LGBT: Parliament to hear debate on marriage definition change on 28 May
Prime Minister Hideyoshi Kaburagi has announced that the Republican Party will be opening a debate on the definition of marriage in the constitution on 28 May 2021, in a major step forward for LGBT equality.

“The time has come for us to put this matter to rest once and for all”, said the Prime Minister, speaking to reporters outside Parliament. “It is not enough that we stop discrimination- we must also fight to ensure that all citizens are equal, and that includes in marriage.”

At present, because the Constitution defines ‘marriage’ as ‘a union between man and woman’, same-sex marriage is technically still not recognised in Nagakawa, although gay couples may enter civil unions which carry the same legal benefits as marriage. The constitutional amendment proposed by the Republican Party would change the wording to ‘a union between consenting adults’, thus recognising same-sex unions as legal marriages, and also further clarifying the age at which one may legally enter a marriage (i.e. 21, or legal adulthood).

Nobody Cares: Asuka Iruka’s new album breaks chart record
Nobody Cares, the 8th studio album by glam rock singer-songwriter Asuka Iruka, has topped the Nagakawa Records Chart for 89 consecutive days, breaking the record formerly held by punk rock group F#KKU’s 13th studio album Swing Both Ways (2006). Previously, Swing Both Ways had been No. 1 on the NRC for 88 consecutive days, before dropping to second place upon the release of boy group Jumping Jack’s Tell Me to Go Home (2006).

33-year-old Asuka Iruka, whose real name is Asuka Hiranuma, is known for her elaborate instrumentation and her distinctively boyish and vulnerable vocal quality, as well as her use of a violin bow on acoustic guitars to produce a unique sound. She does not reveal her face to the public, and always appears in public wearing a kitsune mask that covers her whole face, along with traditional kimono. Her fifth album, Yamata no Orochi (2011), became the first album by a solo female artist to remain on the NRC’s top spot for more than a month, having remained No. 1 for 47 days total.

“What Asuka has achieved is phenomenal”, said Miyuki Yamamoto, the drummer of F#KKU, who goes by the stage name ‘Dirty B!tch’. “I hope all the girls who listen to her music see this and know that they can achieve anything.”

Nobody Cares is Asuka Iruka’s shortest album to date, comprising only 6 songs and with a length of 36 minutes. It is a concept album detailing the story of a nameless and masterless female assassin on a revenge mission against her master who had betrayed her and left her for dead.
