Ha, you think the Canadians will stop anything? They don't need land borders. All they need is the Internet.
Issue about the bases? They are the testament to the fact that the US spends billions on their overseas territories, where people have to be stationed in a heavily guarded area in a foreign country, often extremely far away from their family, while Americans are experiencing broken healthcare, education systems, and failing infrastructure. Also, they can commit any misdemeanour as they want without the host country having any say because they need to respect their sovereignty. The bases are purely within own interests and benefit the country basically at all. This is the reason why people all around the world watch the US elections in agony, to see what dumb idiot or foreign puppet will be inheriting all the instant destruction hotspots right on their soil.
You mean Colombia. Columbia only exists as the capital District of the US and British Columbia, a Canadian province.
Also, all the democratic government toppled by the US replacing them with dictators in the name of democracy. Right.
Guantanamo Bay predates communist Cuba.

I’m going to go with the assumption you’ve never served, but maybe you’ve had family serve, so some of this might get through.

You act as if the US one day decided to become the world police force. It’s a chore that was forced on us by countries either not strong enough one on one, or those who shirked on their responsibilities. You can decide where you fit in there.

Yes we spend an inordinate amount on military, and I personally would prefer we spent it on some of those very things you mentioned, but reality has a way of negating wants and desires. You think Americans enjoy sending our loved ones to die on some foreign shores? I can assure you we’d love to bring our people home and watch the world spin on.

Do you even know what it takes to place a military base anywhere? And yes, military personnel fall under agreements for discipline that gets negotiated with the host country. And if you think Military Justice is all warm and fuzzy, I’d suggest you look up the military code of conduct they operate under. It’s no where as forgiving as civil courts.

The stickmin empire wrote:Ah, I see you mentioned Canada and Americas "broken" healthcare system in the same sentence, while yes our healthcare system is WAY too expensive it is still far better than the free Canadian healthcare system and of a better quality, we have faster and higher quality treatment while they have to wait for longer for a simple procedure, and the waiting doesn't even pay off as much, but yes it is way to expensive, there is no way a ambulance ride should be a $1000 endeavor.
And you are right in some regards, our education system is broken and old, we invaded Panama too setup the canal there for or own interests toppling a decent government to do so

Because Canada's is subpar doesn't mean that the US's is good compared to the money given. Same thing goes with higher education. I can go to university for free, while an American student will most likely be in debt for a sizeable chunk of the rest of their lives. There are several people in the US with severe life-long illnesses that can barely afford their medication without sacrificing everything else in their life.

I'm not talking about the military personnel alone. Do relatives living with the stationed operate under the same "code of conduct"?
Also, that's naïve. The US has extreme levels of weaponry, including long-distance drones, ICBMs, and nuclear bombs. What purpose exactly do the dozens of military bases in Germany serve? To stop Russia? You saw what happened in Ukraine. I highly doubt they're necessary. The US intervenes only when it is within its interests. It isn't the "world police" because it has some kind of moral responsibility, it is to strengthen its own power and leverage to stop competing rivals. And no, nobody in my family has served anything. In fact, my family's religion bans involvement in any branch of the armed forces, which led to thousands of members of it to be imprisoned for it. So no, I do not see the military in a positive light.

On base, dependents are subject to military justice. Off base, dependents are subject to local laws, unless memorandums have been negotiated to have them fall under military justice.

Yes the US has all those weapons, and so does every other major power and even the 2nd tier nations. I suppose you have a point, maybe something along the lines of “if the US gave up its weapons, the rest of the world would put down theirs, and we’d all hug fluffy kittens and make ice cream together”. And yet, I have the sneaky suspicion that without the US acting as a block, a lot of the other major players would happily run amok. And I’m sorry you weren’t alive for the Cold War, but even today, the bases in Germany serve as advance staging areas for US troops in case Russia does attack, or we need to put troops somewhere more easily supplied from them then the US mainland. And you as a European has to ask why your country and other European countries are doing diddly to help Ukraine, except for thoughts and prayers of course.

I’m not even going to address the fact that others have sacrificed so that you can feel morally superior by pounding your chest about religious objections, but what are you going to do when they don’t want to carry you anymore?

No, I'm afraid since Saint Cinder's Manga Bible Camp is needing new members to fulfill our club story arch you are going to have to fulfill yourself as our main MC protagonist. Together with the edgy backstory of spiky haired Drystar-kun, and that one smart guy with glasses Iym winterless-write your book already, not to mention the waifu material known as Rebeltopia-Chan, you will have to use the power of friendship and screaming to defeat the dark lord Amerion-dono. I don't pound my chest, because I don't consider myself as part of it anymore. However, war is waged by states against states. I'm not participating in any of the "sacrifice" nonsense, because countries might as well play chess with bomb robots and it would be the same. If Russia and the US and its allies have a live hot confrontation, no amount of manpower will save either country, nor humanity as a whole. Heck, the US has extreme internal conflict anyway. Also, the US does not have any bases in Sweden.
