That's no problem my friend! If you [and anyone else reading this] would still like to get citizenshp in Thaecia, without moving your WA here, it's simple and easy to do so. I strongly suggest you get citizenship, as it allows you to have full participation in the region. Unlike a lot of regions, we don't have a long citizenship application process, so this will take you about two minutes.

If you have your WA nation in another region, but you have a puppet nation in Thaecia and wish to be a citizen, you can apply for a waiver!

In order to apply for a waiver, you have to telegram either the Prime Minister The Bigtopia or the Home Affairs Minister The Islamic Country of Honour from your WA nation stating that you wish to seek a waiver and also send a telegram from your puppet nation in Thaecia confirming your WA nation!

I'll just say with regard to political parties, it may seem like we have a lot but really there are only three active ones, NTN, NM, and TCU. And like Rhyssua said, they help engage people in politics. Running with a party helps people get into the mood of politics and keeps them engaged. That's really how I see it.

Edit: And also, I'll just say when I first joined Thaecia what attracted me the most was the political system with parties and elections as most regions do not have that.

Hey, you there! Yes, you!
Are you interesting in something new yet familiar? Something positive, something interesting, something to feel good with? Well, Solidarity might just be it for you!

Several parties and political groups have sprung up recently, which may have left you feeling slightly confused at what the heck is going on and who to choose for. Solidarity is a progressive and positive popular movement, wishing to constantly seek ways to improve our wonderful region and to co-operate in a peaceful way with our neighbours, and we are looking for new members with talent and ambition. We have been planning on re-introducing ourselves to Thaecia for a while now, but several factors sadly had kept y'all waiting... Until now!

So take a look at the updated manifesto of Solidarity, and consider joining or contacting us if you are interested! Enjoy the rest of your day, stay healthy, and stay hydrated <3

-Solidarity

Solidarity and Who We Are
Solidarity is a progressive and positive popular movement and one of a wide arrangement of parties and organizations in Thaecian politics. Concerning Thaecian politics, we are generally speaking of the progressive and interregional side of the political spectrum; wishing to constantly seek ways to improve our wonderful region and to co-operate in a peaceful way with our neighbours. That mentality has been and still is at the roots of our beliefs in what we think Thaecia should look like, and will become clear throughout this manifesto.
Solidarity is however much more than just a political movement. We are a group of friends, comrades and like-minded people who wish to see both Thaecia and the world become a better place. This has resulted, among other things, in the foundation of the United Worker's Union of Thaecia (UWU), originally an association to pressure Thaecian politics into bringing more direct change but by now a recognized part of Thaecian politics as a whole, and a close friendship with The New Majority, a group of people who came together online to fascilitate and educate on progressive IRL-activism in a world in which the threat of far-right and anti-democratic movements is on the rise once again.

Internal Working Of Solidarity:
  • Solidarity means respect and equality. All members hold and shall be treated by those values. There is no room for any form of fascism, racism, homophobia, or other forms of discriminatory and otherwise hate-endorsing values or speech within Solidarity.

  • Solidarity believes in a bottom-up structure of governance. All authority should come directly from the people, and in our case, from our members. That is why Solidarity is not led by one individual, but organized by a pair of organizers.

  • Organizers shall be internally elected one month after each Thaecian General Election and only differ from other members in the sense that they must set up the day to day internal working of Solidarity as defined by this manifesto and the members of Solidarity.

  • All important decisions by and for Solidarity are made by the members by the way of discussions or votes with the assistance of the organizers. Examples of such matters are the choices of candidates for elections, changes to this manifesto or member events.

  • Any member of Solidarity is free to vote or seek office as they please, but candidacies are first internally discussed and if necessary voted on with the assistance of the organizers. Anyone is free to join Solidarity if they agree with our values of respect and equality and if they agree to this manifesto. If one’s membership or candidacy is contested, both sides must be given the opportunity to voice their thoughts or concerns with assistance of the organizers.

On Thaecia and Domestic Affairs
Thaecia, especially to newer citizens, can be a very complicated region. Several topics or issues have been brought up throughout time that made for interesting debates and as interesting outcomes. From bi- VS unicameralism, to party VS independent politics, to the establishment of a regional military force, and much, much more. Here we will quickly explain the stances of Solidarity and give a short reasoning for them.
  • IRL Policies: Throughout the history of Thaecia, many policies have been added or removed from the Law Registry (L. R.), slowly ticking off every box of NS-based policies. We have great respect to everyone who has been working on the L. R. so far, and will continue to do so ourselves as well. That being said we at Solidarity also believe in the integration of more IRL- some would say RP- based policies. A climate emergency bill, a formal bill recognising and protecting LGBTQ+ rights, informative programs or initiatives on social activism, ... are just some examples. The recent passing of the Law Registry Act and current processing of Regulation of Yogurt Viscosity Act show that such integration is not impossible, and that is why we promote integration of said IRL-policies.

  • Uni- VS Bicameralism: The region is strongly devided between the choice of a unicameralist structure or a bicameralist way of organizing things. Referendums have proven this multiple times, often ending in a near 50/50 outcome. At Solidarity we have, as a result, no strong preference between the two; our only demand is that the system works. Expansions of the House of Commons to 15 seats is just one example of the system not working as it should, barely attracting enough candidates, let alone active members once elected. However, we still believe representation and direct influence of Thaecians is a necessity to our democracy, so while we stand in favor of a reduction of seats, referendums, we believe, should become the norm on topics that may require more popular input.

  • Communication: Open communication is key to democracy. There is a reason the internal affairs of Solidarity are pretty much completely organized by membership contribution. A government or authority that refuses to communicate about matters, pressing or not, has no legitimacy. For that reason Solidarity stands for- or rather demands open communication and democracy that is as close to the Thaecian people as possible of the Thaecian government at all times (with a possible exception for things like a secret santa).

  • Party- VS Independent Politics: One topic that has gotten more attention recently is the "end of party politics". Obviously we at Solidarity, being a political movement, are not a big fan of that statement, but not for reasons such as being "defenders of particracy" or wishing for "toxicity between parties". Political parties are formed out of political alliances, which, in turn, are formed out of similar views on how things should be, so in the end, parties are no more than people coming together because their ideological standpoints overlap. Because of that, we do not agree with people seeking to abolish or practically delegalise parties as a whole, because we do not agree with taking away people's choice and right to associate themself with like-minded people. Does this mean we wish to force independents to become part of a party or political assotiation? Of course not! Just because one person might disagree or dislike something, does not mean they should keep it from others, so taking such a stance would for us be nothing but hypocrisy.

On Interregional Affairs
As said before, members of Solidarity generally speaking tend to allign themselves with the more interregional side of things. That is to say, we beleive that working together with, instead of against, other regions is the better option. However, this does not mean we wish to allign Thaecia or ourselves with just any other region or organization. In this section we will explain our view on some topics relating interregional affairs and the position we believe Thaecia should take on the wider scale of NationStates.
  • Allignment With Other Regions: At Solidarity we believe that, while it sure has some limits and often finds itself struggling to find much long lasting success, cooperation and open communication with our neighbors are most benefitial. That being said, we do wish to set and continue certain limits or requirements: a zero tolerance towards fascist, alt-right, or other hate-endorsing regions and otherwise regions who knowingly host said beliefs without taking action on it is something we will defend with our lives. Respect for democracy and the people alongside us are necessities, core-vallues even, we hold close to heart and vow to protect.

  • A Thaecian Military: Recently, a Thaecian Military was re-founded after a poll was put out which showed enough support for that action. On this topic Solidarity prefers to hold a rather cautious position for a number of reasons. Because Thaecia has an organized system of endorsements and an active founder account, we do not need to hold much fear towards being raided; in that regard a military would not be necessary. Some regions, however, are not this fortunate, and, if these regions are of an inclusive, democratic nature, it should be our duty to help them out. That is called solidarity. On the other hand, if a region is found to be racist, discriminatory, fascist, or anything alike, we should do the right thing and stop such people from gathering and spreading hate or violence; for those situations a military is necessary. To conclude, at Solidarity we think a so-called non-alligned military under strict surveillance of all 3 powers of government would be the best option for our region.

  • Interregional Organizations: When looking at the most effective way of establishing good relations with other regions, so-called interregional organizations are probably the way to go. We Thaecians also have a strong feeling of pride towards our sovereignty however. Rightfully so. Obviously we at Solidarity hope to keep the relations we already have and continue to build (on) them, but if any alignment with other regions or collection of regions turns out to be undermining for our sovereignty and values of inclusion, tolerance and solidarity for one another, then we believe Thaecia should step away from them. We must work together, but only if it allows us to still work on ourselves first.

Introducing New Policies and Improving Old Ones
Solidarity is a progressive, reformative association of comrades. Here we believe improvement comes by constantly seeking ways to better ourself and the space around us, here that means Thaecia. Some of the points mentioned below have already been proposed or installed before, and we simply wish to continue them; others are completely new ways with which we hope to change the region for the better or get people more involved.
  • IRL Policies: Our main thoughts on this topic are already explained thoroughly in the section of Thaecia and Domestic Affairs, so we will do our best not to repeat ourselves, and instead further explain how we got here. Social activation is probably one of the most effective ways to get people involved in, well, social activism. That is why we at Solidarity believed and still believe it is good to introduce policies that will promote information and activation. Here mainly with a climate or educational bill/program in mind. On another point, something like formal recognition and protection of, for example, LGBTQ+ rights will not only help to make people feel more comfortable in Thaecia, but will also improve our reputation as a region.

  • Information And Education: Freedom and access to information, transparency, and with that the ability to hold a civil and well-informed discussion are essential to a healthy community. For that reason we promote and support any Thaecian initiatives to set up education programs by an/the Education Office, mock debates or court cases by the Justice Ministry, or other similar things. However, freedom to information also means access to information and vice versa. Solidarity condemns actions taken to, for example, remove factbooks with information on existing parties, or even to remove mention of them on ballots! If one is scared to give people access to information on the basis that they fear it might be propaganda against them, then that is scarily similar to censorship.

  • Executive Reform: Although it technically always has been present, a topic which has recently gotten some attention is that of the relationship between the several branches of government. Bills like L.R. 034 (concerning hearings of Ministers or other officials) are being brought up again and again, and at least some attention seems to be shifting towards limiting, or at least overseeing the power the executive branch holds. Many people have already opted to change the way ministries work, are structured, or stand in relationship towards each other, so at Solidarity we believe that this might be a good time as ever to open discussion on where we want the executive branch to go to, structure-wise, and what relation it should hold with the legislative branch and the people of Thaecia.

The other issue with "independents" is that you have the old independents who always have been so(take me as an example), whether by ideals or by policies. But today with no political parties everyone just masks themselves as "independent" as a good trait, while in reality most of them would just join a political party or have similar policies (if any) with others (the idea of compromise comes to mind). It's kinda just stealing other people's legacy for their own name.

Being independent isn't even about parties too. I can mask Cerdenia (who's been in parties for quite some time), you (who founded one) and Cinema (who founded and joined parties) as independents. Independency is just standing for your own ideals. For example, everyone knows Cerdenia & I are fanatics when it comes to efficiency v. bureaucracy. That's a defining trait of independence to me. That's also why I call a lot of people fake independents because, in the end, they only are by EC procedures.

Thaecia is a fiercely democratic user-created region (UCR) founded on January 22nd 2019. Its government structure and culture often confuses many foreigners. Therefore, if you find yourself unable to understand the region, allow me to try to explain. This guide will explain the Thaecian government, some Thaecian culture and some history where relevant. I hope this is helpful, and if not, be sure to send me a telegram asking for further clarification.

The Thaecian government is split into three branches, as is the case with many other democracies: the executive, the legislature and the judicial branch. Each branch has its own function and set of powers, each having their own way of regulating the other two.

In order to serve in the government, you must be a citizen. In order to be a citizen, a resident must be either a member of the World Assembly (WA) or must obtain what is called a WA waiver, where a WA nation sends a telegram to the Prime Minister, President or Home Affairs Minister confirming that a non-WA resident of Thaecia is under their control. WA-waivered citizens may have their citizenship revoked by the Justice Minister if there are reasonable grounds to do so (more on this later).

The executive includes the Prime Minister, Ministers and the President. The legislature is a bicameral congress which is comprised of the House of Commons (referred to as just 'The House') and the Senate. The judicial branch is comprised of the High Court.

All members of government (excluding the Secretaries) are expressly prohibited from holding more than one position in government by the Positions Restriction Reform Act (Legislative Resolution 48)

The executive branch of the Thaecian government includes a wide variety of roles. The most notable of the two are the Prime Minister and the President.

The President is the Head of State of Thaecia, and serves as our World Assembly Delegate. All Thaecian citizens are guaranteed the right to run in an election, so if a WA-waivered citizen runs and wins the Presidential election, they cannot become the WA delegate. Where this is the case, the elected president must pick a vice president to serve as the delegate, whilst retaining all other presidential powers. The president can:

  • assume the powers of the Prime Minister if the position is vacant for whatever reason, like a resignation.

  • call for a snap election for either chamber of Congress, on the condition that the Prime Minister & their ministers agree to it. Congress can block the snap election if two thirds of Congress opposes it.

  • ban citizens in the event of an emergency, on the condition that the Prime Minister & their ministers agree.

  • be impeached by the Senate and House with a 2/3s vote

  • veto the impeachment of the Prime Minister, if it obtained less than 2/3s support in the Senate

  • nominate a citizen to be the Electoral Commissioner (more on this later)

The Prime Minister of Thaecia is arguably the most powerful post in the region. The PM can:

  • nominate ministers

  • dismiss ministers.

  • enter and withdraw the region into and from inter-regional agreements, with Congressional approval.

  • assume some of the role of President if the President has been impeached

  • be impeached by the House with a 2/3s vote, followed by a vote in the Senate.

  • nominate Justices to the Court

The Ministers of Thaecia are nominated by the Prime Minister and are confirmed by the House of Commons. At minimum, there must be a Minister of Foreign Affairs (FAM), of Home Affairs (HAM) and of Legal Affairs (often called the Justice Minister, JM). Other ministries can be created at the discretion of the Prime Minister, like the Interior Ministry. There are also the Secretaries, who are technically not ministers, but are often considered one anyway. The various ministers have various regional powers, like embassies for the FAM, and border control for the JM. Ministers can be fired by the Prime Minister or removed from their post by the House.

The Thaecian Congress is split into the House and the Senate. The House is commonly referred to as Parliament, and it is the lower chamber, consisting of 11 Members of Parliament (MPs). The Senate is the upper chamber and consists of 7 Senators. The chambers have different powers and responsibilities. All legislative resolutions (LRs) must be approved by both chambers in order to become law. The House is elected every 2 months, the Senate every 4. The House can:

  • Confirm or refuse judicial and secretarial nominations from the President or Prime Minister

  • Initiate the process of impeaching the PM

  • Vote to impeach the President.

The Senate can:

  • Confirm or refuse cabinet nominations from the Prime Minister

  • Initiate the process of impeaching the President

  • Vote to impeach the Prime Minister

Legislation which passes Congress requires both chambers to vote, by simple majority, in favour of the bill. A simple majority is defined by the Constitution as 50% of the chamber + 1. Constitutional amendments require the approval of 2/3s of both chambers AND confirmation by public referendum with 60%+ support from the Thaecian populace.

The Senate is led by the Chairman of the Senate, and the House is led by the Speaker of the House. Both positions carry a great deal of authority, as they are responsible for maintaining Congress' documents, setting Congress' agenda and allocating time for the various stages of considering legislation. These leaders are selected by a Chairman/Speaker vote in their respective chamber, conducted immediately after an election. They can be removed from their posts by "constructive motions of no confidence". The motion requires a simple majority to pass and, if successful, automatically replaces the incumbent leader with a new Senator/MP without the need for another Speaker/Chairman vote.

The Judiciary consists of the High Court, which is made up of three justices. The justices, amongst themselves, pick one of themselves to be the Chief Justice, with the other two remaining as Associate Justices. The position of Chief Justice is largely an administrative one. The justices are nominated by the President and confirmed by the House of Commons. The Court is involved when one of 3 number of things happen:

  • A law is passed by Congress or an action is taken which is considered unconstitutional.

  • Someone or something allegedly commits a crime.

  • Someone sues another.

The Justices do not need to accept every case which is brought to the Court. They write their own procedures and, at the end of a case, they will post the Court's opinion. The Court has the power to undo a revocation of citizenship from a WA-waivered resident if it is found the revocation was unjust, the Court can undo a banjection, strike a law from the law registry if it is found to be unconstitutional, and impose punishments pursuant to L.R. 044. Justices do not have term limits and are only removed by resignation, ceasing to exist, or impeachment.

The Electoral Commission is an enormously important job here in Thaecia. The Commissioner manages all democratic exercises (referenda, elections, etc.) and have no political power. They are nominated by the President and confirmed by both legislative houses. The highest standard of impartiality is expected of Electoral Commissioners, and nominations are never considered lightly by the Thaecian populace, the President or the Legislature.

Elections in Thaecia take three forms: general elections, midterm elections and snap elections. General elections take place every 4 months and every elected post (PM, President, Senate & House) are all up for election. Midterm elections take place half way between general elections and only the House is up for election. Snap elections occur whenever an elected official resigns from their post.

The issue of whether or not to abolish the bicameral legislature in favour of a unicameral system has been around for very long time, and has often been a point of contention in the Thaecian community. Bicameralists often argue, amongst other things, that the bicameral system promotes scrutiny and an interest in regional politics, while unicameralists are convinced that it would actually decrease efficiency and scrutiny. The region had a referendum on the matter in April 2020, which was nail-bitingly close for both sides. It resulted in 35 votes being cast in favour of bicameralism with only 33 against it, and so the status quo has been maintained. However, a recent poll conducted by the Federal Post in April 2021 saw a narrow majority leaning towards unicameralism, with 48,3% of the voters in favour of implementing a unicameral legislative system, compared to only 41,4% that voted for keeping the bicameral system and 10,3% of the voters remaining completely unsure. An analytical comment on this poll mentions increasing disputes between the legislative houses as a reason for this shift in stances and predicts that this issue will once again become a major point of discussion in Thaecia in the near future.

Recently, political parties like Solidarity have pushed for the Thaecian government to adopt real life policies, like the declaration of a climate emergency. Proponents argue it is our duty as citizens of the world facing issues like climate change to recognise the issue even though Thaecia itself cannot do anything to help solve the issue. Opponents argue the lack of ability to do anything about it renders the issue moot.

Foreign policy in Thaecia has been dominated by the debate between whether to take an interregional approach or an isolationist approach. In the past, the interregional approach was taken, with membership of organisations like the Assembly of Regions and the proposition of joining the now-defunct Federal Union. Following ugly disputes with the Assembly of Regions, the status quo of Thaecian foreign policy has largely been settled. The commonly held belief is that Thaecia should seek friendship with other regions, but not at the expense of regional sovereignty. The region routinely refuses to change its internal policies when other regions attempt to pressure it, stemming from a fierce sense of Thaecian sovereignty and indepedence.

Linking in with the above, there has been a discussion relating to the region's recruitment policy. Some believe WA-wide recruitment is a useful tool to increase regional population and that the complaints of other regions should be ignored. Others believe WA-wide recruitment is obstructing the region from constructing meaningful friendships with other regions, and believe the policy should not be used in the future.

In May 2019, a group of real-life friends came to Thaecia and founded their own party, the Reformist Party. The months that followed were defined by the toxicity which followed caused by clashes between the Reformists, original Thaecians and inner conflicts within the original Thaecians. It is a time period which many Thaecians look back on with deep regret and sorrow, culminating in the Reformists' banjection from the region in August 2019. The time period, along with a time later on involving a disputed election, have changed Thaecian attitudes towards party politics majorly. Partisanship is scorned at and regularly discouraged as the prospect of returning to something similar to the Reformist era terrifies many.

Thaecia's discord server is, by far, the main communication method within the region. The server is very active, as many people from other regions have noted previously. The Thaecian community is very easy going and enjoys not taking itself too seriously. If you join the server, you will encounter a myriad of inside jokes, regional memes and cultural events. Regional memes include:

  • Korsinia, a former Prime Minister, is a god by the name of 'Godsinia',

  • Marvinville, a former Senator, is a genocidal maniac

  • Commanding Marvinville to get in the van

  • Calling Enadia clowns

  • A shadowy and omnipotent organisation pulling the strings of Thaecian politics, called the Thaestablishment.

  • Another shadowy and omnipotent organisation assassinating enemies of the Thaecian government, called the ThaeCIA.

  • The server owner, Andusre, being called Bandusre.

  • Regularly posing the question: "guise im smerv????"

  • Josh-level IQ jokes

  • Stand by for a projection/rejection/injection/banjection

  • Zoopolis, a person who tried to rig a Thaecian election months ago, being the ultimate decider of all Thaecian elections

  • and many, many, many more.

We have MEE6 in the server which posts regional memes with custom commands. We take memeing very seriously.

The region regularly holds mock hunger games, hosted by our culture ministry. We also regularly host games of skribbl.io, AtWar, have a Minecraft server, have participated in Paradoxical 2.0, Late Nite and Movie Nights in collaboration with regions like The East Pacific and have an economy bot in discord to play games like poker, blackjack, chicken fights and others on.

Thaecia is a young and great region full of wonderful people and funny jokes. It doesn't care very much if another region or a certain person (no matter how influential) likes it or not, no matter how loudly they rail against it. The region has a very strong sense of pride, independence and sovereignty and will defend its democracy, its community and its members at all cost. Regardless of what you may or may not have heard about the region, I strongly recommend giving it (particularly its discord server) a visit, as many people who come to visit love its relaxed atmosphere and near-constant activity. Thank you for taking the time to read this factbook, and as I mentioned above, if you want clarification on anything, please telegram me.

I feel like that it is time to close the book of the legacy of the TPU, being one of the longest surviving parties from the beginning, and being around for a wild ride. What will I do now? I don't know to be honest, maybe I'll join a new party, or maybe I remain Independent. But as of right now, I officially resign from the position of Chairman, and as a Member of the TPU. It's been an honour to serve as the chairman. I am leaving the party to @Andy for the fate of the party, we both agree that it's time to close the book. (Or I think that's what he said). Thank you!

I would like to make a statement in regards to the current vote in the House (and the Senate, but my post is related to the House)

To those of you who went against the House reduction act and are now voting for Senate reduction...you have completely flip flopped on this issue and I cannot express my disappointed enough. Every argument made right now that supports this forced and rushed Senate Reduction has only used blatant fear rather than facts. The evidence that was used was completely outdated.

The debate at this point isnt even fully about Senate reduction, its about forcing another referendum on people. And this referendum will not get many votes as noted by the referendum we literally just did. Why these MPs and Senators want 30 people to vote for a referendum rather than ensuring more Thaecians do it is beyond me.

To those in Congress, do Thaecia a favor and vote no.
