Hey all, I'm stopping by to let you know that I may take a short hiatus. My wife's health took a turn for the worst, so our daughter and I are going to the hospital tomorrow to say our goodbyes. I will be back, I just need to step away for a little bit to take care of things on the Homefront. Thank you all for being a great group of folks.

Take all of the time you need. Losing somebody is always very very hard. Especially a wife. Please do not feel pressured to be active on Nationstates with the degree of this problem. When you finally feel ready to come back, we will welcome you still.

Thank you all for the kind words. The last week has certainly been a new experience for me and my daughter, but we're getting through this. To say that it is an adjustment is kind of an understatement, but I find myself looking back on the all of good instead of the bad. The great news is there is a lot of good that can be looked back on with fond memories, and the bad while severe at times are few and far between. In addition to kind words and messages of support, I've also talked to others who have lost and their stories have given me ideas of finding ways to cope. I remember the first full day after and how it felt like there was something missing, and it reminded me of an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where it was explained how Data perceived relationships; "As I experience certain sensory input patterns, my mental pathways become accustomed to them. The inputs eventually are anticipated and even missed when absent". Now, that is not to say that I am an android...I've checked lol. It was just the best way I could come to terms with what I was experiencing that day.
Thankfully, I've got a lot of good people that have been helping in real life, on facebook, and, as I saw here on our RMB, here. She never joined NationStates, but she definitely got a kick out of the stories I shared with her about the menagerie of people we have here. In terms of a nation here, the Federation lowered our flags and flew the Black Flag of Mourning for a time, but time marches on. So does the Federation. Thank you all again for the kind words.

This month.... I've never been so happy to have a month be ending before. My grandmother on my father's side passed away on the 7th, on the 16th, the day after her funeral, my grandfather on my mother's died, and then on the 28th one of my best friends committed suicide. I've never been so ready for a month to end and I need a drink. A big one.
I hope everyone else is doing okay. Do me a favor though, call your people, tell them you love them because some day you won't be able too anymore and it just blows.

I used to have to resurrect my old nation's all the time. I meant it was technically only once every few months but it was still annoying.
It's certainly not optimal. Now that I have two screens maybe I can leave Hillop's government screen in the background of screen two. That could just be wishful thinking too
