earth character, struggles to adapt to the fast-paced and modern lifestyle of the city. He faces challenges such as finding a job, navigating the public transportation system, and making friends in the big city.

The show's comedic appeal comes from Jakob's fish-out-of-water scenarios and the culture clash between the small-town farmer and the urbanites. Jakob's naivety and lack of city knowledge often leads him into amusing and humorous situations. But despite his struggles, Jakob remains determined to make a success of his new life in Wenbale. "Farm to Wenbale" also features a strong supporting cast, including Jakob's neighbor, a wise-cracking and street-savvy woman named Lila, who serves as Jakob's confidant and guide through the city. These institutions are known for their comprehensive curriculum, with a strong emphasis on liberal arts and sciences. The Oaterian higher education system is also unique in that it includes a mandatory military education component for all students, although this is only activated during times of war or national emergency. In technicality all Oaterian colleges are military schools, although most could be mistaken for them being normal college campuses, because they functionally act like it.

The colleges and universities in Oateria are considered to be some of the finest in the world, with many renowned professors and researchers among their faculty. They are also known for their state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced research labs, cutting-edge technology, and modern sports and recreational facilities.

One of the defining characteristics of Oaterian higher education is the emphasis on hands-on learning and real-world experience. Many of the colleges and universities offer extensive internships and co-op programs, allowing students to gain practical experience in their chosen field before graduating. This approach is said to prepare students well for a successful career after graduation.

It's not like you're profiting off of this or anything. You're crafting lore for yourself for a video game; how you do that is up to you!

I mean I might write a novel based in Oateria but I'm definitely not using an AI to write it.

Thank you for your answer, makes me feel a bit better about it.

Interesting thought I just had in regards to the writing system used by the Roxium Federation's Pogashanese language: It's somewhat possible to refer to a number of Augustan nations using just Kata-Gi.

Kata-Gi are (Usually) logographic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logogram) letters that work similarly to Chinese characters and Japanese kanji. While there are no Kata-Gi that can directly represent Augustan Nations, it is possible to use strings of them to represent an Augustan nation. For instance, Aerlanica can be somewhat represented in Kata-Gi by using the one for Augusta followed by the one for Wasteland, Galliadurm can be represented as a string of Kata-Gi that roughly translates to "Island southeast of the Augustan wasteland", and New Drachma can be represented with a string of Kata-Gi that roughly translates to "Nation due north of the Augustan wasteland"

Although it is technically in my factbook this is still a loredump because this is slightly more detailed:

One of Oateria's most famous and widely played video games is called "The Bandercross Complex" which is about a fighting tournament run by a secret worldwide illuminati. The way the game plays is similar to Guilty Gear and has characters from all over Augusta, including an Aerlanican psychic, a Roxian bounty hunter, a young Kansan girl who also is a ranger for the illuminati, and a former RKBI member trying to find out more about the secret government. The game series is well known for its online component and while a majority of the player base is Oaterian, it's also popular in several other nations. The next installment, Banderviss Complex Cross Ultimate, is set to release in September of 2023.

The OBL season runs from March to September, with the All-Star Game taking place in July and the Tojic Championship taking place in October. The Tojic Championship is a best-of-seven playoff series between the champions of the Eastern and Western Conferences. The Adreti Crokes won in a 7 game series against the Wenbale Witch Doctors.

In addition to the professional league, baseball is also popular at the amateur and youth levels in Oateria. Little League baseball is a common pastime for children and many schools have baseball teams. The Oaterian national baseball team also competes in international tournaments, including the World Baseball Classic. The sport of baseball has a deep cultural significance in Oateria and is enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds. The Oaterian Baseball Hall of Fame is in Raziel.

Badgerball is a sport that originated in Oateria and is heavily similar to handball. The game is played by two teams of six players, who try to score points by throwing a small rubber ball into the opposing team's goal. The sport is played on a court that is similar in size to a handball court, with three horizontal lines marking the playing area. The sport is believed to have originated in the mid 20th century, when a Yunek gym teacher invented it when his students were complaining about playing dodgeball too often.

Over time, the sport evolved to incorporate elements of other Oaterian sports, such as the use of a smaller ball. The sport gained popularity throughout the country and eventually became known as Badgerball. Badgerball is a physically demanding sport that requires players to have good hand-eye coordination and quick reflexes. The sport is known for its fast-paced action and high level of physical contact, and players are required to wear protective gear to prevent injuries.

The Oaterian Badgerball Association (OBA) is the governing body of the sport in Oateria and is responsible for organizing competitions and promoting the sport at the grassroots level. The OBA organizes the Badgerball League of Oateria (BLO), which is the top-tier league of the sport and features the best teams from around the country. The league contains 12 teams and is mostly based in the Yunek region, although there are two teams outside of it, one in Raziel and one in Feltov-Tashis. The OBL season runs from April to September and culminates in the OBL Championship Game, which is played in front of a packed stadium and is one of the most watched sporting events in Oateria.

Oaterian art encompasses a diverse range of mediums, including film, television, and video games. In recent years, Oaterian film has gained international recognition for its unique storytelling and visual style, with many Oaterian films receiving awards and nominations at prestigious film festivals. One of the most notable figures in Oaterian film is director Ivana Marjanovic, who has received critical acclaim for her films "Final Train" and "The Red Room." Marjanovic's films often explore themes of identity and belonging.

Another famous film series is the "Outland Ranger" saga by Hejesk Dakatic, which is internationally well known and is arguably Oateria's largest brand behind the OBL. Originally it started off quaint, simply about a man getting revenge for the death of his brother by a mercenary, but has evolved into chronicling the story of an entire galaxy and alien creatures.

In television, Oateria has a strong tradition of both drama and comedy series. "The Family Business" and "The Streets of Pline" are considered two of the most iconic and successful dramas in recent years, both exploring themes of crime, corruption, and family dynamics. On the comedy front, "The Unknown Four" and "Bakers" have gained a cult following for their wit and clever humor. "Typhoon" is a recent crime drama that has taken the nation by storm.

The show also starred a cast of other city dwellers, who Jakob encounters during his time in the city, like his boss, a stuffy businessman, a kind-hearted landlady, and a group of coworkers with their own quirks and personalities.

Education

In Oateria, higher education is provided by a system of colleges and universities that are largely funded by the government.
