anyway, i found some old board game from 1986 in my closet while i was clearing it out. i forgot to take an image of the box, so here's one from ebay.
there's 6 maps, each with 1986 borders. i didn't feel like taking pics of all 6, so here's europe. the borders are all fuzzy for some reason and belgium is on many drugs but not too bad
there's some instructions i didn't read, since i wasn't going to play it and i was really only opening it for old borders and flags. there's also a box of pins without the pin part, for some reason.

anyway, now onto the good stuff. the flags. first of all, the colors were usually a bit off, and the dimensions were changed to fit with the style, which is forgivable. what isn't forgivable is the lack of orange. most flags with orange on them use yellow instead, except bhutan, for some reason. and the asia cards even have an orange outline. very confusing.
besides cyprus having the yellow, the laurels look strange, and it's in asia?????
the djibouti flag is messed up on very many levels.
in 1986, the afganistan flag was this.
why the red is replaced with a light yellow i have no idea.
according to the grand wikipedia, the flag of saint vincent and the grenadines had white lines until march 1985, when they were removed, and then in october 1985 the flag was changed to the current one.
but the card (from 1986) has the double outdated white lines version. hmm
green qatar. it's just green qatar. no excuses, no reason it should be green. the flag of qatar has always been purple-red. i have nothing to say about this.
yet another outdated flag, this time it's cambodia. this one was just really lazy, it had been changed for 5 years.
the peru flag shown on the card is the variation flag.
this one is just a mess. in 1986, there was a variation flag of seychelles, which had red and green.
those two colors are notable for not being pink and blue. i have no idea how they messed up this bad.
and, to save the best for last, mongolia. i have not been able to find what this flag is anywhere. help
