Question of the Day: Do you believe medals are the proper way to honor heroism, or do you think that great bravery should be rewarded in a more utilitarian way?

Map rules:

  1. Players must post as their nations (in-character/IC or roleplay/RP) at least once every 28 days in the Roleplaying Paradise. If it has been 28 days since the last IC or RP post, or a nation has ceased to exist, the nation can be considered inactive.

  2. Nations that become inactive for more than seven (7) days are considered "expired" and may be annexed by other nations. Expired nations will be colored light gray on the map with red lettering.

    1. The 7-day period between inactivity and expiration is to allow for other players to watch how the geopolitical situation goes and for the player to reactivate the nation that ceased to exist.

    2. Nations will be considered expired 36 days after their previous IC or RP post or 7 days after the nation ceased to exist, whichever comes first.

  3. Nations that have been expired for more than seven (7) days after they are considered expired will be considered removed from the map, regardless of whether the map actually shows as such.

  4. Annexation should be a war RP (but does not have to be) between the annexing nation and the expired nation. Other nations may intervene as they see fit.

    1. If seven (7) days pass after the start of annexation and no other nations have intervened militarily against the annexing nation, the annexing nation may declare victory.

    2. Upon the annexing nation declaring victory, the expired nation will be relabeled to indicate that it has been occupied.

    3. Annexing nations must occupy an expired nation's land for at least one (1) week before they can begin fully integrating it.

    4. If war breaks out as a result of annexation and the annexing nation is victorious against other intervening nations, the annexing nation may declare victory against the annexed nation three (3) days after declaring victory against other interventions.

    5. Approved military factbooks are required for military-based annexations.

  5. If both the annexing and the expired nation are on the same landmass but do not share a border, the expired nation will not be integrated upon victory.

  6. If the annexing nation and the expired nation are on two separate landmasses (e.g. island vs continent), the annexing nation must occupy the expired nation for at least eleven (11) days before it can declare victory or total occupation. However, nations may not integrate territories on separate continents nor annex expired nations more than two thousand (2,000) miles (3,200 kilometers) away.

  7. Unintegrated territories may not contribute to a nation's total population or military personnel.

  8. If a nation has been expired for more than seven (7) days and no annexation efforts have been made, it will be considered removed from the map, regardless of what the map actually shows.

  9. New nations will be restricted to a size of no more than 2,000 miles (3,200 kilometers) from east-to-west and 1,500 miles (2,400 kilometers) north to south.

  10. Players who expired and returned to find their nation annexed will be entitled to an automatic successful liberation of their former map spot one time only. This free liberation pass is only if the expired nation has been integrated for less than one (1) month or was notably important in RP as determined by lore moderators. Alternatively, formerly expired players may continue roleplaying as a territory of the occupying nation.

  11. White/blank space is off limits for invasion.

  12. Nations must wait at least two (2) weeks after their last annexation attempt has been fully integrated (or aborted, depending on RP outcome) before starting another invasion and annexation.

  13. Nations who depart the region without notice may have their territories marked as expired immediately.

  14. When filling out the application, nations must specify their desired location and size. Vague answers, including but not limited to "anywhere" or "wherever," are grounds for rejection.

  15. Repeated expirations and reinstatement of territory is grounds for permanent removal from the map.

  16. New nations who do not make an RP post within two (2) weeks of a map update will be removed. It is recommended, but not required, that new nations who have received a notice of approval for the map begin posting in the Roleplay Paradise as soon as possible.

  17. Nations may only annex one expired nation at a time.

  18. If a nation annexes an expired nation that has overseas territories, those overseas territories will not be part of the annexing nation.

  19. The map is only for visualizing the current geopolitical situation; the age of RP posts will determine whether or not a particular nation is active, inactive, expired, or nonexistent.

  20. Players may have up to two (2) puppet nations on the map within a timeframe of two (2) months. These puppet nations will be subject to the same expiration and annexation rules as other nations, with the only exception being that the player's main nation may not annex them. Additionally, they may not share land borders.

  21. Players may request a leave of absence from the Cartographer on the Roleplaying Paradise Discord server in the #cartographic-advisories channel. By default, a leave of absence will make a nation become inactive after five (5) weeks without a roleplay post and expire the nation two (2) weeks after inactivity for a total of seven (7) weeks from beginning leave of absence to start of expiration. However, players may request a specific date for a leave of absence to end, after which the nation(s) will transition to standard inactivity and expiration rules.

    • Requests for leaves of absence are permitted but not recommended for periods of less than 28 days.

Map design regulations:

  • The designated font is Cambria, pure black (RGB code 0, 0, 0) or pure white (RGB code 255, 255, 255) depending on the nation's color. All text should fit on one line, but if the size of the landmass makes such a task impossible, multiple lines are allowed. Text will be italicized for player-controlled nations and unformatted for overseas territories. Expired nations will have their pretitles, if included, removed; the font color to be used is red (RGB code 237, 28, 36).

  • The map is to be edited with a program that allows for disabling antialiasing must be disabled to avoid stray pixels, e.g. Microsoft Paint or paint.net.

  • The colors to be used on the map will be limited to the basic color palette of the program used. Colors of countries on the map should be similar to that of their flag, but the Cartographer reserves the right to choose another color if neighboring nations do not permit as such. No nations bordering each other may have the same colors. Expired nations will be in light gray (RGB code 195, 195, 195) and bordering expired nations may have the same color.

  • Oceans and other bodies of water will be light turquoise (RGB code 153, 217, 234). Names of bodies of water will be turquoise (RGB code 0, 162, 232).

Liberated October 29, 2020

Fill out the application to request a map spot. The Cartographer reserves the right to ignore all requests not in the attached application.

  1. All RPs between two parties controlled by active players must be with consent.

  2. Technology will be limited to early Postmodern Technology (henceforth "early PMT").

    1. Early PMT is defined as all technologies that have existed in the real world to date and foreseeable technologies up to fifty (50) years into the future. Allowable examples include ship-based railguns, lasers not exceeding the ten-terawatt (10TW; ten trillion watts) range, autonomous weapons, nuclear fusion, and space launch mass drivers. Prohibited examples include but are not limited to plasma-based weaponry, energy shields, starships, starfighters and other similar spacecraft, and orbital weapons platforms using energy-based weapons like plasma or lasers. (Orbital platforms that fire physical warheads like the W87 warhead or tungsten rods are allowed but may be restricted by international law in RPs.)

    2. Players may have their nations' technology levels below early PMT, though it may be disadvantageous to have ancient weaponry.

    3. All technology must be grounded in science. Magic, sorcery, divine intervention, and other forms of mythical and mystical power will be prohibited.

    4. All technology is fallible. The "perfect weapon" does not, and will not, exist.

  3. RPs will occur on The Roleplaying Paradise ("RPP") regional message board.

    1. All RMB posts on the RPP must pertain to roleplay posts

  4. RPs involving wars or military action are prohibited unless:

    1. Both parties consent.

    2. War or military action is a response to the actions of another nation.

      • It is generally frowned upon to take military action immediately on smaller issues like one nation detaining another's citizen or citizens.

    3. War is used to annex an expired nation's territory.

  5. Nations wishing to participate in conflict roleplays must have documentation (e.g. NationStates dispatches or NSWiki) detailing their military forces and can only deploy roleplay to the extent that was written in their documents.

    1. New military factbooks will be analyzed by Saintrilu and/or any other designated roleplay moderator.

    2. Any conflict roleplay will be overseen by the roleplay mods to ensure compliance with these documents.

    3. Military documentation must list, at the basic minimum, the following:

      1. Total numbers of military personnel

      2. Total numbers of land vehicles (e.g. tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, transports, etc.)

      3. Total numbers of aircraft (e.g. fighters, bombers, transports, etc.)

      4. Total number of maritime vessels (e.g. destroyers, cruisers, submarines, etc.)

    4. Documentation must specify the existence or nonexistence of various service arms—e.g. air forces or naval forces.

  6. Players will make up their own statistics as their canon in the Roleplaying Paradise.

    1. Certain NationStates statistics (NS stats) will not be allowed for use.

      • These NS stats include the population, economic output, and industries on a nation's main page.

      • Other statistics may be considered if a correlation is specified in the nation's roleplay posts or factbooks.

    2. These statistics must be realistic compared to their nation size on the map. A player's nation cannot have a population of 500 million if its map location is the British isles.

  7. Players must accept the consequences of their nations' actions in RP.

  8. All players, regardless of their status on the map, will be allowed to undergo RPs involving their nations' internal affairs (internal RPs).
    1. Internal RPs include but are not restricted to the day-to-day lives of citizens, government affairs, and military operations within home country borders.

    2. Players must have their map location confirmed by the Cartographer (i.e. acknowledging that their request has been received) for basic international RP.

      • "Basic" international RP is defined as establishing diplomatic relations with other nations and trading.

    3. Players must have a published map spot for advanced international RP.

      • "Advanced" international RP is defined as (but not limited to) armed conflicts between two or more parties, hosting international summits, and day-to-day interactions between two nations.

    4. Players wishing to participate in conflict RPs must have a factbook or dispatch detailing their armed forces.

  9. Godmodding and metagaming are prohibited.

    1. Godmodding is defined as taking control of another player's characters.

      • Exceptions are limited to those of nations that have ceased to exist.

    2. Metagaming is defined as taking out of character knowledge and applying it to the RP.

    3. This rule does not apply when a nation is roleplaying on behalf of an expired or ceased-to-exist nation, for regulation purposes (i.e. to ensure compliance of an user with other Roleplay Rules or Map Rules).

  10. Players' nations do not have to be democratic.

  11. Nations will be human-only. Nations whose sentient populations are not human will be banned from the map.

  12. Players may briefly take control of other players for the sake of advancing the plot. The following guidelines will be the set way of provisional godmodding:

    1. The Primary Actor is the nation or entity making the initial or primary action.

    2. The Secondary Actor is the nation or entity to which the initial or primary action is directed at.

    3. The Secondary Actor is required, at all times, to respond to the Primary Actor, except when the Primary Actor has breached Rule 3A.

    4. The Primary Actor may invoke a provisional godmod if, within the past 36 hours, the Secondary Actor's most recent government activity (i.e. the most recent activity on NationStates) was after the initial action.

      • This may be waived if the Secondary Actor promises to respond by a certain date.

      • Example: Nation A makes a post where Nation B is the target at 00:00 midnight, Day 1. If Nation B's most recent government activity is 02:00, Day 1, Nation B must respond before 12:00 noon, Day 2 before Nation A can invoke provisional godmodding.

    5. The Primary Actor may invoke provisional godmodding 60 hours after the initial post if the Secondary Actor's most recent government activity was before the initial post.

      • Example: Nation B was last active at 09:00, Day 1. Nation A makes the initial post directed at Nation B at 11:59 before noon, Day 1. Nation B must respond by 23:59, Day 3.

  13. Roleplayers should attempt to consolidate all posts into one message.

  14. A nation should NOT modify or remove any parts of an annexed nation's established history.

    1. However, a nation may establish additional parts of history if said period of history is not present in the annexed nation's lore, or if no lore is provided. When in doubt, contact the annexed nation or a roleplay moderator for details.

  15. A nation should NOT modify the historical statistics (GDP, population, economic specialties, etc.) of an annexed nation.

    1. If making up more statistics or modifying statistics for the period after the annexation, the new or improved statistics should not be more advantageous than the annexing nation's mainland average.

  16. It is permissible to declare other nations' history as false or unknown.

    1. When establishing lore or writing official factbooks, however, what ever is written is fact and other nations may refer to it as legitimate information when roleplaying.

    2. It is permissible to issue two documents regarding one subject: "official information" (released by a nation's government) and "word of God" (actual information as-is)

  17. Nations should wait 30 days after occupying an expired nation before declaring said territory part of the national mainland.

    • This is an additional 20 days after the standard deadline for full integration in which the occupied nation is officially recognized as a territory or part of the annexing nation.

    • For bought or traded land, the nation collecting the land can establish it as their territory or mainland as agreed upon in the trade contract. No waiting period is required.

  18. Every post in the Roleplaying Paradise message board is considered to be in-character by default.

    1. If making an out-of-character post (i.e. as the player), prefix the post or out-of-character section of the post with "OOC." If there is also an in-character section in the same post, prefix that section with "IC."

  19. All puppets must be registered with a customs officer immediately after puppet creation.

    1. Unregistered puppets are a violation of the rules and will result in ejection from the region upon discovery.

Players who refuse to comply with these measures may be banned from RP indefinitely.

after your application it's accepted but your nation is still not on the map you can do limited international roleplaying (That means you can do any peaceful international contact), after your nation is on the map you can roleplay without limitations except the rules limitations, we roleplay in The Roleplay Paradise (but you need to stay in FNR and you can post in The Roleplay Paradise while remaining in FNR), and regardless of being on the map or not and have the application accepted or not you can do internal roleplaying (Roleplaying that regard only your nation and have no effect internationaly), If you have any question about the application you can always ask me.

Map rules:

I roleplayed for various months, I applied for become RP Moderator when the FNR Government was seeking to appoint new and more Moderators, the ones who applied for becoming RP moderators were interviewed including me, and among the ones who were interviewed I was chosen.

Question of the Day: Do you believe medals are the proper way to honor heroism, or do you think that great bravery should be rewarded in a more utilitarian way?

In a way, I think the badge is a good way to honor people. If it's not over-inflated then it carries significant meaning. Through that meaning there will be more side rewards.

I don't value medals or any other official forms of honouring that much - they tend to honour only those that benefit the state in some capacity, and they leave out many annonymous heroes who should get recognition but don't. That's why to me, honour comes from your acts themselves - any external recognition is more or less meaningless.

Total abandonment I guess.

Why not, that's a good thing! You should endorse our WA delegate Narvatus to gain citizenship if you so desire.
Endos are good way to build up influence. We also have competitions of who can endorse the most people every month.
