Cybus1 wrote:Which name do you think sounds best for a pre-Alex dynasty of Cybusian emperors? I’m thinking pre-Rebelllion Alex created Arcadia (which I may want to rename? Ideas?) and the Evolved and then left for several centuries (or longer) to continue cavorting with Elizabeth Green. Arcadian culture would develop in the meantime (noble titles, communal palaces, keftas, Mercerist customs, etc).
The last emperor would be consumed by Alex upon his return as a “reward” for loyal service and he would rule until the Rebellion and his death (and then his rebirth and re-assumption of the throne). The emperor family would be badly hurt by the Rebellion, but they’d ultimately end up surviving, at least in part.
The emperor’s descendants would ultimately survive into the present day as extremely prominent nobles. Perhaps running a prominent corporation? Or maybe something else?

A few names I’ve considered;
Yuvchenko
Rakovsky
Cherkovsky
Tereshkova

Thoughts?

1) Regarding Arcadia, I feel like a name change wouldn't be necessary, though I wouldn't be against it if that is what you want to do.

2) When it comes down to the descendants of the royal Dynasty from before Alex's reign, I'm not entirely sure what would be the best course of action for you to take with them. Perhaps some have gone off to create their own family business while others moved on to become authors or artists of some kind?...I feel like it would be interesting if there was a member of the family that decided to distance themselves from the family name after Alex's rise to power, living their lives out as a normal citizen and thus tending to be left out of family affairs or forgotten about. Maybe something could come from that?

3) Name suggestions are perhaps the most difficult part. Realistically speaking, most Cybusians that have never been associated with Earth would not have names based on those from the Terran languages, but we don't really have to worry about that here. When it comes down to coming up with an original name for you to use, that is where things get a bit complicated since everyone tends to have trouble in this department (at least for a time)...Anyway, the best I can come up with is Eldric, which is clumsily taken from "Eldritch" since I know you are a fan of Lovecraft. Even though I am not sure if it makes for a good Family Name, it definitely seems to be a bit fitting for your nation.

Novo Wagondia wrote:I like the idea! I've always admired Orson's various dynasties, and I would love to see something similar in the Cybusian Empire. I might go with a slightly more ancient-sounding name, maybe something loosely inspired by Egyptian or Mesopotamian. It's likely that the Cybusian language would have been fairly different so long ago not unlike Shakespeare's English, and perhaps with fewer influences from Russia and Germany. Maybe it's just me, but I've always associated Central and Eastern European surnames with Cybusian industry and innovation (Kosarek, Koenig, Eichhorst, etc), so taking it in a different direction might just as well symbolize tradition, orthodoxy, and faith.

Just a couple that I've found from name generators online:

House of Marsippar
House of Ayartetu
House of Irrar
House of Gades
House of Rusucurru
House of Hasdrubal

Thanks y'all! I appreciate your feedback.
The more ancient name could be an interesting thing to consider! That being said, some of the oldest noble families do have some Eastern Europeanish names (the Vostrovs, Sokolovs), and many have English names (Waites, Hartman’s, Cawl’s). Abrasax sounds kind of exotic
I like your proposal with some wanting nothing to do with the family Fel!
Eldric is an interesting name idea! You have a point with the lack of familiarity with Terran languages, but I don’t particularly want to create a brand new language.

Hello everybody, I'd like to announce a major land deal I've brokered between Orson and Cybus, regarding the establishment of a Cybusian Empire in Africa. In exchange for the NNF territories of Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan, Orson has ceded Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi (former German East Africa) to Cybus. The Cybusian state will also take possession of the NNF territory of Namibia (also a former German colony). I hope this will bring a renewed dimension of roleplay to the African continent, and also help Cybus along on his project to recreate some semblance of the German overseas empire. As always, my thanks goes out to both Cybus and Orson for their cooperation.

I sincerely appreciate both the effort you put into this and Orson’s agreeableness. I really appreciate this! I intend to develop a network of mines, ports, and tourist destinations, among other things, all throughout Cybusian (and German) Africa. I’ll be working to move these territories into the Imperial canon.
Expect lots of D’Anconia mines, especially in Namibia, since there’s a direct border with the Wagain Empire. And several airship ports, cruise liner ports, and more.

I imagine the tensions between our nation will be even more intense, as the Cybusian Empire now shares a direct land border with Orson. Our strict border policy actually makes more sense now.

Recently, I've been watching videos and reading about the old concept of a filibuster (not the US Senate term), where someone engages in an unauthorized expedition into a foreign nation to try and start a revolution. Private citizens from the US did this frequently throughout Latin America in the 19th century. I could easily see such filibusters being sponsored in Orson, with the goal of "liberating" Namibia and Tanzania from Cybusian oppression, much like past calls for German independence.

Cybus1 wrote:Excellent work Orson! Very detailed, covering centuries, but also offering a tour of the city. Fantastic work!

Novo Wagondia wrote:I have to echo Cybus; reading this overview has really been a treat. I get the sense that much of Orsonian history has been mirrored in the growth of Aturo City, from its role in industrialization and the Orsonian renaissance to the more recent Aturoist ideology. Obviously an empire as extensive as the Orsonian realm would have substantial regional variation, and it's fascinating to see how each of those regions has impacted the broader discourse on what it means to be Orsonian.

Glad y'all enjoyed it! Indeed, Aturo's history explains the state of the modern Orson Empire very well. Many Orsonians actually consider the Empire to be ruled by a "New Guinean dictatorship" due to the territory's enormous influence.

Ah yes, filibusters. They are an interesting bunch! I particularly find William Walker interesting.
I can see that happening as well, but maybe in the opposite direction, with Cybusians attempting to inspire rebellion against Turners regime.
Of course, we’d militarize the border and keep a fairly large ground force there; our superior technology would give us a huge edge in combat against filibusters or if Turner or a particularly suicidal warlord during one of the civil wars decided to attack us. Torchwood would have a fairly high presence to identify and either monitor or eliminate Inquisition or MOSS agents attempting to infiltrate the area.

Turner has no qualms with the Cybusians and does not buy into the conspiracy theories, but there are of course many extremists who do. There would be numerous militants over the years trying to cause problems in those regions, but easily defeated by advanced Cybusian technology.

Would the Federalists and Unified Front be allowed to station forces in Cybusian territory? It could be a major factor in the Third Civil War's success.

The mention of filibusters reminds me of an Idea I had to create a mad scientist that would try to boot the Cybusians off the planet with plans that sound like something one would only think of in the context of a supervillain trying to conquer the world.

Would need to come up with a sufficiently elaborate plan that would be worthy of sending torchwood agents on a "Stop the Supervillain" kind of mission though. Definitely will keep you updated if one comes to mind.

Reminds me of the old Ocearan Emperor and his antics. There would definitely be Orsonians willing to cooperate with them if interested.

After speaking with Oceara, I've also made the decision to cede the NNF territory of Cabo Verde to the West Africa Confederation, given its geographic and cultural connection to the rest of the region.

Hmm. That depends on if Alex can be won over -a difficult prospect, but potentially doable- and made to overlook the Torchwood goal of keeping Orson at war to avoid space colonization. If he can be made to see the benefits, he may agree to let them station forces there (and thus override any objections by anyone and everyone below him in the chain of command).
That would require a representative traveling to Arcadia though. An actual official like Mary Dara would be able to gain an audience with Alex of the request was framed urgently enough, but I think she’s dead by this point in addition to being pro-Empire and a Pipeline theorist.
However, if they were successful, it might lead to a slight “thaw” in relations between Cybusians and Orsonians.

Yeah, that’s the kind of thing that would have Forge staring at his desk, confused by what’s in the report he just read.
The Empire does have its share of mad scientists though, so it may be somewhat less surprising.

Travelling from the Fazenda Montenegro into Santa Catalina, Jerick Pallas has approached UCP Representative Henry Whaite in his office there to ask a favor. He apologizes for arriving with no notice, but could not risk sending a message and having it be intercepted by Orsonian agents; Pallas knows that Whaite's office is likely protected from espionage by Torchwood. Additionally, the Paramount Committee and the Unified Front leadership would almost certainly oppose his intentions for the meeting and move to block it entirely, so Pallas is having to do this in secrecy. Pallas is asking Whaite for a possible audience with Emperor Mercer to discuss stationing elements of the Blue Army and UF paramilitaries in Tanzania, Namibia, Burundi, and Rwanda. A second revolution is being planned against Orson, and the revolutionaries would need areas where they could mobilize, rearm and resupply without the threat of Imperial interference. Seeing as relations between the Cybusian and Orsonian governments are bitter, it would be in the interests of the Cybusians to support a regime change. Finally, Pallas wants to garner the support of Evolved and Cybusian-Orsonians to launch a filibuster of their own against the Orsonian government. Pallas considers Whaite a friend and ally of the movement, and thus trusts him with this information.

Indeed, Cabo Verde is a core Territory of Mali in my new canon. Having been conquered in the Malian-Iberian War of 1588-1603(which would be before the Mali Empire's coastal control started to dwindle in the EoA timeline) and is a critical component in the conditions required to enable the Mali Confederation to form in 1800 from it's economic, political, military, and diplomatic value to the Malians.

In WW1 it would be an important site of Naval battles as the Archipelago being in the hands of the Imperial Mali Confederation allowed Central powers subs to have higher efficiency in spotting Wagain shipping during the war when searching for targets due to the constricting effect on the shipping lanes from the state of war between the Central Powers and the Entente. These naval engagements are likely to be the only battles between Malian and Wagain forces in the war, and post-war as part of the Malians' treaty with the Entente Cabo Verde will be put under Entente Occupation with the control of the Occupation belonging to Wagondia.

Throughout the Interwar period the West African government would seek to align with the Allies and secure the ending of the Occupation.

(This is a brief rundown, I'll post a more in depth examination of the history of the area and it's importance to the history of the country)

Ambassador Whaite is pleased to hear of this. He has always been a supporter of the Federalists, and more generally for reform in Orson but recognizes that sometimes violence is necessary. He has agreed to the idea, but he has no authority over any kind of internal affairs. He will request an audience with the Emperor, recognizing that time is of the essence. He’s also very aware that this could help improve relations between the Empire and the Orsonians, if the revolution is successful. He will be in touch with further developments.

A few days later (it would take some time for the issue to be debated, approval granted, etc);
Henry has contacted Pallas and informed him that the Emperor has agreed to an audience, if Whaite will accompany him. The two will be meeting the Emperor himself, with no one else present aside from his personal guards. A shuttle can be dispatched to collect the two on any date which Pallas can find to get away from his fellow revolutionaries without arousing suspicion.

(Optional) Please give a short one-paragraph statement, outlining your nation's case for hosting the Olympics, and how the games will affect your city's long-term vision for the future:

I've been meaning to get this done, but have been busy going out with family lately. I'll be skipping over the optional statement at the end, but in short: Hosting the Summer Olympics would help Kaohsiung in their efforts to gain more tourists in the future (as evident by their redevelopment starting around 2020), with the city government hoping to use the games as a means of showing foreign nationals how beautiful and amazing the city is (outside of the industrial parts of it)...or something along those lines anyway.

He would take a pre-prepared suitcase with some necessities and leave the Fazenda, heading to wherever the shuttle would pick the two up.

Oceara wrote:With little other hope of getting the attention of the higher ups in the Empire before it's too late, Prime Minister Sangare would grasp his head. Quickly he would receive another call by the Chief of the Navy, notifying him that the Imperial Destroyer claims non-responsibility and confusion regarding the explosion of the trawler.. But that the Imperial Navy is mobilizing for a possible battle. Willing to try anything to avoid a battle, Sangare would speak up "Get me a direct line to Patrol 2." "are you sure it's best for you to be issuing direct orders instead of your trained staff?" would reply the Chief of the Navy to which Sangare lacking patience would snap back with "Just do it!"

The Captain of the Carrier would be awaiting further orders from the Mainland as the Phone rings, he would answer expecting the higher ups in the navy "Orders?" -- Out of the phone would come out the Voice of Prime Minister Sangare much to the Captain's shock. "Halt all of your ships immediately and hail the Destroyer again and put the phone to the radio." Stunned the captain would shout out orders for maximum possible deceleration of all ships and would order for the radio operator to establish radio contact with the Tardan as he brings the phone over to the radio.

"Captain Angar of the Tardan. This is Prime Minister Oumar Sangare, I have been unable to contact Prime Minister Vania and Emperor Thorseus refuses to negotiate. It is clear that the military apparatuses are moving too quickly for a slower method of diplomacy such as by the Ambassador or the UCP Representative. I am intervening to implore you to relay our concerns for the situation and our desire to establish contact with Prime Minister Vania as quickly as possible to your superiors up the chain of Command, I have issued an order for this carrier patrol to come to a halt as quickly as technologically feasible. The longer the other Imperial ships spend converging the higher the risk of miscommunication leading to weapons fire before we can get time to figure out what the hell is going on here."

News in the confederation would start covering the explosion, although they have not speculated yet on it's nature and have added the detail that a number of Confederate military units have entered into a Heightened State of Alert.

Aboard the Tardan, Captain Angar and his subordinates would be stunned to hear the voice of Prime Minister Sangare over the radio. Apparently, the civilian government was so incompetent that the Malian PM was forced to hail a destroyer in a desperate attempt to establish some line of communication. As it became clear that the carrier patrol came to a stop, Tardan ordered the crew to stand down and replied to the Malians.

"This is Captain Angar of the destroyer Tardan. We have received your message and are working to establish a dialogue with Imperial High Command at this point."

At this point, the Office of Military Intelligence was listening in on the conversation, and it had worked its way up the chain of command. In Tara, a secretary frantically pulled Prime Minister Andrianaivo out of her meeting and presented her with a sattelite phone, with a connection to Sangere finally established.
