Polska lietuva

First established as an eastern vassal of the German Empire during the First World War, the Kingdom of Poland was the first polish nation for a hundred years. In it's premature state, it was led by three key men, Cardinal Aleksander Kakowski, Prince Zdzisław Lubomirski, and Baron Józef Ostrowski, who formed the Regency Council, which stood in place of the vacant polish throne. As the war ended with the collapse of the Central Powers, Poland now stood free of foreign interference, and began the process of rebuilding the nation. During this time, the Regency Council came under the domination of one man, Field Marshal Józef Piłsudski. The Constitution of 1919 saw absolute power being given to the sovereign, or in the case of a vacant throne, the regent. Piłsudski ruled Poland as a military dictatorship, appointing himself as the sole regent in 1921, and removing many powers from the elected national assembly, the Sejm. The Sejm attempted many times to appoint a King for Poland, but each candidate was vetoed by Piłsudski.

At the same time, Lithuania was enjoying it's independence from Russia, being ruled by a nationalist republican government led by Antanas Smetona. Smetona was unwilling to cooperate with Poland, fearing Lithuania's sovereignty to their much stronger southern neighbor, and remembering the days of the Commonwealth, where Lithuania were subject to Poland's dominance. However, Piłsudski was able to secure the support of many Lithuanian generals, who overthrew Smetona in a coup in 1926, supported by Poland. Lithuania soon became nothing more than a puppet of it's southern neighbour.

Between 1922 and 1929, a civil war raged on in neighboring Germany. At first, Piłsudski was unwilling to cooperate with either side, seeing both as the enemy of the Polish nation. However, nearer the end Poland became more and more closer to Prussia, eventually providing aid for them during the last few months of the war.

By 1930, Piłsudski's health was worsening, and became less and less able to carry out his duties as regent. The Sejm voted to label him as 'incapable to rule', and forced him to resign as regent. Subsequently, the position of Regent was abolished, with the Sejm taking up it's powers. The assembly were quick to begin the process of appointing a King for Poland. The German King of Saxony, Georg II, of the House of Wettin, a dynasty that had previously ruled Poland during the days of the Commonwealth, was proposed, and approved, and took the throne of Poland as Mieczysław I. A confirmatory referendum held the next year showed that 58% of the population approved the choice of King.

In Lithuania, the Seimas (the National Assembly), on the advice of many members of the Sejm, voted to abolish the Republic, and replace it with a monarchy system in the form of a Grand Duchy, proclaiming the new King of Poland Mieczysław I as Grand Duke Mečislovas I of Lithuania. This radical turn of events saw the restoration of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth, the two lands being integrated into a dual monarchy in the Constitution of 1932. This constitution also saw the role of the King reduced from what was set out in the 1919 Constitution, giving many powers to the Sejm and Seimas and establishing the office of a new Head of Government, the Chancellor. It also saw the creation of the Senate, a unified upper house of both realms, incorporating delegates from both Poland and Lithuania, while their respective lower houses remained separate.

King Mieczysław was an avid anti Nazi, who supported the ideas of monarchy and aristocracy, but also believed in religious equality, and particularly was disgusted by the West German's anti semite policies. These, besides him being of course a German, saw the Commonwealth enter a deep friendship with Prussia, a friendship which would not ware off to this day. The King allowed many German businesses into the country, allowed German troops to be stationed within it, and helped to fund Prussia's rebuilding after the Civil War.

Through the rest of the 1930s and 1940s, the Commonwealth built up it's industry and armed forces, and made many reforms to it's government as well. Poland-Lithuania enters the 1950s in a good state, although many see it as nothing more than a puppet of it's Western neighbor, it has in it's own right made itself great. Let us discover what the Commonwealth can achieve in this next decade...

My friends, the Right Wing Coalition was raided, but I have driven them off, and due to ShrewLlamaLand's extremely well-timed Telegram, I removed all WA powers, and I am in the process of cleaning the filthy raiders up. Also, please show your support for the RWC, and vote on the poll on the region page.

The Embassy

Hi,

We've made a decision to close embassies with regions tagged as fascist.

Most people associate fascism with the horrors that occurred in the mid-twentieth century. You may have an eloquent argument that refutes this association, or that the brand of fascism you subscribe to is different. Nevertheless, rightly or wrongly, this perception is maintained by the majority, and the tag is seen as a symbol of hate.

By extension, by having embassies with your region, we are seen as endorsing hateful ideology. I'm sure you can understand that this is not the impression that we wish to give the wider world.

We will instruct the closure of our embassy shortly. Should you decide at any point in the future to remove this tag, we will be happy to consider re-opening embassies.

I'd like to thank you for having had an embassy with us.

Regards,

The Receptionist

Thanks for letting me know. That's the problem with tags. They can be interpreted in different ways. It makes perfect sense from a roleplay point of view to tag a WW2 roleplay with a fascist tag. Sadly it gets confused with out-of-character political beliefs, and so can attract the wrong kind of attention.

There are a few other role-play regions out there with the same tag. Can I ask what benefit you have had from the tag? Has it attracted other roleplayers? It would be good to understand better how this affects people.

Thanks

I'd be delighted to keep the embassy, but it would be on condition you removed the fascist tag. The tag is just a cosmetic issue that is causing some others to have a negative perception of my region and what we do. I'm not trying to strong-arm you into anything. It's entirely your choice, and should you choose to keep the tag and lose the embassy, you are always welcome to telegram me with any questions etc.

NO NOT THIS REGION PLS STAY WE CAN WORK SOMETHING OUT
