Yes.

You're mistaken. I take medication for my epilepsy, which I've had for 16 years now. The new medication just has some side affects my previous ones didn't. It's very disorienting sometimes. Such as today.

Medicine is unnatural, like WMDs.

My wife has been diagnosed with epilepsy since she was 13, and she turns 30 in a few months. Her seizures are pretty bad. She has petite Mal and grand Mal seizures. What sucks in addition to that, is that she requires two name brand medicine. Which would cost us around $6k a month with insurance if we got it here in the states. So we order them from Canada for $500 a month, and it takes a month to get here. Sometimes there’s an issue with it being late, or on manufacture back order, and I have to pay the exorbitant costs to cover the period of time till we get it from Canada.

So I understand a bit of what you’re going through, and I hope you’re okay.

She's not much older than me then. I hope she doesn't take Keppra. That stuff is notorious. There was a recall recently for Lamitrogine. Don't remember exactly why. I think a few batches were contaminated with something.

Thanks, I could honestly be much worse. I hope you're wife is well too.

Believe me I was as bewildered as you are.

I’m not sure what she used to be on. But the first two years she had been diagnosed with epilepsy, she has next to no memory of since her seizures were so bad, at least 20 a day. Mixed with trying to figure out which medicine she need to be on, some of which even made her hallucinate. She is fine now. She’s on name brand Lamictal and name brand Zonegran, and it works. Sometimes she will have break through Grand mal seizures That happen once a year or so. But I believe that’s when she’s extremely stressed or fatigued. And then there’s the occasional petite Mal seizure that she will have maybe once a month.

Ah yes, Lamictal is Lamitrigine. You might want to look into the recall notice to make sure her pills don't pose a threat to her health.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be sure to have her look into it.

Edit: the contamination was with hypertension medicine, and affected 100mg tablets. My wife takes 200mg tablets. All safe here.

That it does. It also sustains lives which natural selection is attempting to claim.

Technological society as a whole stops natural selection. Unless you are a luddite, your belief in natural selection is shallow.

Right, and actually, the distinction between "natural" and "man-made" is spurious, because human beings are part of nature, so all human activity is part of nature too.

There's nothing unnatural about using technology to prolong human lives, especially if humans are the ones doing it. Humans using advanced pharmaceuticals to prolong life is exactly as natural and unnatural as a bird building a nest to protect her eggs, or a tiger using its claws to kill its prey. Just because an activity is more complex, doesn't make it an exception to the inevitable processes of "natural selection". Selection is just a logical consequence of reality, not a philosophy that requires ideological devotion.

Coming back to that, its also worth noting that with antiepileptic medications, brand =/= generic. Neurologists always recommend prescribing by brand, as switching manufacturer can result in different secondary ingredients, which in turn can affect bioavailability and have a knock-on effect on seizure thresholds.

So basically, always insist that anti-epileptic prescriptions are by brand.

That doesn't apply for most medicines, of course, just for epilepsy.

*sips orange juice*

Come on then.

Human nature is that of hunter-gathering not complex society. Humans reaction to social awkwardness makes social awkwardness stronger. I could continue to cite examples of how human society is not natural. Humans are animals and as animals, we have a habitat. We have now been completely removed from our natural enviroment which is why so many ills exist such as depression, social anxiety and so on.

Technology is not unnatural but industrial technology is. Humans are not supposed to live for a 100 years. This is a product of industrial technology. Humans in their natural enviroments lived to thier 20s, had children and died satisfied that they completed their role in nature, reproduction. Industrial society now creates a mass of people who live unsatisfied and has created a thriving market for "fulfillment". Human life is now completely "unfulfilling" because we are not in our habitat. Animals removed from thier natural habitat behave very strangely. Humans are never talked about when it comes to animals removed from habitats but the consequences are everywhere.

Natural selection is mostly dead in industrial societies because of modern medicine forcing undesirable traits to continue.

A well thought out essay on this topic is the essay "Industrial Society And Its Future".

Alright I don't know about everyone else but I've grown tired of this conversation. If y'all would like to continue in TGs that's fine. But apparently some of you can't help yourselves from advocating for genocide and cheering on Hitler. This ain't the place for that and if anyone wants to make that argument your posts will be suppressed. I'd also rather we not "feed" the folks who are looking to have this argument. Also please remember to follow the rules on doubleposting:

Rejected Realms RMB - A Message Board Guide

The regional message board (RMB for short) is the space within the Rejected Realms (TRR for Short) that players and nations can post messages, hold conversations, debates, all sorts! It is free for any member of the region, or members of embassy regions to post on, so long as they stay within the rules.

One notable thing of the typical discussion on the RMB, is that it is within the rules. Despite TRR being a region where you can't be ejected, there are still rules that you must follow to partake on the RMB, and in the region, in good faith.

The Rules, the cornerstone of RMB etiquette. They are:
  1. Stay within NationStates rules
The NationStates rules apply to every Regional Message Board. Non-compliance will incur the wrath of NS Moderators, who can delete your nation. Please become familiar with these rules.

  2. Do not call for the overthrow of the regional government
The regional government is democratically elected, and they are limited on what they can do by the constitution, which is located here. Every important position in TRR is democratically elected, so the best way to ensure you have a say in the government is to apply for citizenship, and partake in elections.

  3. Do not make three or more posts in a row
Posting many times when no one has posted in between can disrupt conversation, makes it difficult for people to follow the RMB, and is spammy. If you have more to say use the edit button.

  4. Do not post hateful content
Hateful content is anything with the intention of insulting, or otherwise causing offence, to another person. This includes, but is not limited to, homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, and the promotion of hateful ideologies (such as fascism).

  5. Keep all messages Safe for Work
NationStates is a site used by all ages, and thus everything posted on the RMB must be appropriate. Any post which doesn’t will be immediately suppressed.

  6. Don’t quote suppressed messages
They've been suppressed for a reason, and you're likely to be suppressed if you quote them. Quoting a suppressed message and rewriting it as "snip" (or similar) is acceptable, but we recommend you do not engage with suppressed posts at all.

  7. Be respectful
While debates are allowed, flaming and personal arguments are not. You are also at risk of violating site rules. Be respectful of others with alternative views. Always attack the argument, not the person behind it.

  8. Don’t rehash past drama
Try to avoid complaining about your previous region, the reason they ejected you, or your past and how you ended up here. We don't care about your past drama - TRR is the place for a fresh start, not be plagued by issues of the past.

  9. Think before you advertise
Advertising polls is fine, however advertising other regions or alternate offsite platforms for the region is strictly prohibited and will be suppressed.

  10. Stop when asked
If a Regional Officer or an NS Moderator asks you to stop, you must stop.

If you break any of these rules, you are liable to be suppressed, but it's relatively easy to stay within them, as they're aren't hard to follow!

People who very frequently break the rules may be put on Blanket Suppression. For information on Blanket Suppression, please read the dispatch below
page=dispatch/id=2005358

While not generally too harmful, one word messages aren't great as they clog up the RMB, interrupt and disrupt conversations, and entice others to follow in their footsteps and also post one word messages, so don't do it. It doesn't make the RMB interesting, it could discourage members from making posts and prevent others from having an actually decent debate.

Please provide an English translation if you're posting in other languages on the RMB. This is because English is the only language understood by all of our RMB moderators and it's hard to tell what is and isn't breaking the rules with other languages.

Doubleposting is allowed but discouraged, especially if your messages are short. Try to use the edit button instead.

Trolling and spamming comes into the jurisdiction of NS rules, so don't do it. Posting hateful comments, spamming messages, quoting and vastly changing someone's message (beside deleting it in its entirety) is not acceptable at all.

Alongside this, please do not engage trolls or spammers on the RMB, leave them alone to avoid being caught in the crossfire, if you quote or engage them there is an increased chance that you could get punished for quoting, encouraging or just speaking to them.
