Happy birthday!!

Also, I've got a question. How do y'all feel about nuclear energy?

Could rapidly reduce our fossil fuel dependence and save a lot of lives in the process.

Cadenzana wrote:Also, I've got a question. How do y'all feel about nuclear energy?

I believe that nuclear energy is better than coal and fossil fuels but not as good as hydro, solar, and thermal energy.

Nuclear energy's effects on the environment, animals, and people around the plants is not fully understood and the process of mining the uranium to fuel the plants releases carbon dioxide. The process of disposing of nuclear waste, which currently consists of burying it in appropriate capsules in deserted areas deep underground has it's issues too. What if the waste manages to leak from the capsules?

Also, nuclear plants are very good targets for malicious acts like terrorism. While coal and fossil fuel plants can cause huge explosions as well, only nuclear plants can leave an entire swathe of land uninhabitable (at least for a extended period) like in Chernobyl, Ukraine or Ōkuma, Japan.

I like it and I think it's the future but I hope that that Thorium-232 will replace Uranium-238 as the main fertile and fissionable fuel.
I do prefer other types of sustainable energy such as hydropower or thermal energy, because nuclear energy can cause much bigger natural disasters than the rest and I live in Iceland where there are a lot of options for renewable energy sources.

Cadenzana wrote:Also, I've got a question. How do y'all feel about nuclear energy?

I'm not a great fan of nuclear energy because it can be very dangerous considering what happened in Chernobyl in 1986 and in Fukushima in 2011. It can cause serious consequences on health if something bad happens. And we also don't know what to do with radioactive waste. It takes several thousands of years to be eliminated. I think using nuclear energy is hiding from the serious consequences that it could have on the future of our planet. Actually, it's quite ironic to think like I think because as a French citizen a great majority of the energy produced in France is based on nuclear energy. But I don't think it's better than fossil fuels because I think it can cause worse consequences than these ones. Actually, I think that most of the people think fossil fuels are worse because it causes bad consequences right now on our planet and on our health but I think of the future and of our (potential) children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, ... So, yeah, I have a negative point of view on nuclear energy and I would really prefer to use only renewable energy.

Renewables can also be pretty destructive to the environment. Flooding huge areas for hydroelectric dams and the consequent methyl mercury, mining for rare metals and elements for solar panels, etc.

Ironically, coal-fired plants release more radioactive emissions than nuclear plants.

Hello, is there any way to have leftist state without having a terrible economy? I feel that every issue is forcing me to make the choice between something unethical or damaging my economy.

Yes. Just wait and do issues. Economy is the one stat that always goes up unless you're trying to actively bomb it.

The easiest way for me, personally, would be to go full on cringe unethical capitalist, then fix everything upon reaching >97 on economy, but I’ve been trying out different ways on different puppet nations, and I think it’s going okay.

So first, Economic Freedom is quite the important stat, and it helps define your WA classification, as shown by this wonderful dispatch by Refuge Isle, Refugia’s founder! Anyway, the higher the economic freedom, the better the economy. Socialist nations get -100 economic freedom, but this doesn’t really affect your other stats. Therefore, capitalist nations with a 25 economic freedom would be the same as socialist nations with a -75 economic freedom. Do note however that going too high would severely hurt your economy, which is why the default Libertarian setup as a higher economy than the default Anarchy setup that NS has, I believe. This info is most accurate for newer nations, and will slowly become less accurate along the way.

The other important stat would be Business Subsidization. Initially, I focused on Business Subsidization to increase eco-friendliness while keeping a good economy, but it seems to work for socialist nations that want a high economy too. Basically, choose every option that promises to fund an industry, and also tanked my Freedom from Taxation Disposable Income stats.

In the long run, you should remember to favor Business Subsidization over Economic Freedom, since that’s what tends to helps better as a socialist nation.

Like Van said above, time will fix it. You can see that my nation (along with a lot of the older ones here) have economies as strong as any capitalist nations. It just takes a while.
